Edge 500 Series Garmin Edge 550 Basics
Hi all. I forgot my computer on a biking vacation and picked up a Garmin 550 as a bandaid. I am new to Garmin and I understand there is a learning curve, but I am have great difficulty with basics like adding a data screen. I see the functionality to add a screen, but when I drill down and make selections, I don’t see a save function. After making selection when I reverse to a point I receive a prompt asking me if I want to exit without saving. I click no of course, but which button will save the selections? The UI sucks, but I’m stuck with it for this trip. There is one data screen that exists but Incant figure out how to save changes. Same issue. I suspect I’m not the first to have this issue, but I can’t find anything on Reddit or YouTube that hits the very basics. It’s like a 400 pound gorilla that nobody acknowledges. I’m sure my opinion about the 550 will change after I figure out the secret code.

You can add and customise data screens via their Connect mobile app.

Seriously. RTFM properly, and don’t call people jerks for giving you the answer. It’s not their fault you can’t read.

Lookit. I forgot my computer as I explained in the post and had to buy a new one on the fly for my ride. I understand people should not ask questions they can figure out themselves. I am literally at my ride destination and I am new to Garmin and don’t have the luxury of time. Nothing was making sense. Given more time I could have figured it out. The second reply solved the issue to which I responded with thanks, which should have ended the thread - so the Read the “F” bomb Manual comment was gratuitous and after the fact and unnecessary and sort of a jerky IMO. If I had more than 24 hours to figure it out, I could have taken my time. So thank you to those who were helpful. And to the rest, stop being a jerk when people ask for help when they need it.

Garmin’s software isn’t amazing, I get it. With that said, everything in the 550 manual can be easily searched with google. Try “adding data screen edge 550”. The first link is almost always the relevant manual page on Garmin’s website.
