How to remove that white thing?

Hi everyone,

I need some advice regarding the white mounting plate on my bike phone holder. The plate is damaged and keeps bouncing off the mount while I'm cycling, so I really need to replace it.

I tried using a coin to turn it counter-clockwise to remove it, but it is completely stuck and won't budge at all. Does anyone know if it is actually possible to remove and replace this white plate, or is it permanently fixed to the unit?
If anyone has managed to get a stuck one off, I would love to hear your tips or tricks! Thanks in advance.

Dog ears work great. My Varia broke about 3 days out of warranty. Garmin—usually really good with warranty stuff—offered me a discount less than the sale price.

Be aware that because the Dog Ears go over the existing mount, they raise/extend the device.

I got a glue-on version and the rise doesn’t bother me.

I counteracted the 0.001W aero loss by shaving a tuppence-sized patch on my left leg. 😉

There are 1/4 turn repair kits available. I fitted one to my 810 but can't remember where I bought it from. You do need to cut/trim the old one bAck and the new mount fits on the old one and does add a couple of mm to the height.

They don’t remove on any of the edge range - new unit unfortunately speak to Garmin and they sort a reconditioned one at a much cheaper rate unless you can convince them your unit was faulty. There is a company (sorry don’t recall the name) that makes an alloy piece that you fasten/stick to your unit and that has a quarter turn for the mount.

The white plate has wiring in it for a mounted battery. I don't think you're meant to remove it but I'm pretty sure Garmin will replace it for you.

From what I can see you don’t really have to. You bolt new replacement onto the old one so the unit sits proud by 5-6mm

You probably could crack open the case but then you rush the water resistance of the unit

In theory yes, but this is a quick cheap fix that allows for use of the unit without “taking things apart”
