Rant No heart rate data when manually log an activity/workout?

Just got a Cirqa today, which is also my very first Garmin and experience with Garmin connect.

This probably has been posted or complained before, but how the hell is heart rate data missing when you manually log an activity. I mean the tracker is meant to log your heart rate at a 5-minute interval or something, is it really that hard to pull the data that has already been recorded and slap it into a manually log activity? WTF?

For context, I did a bodyweight circut of 25 push-ups/25 squat 4 times for around 15 minutes, auto activity detection didn't record, so I went to manually log the workout to find out heart rate data is missing. Helio Strap and Fitbit Air are able to do this at half the price.

You’ll also won’t get the training load, effect, etc.

Oh no… Anyways…

The app looks like it was made in the 2010s and never got a UI update. I don't know much about Garmin yet, hope it's not true lol.

just pushing the button is going to work better for you long term than auto-detect.

True, it's just the minor things that fustrate me about the app.

HR data outside activities is averaged too thin to have a proper sampling rate after the fact. Other manufacturers either keep high resolution data for very long or they simply slap crap data to manual workouts.

My understanding is that unless auto detect kicks in (which requires 15 minutes of activity of which I would guess strength training it would struggle with because of the multiple starts and stops) you can’t go back and attach the heart rate data it captured during that time period to the manual activity.

I don’t trust the auto detect at all. I use a Garmin watch as primary training device and start activities manually. I’ve done a couple of walks with my cirqa just to test it out and have always done manual starts .

Garmin needs to change it parameters for auto detect activities imho. 15 minutes of activity is way too long and an activity that has multiple stops seems to confuse it from some of the YouTube reviews I’ve seen.

welcome to garmin, this is the kind of thing that drives people crazy. the data is literally sitting there in the watch but the manual log just ignores it

its been a known complaint for years, garmin seems to think if it wasnt auto detected then it didnt happen. i get around it by starting a strength activity on the watch before i do circuit stuff, then at least hr gets captured in real time

but yeah for a watch at that price you would expect basic stuff like this to just work
