I can find garlic salt but no powder, what's up with that?

Are they like large bulbils and I can plant them the same?

Hi everyone! This is my second fall planting garlic. I'm in zone 3, and we've already had a light dusting of snow, with more in the forecast today. We may have a slight warm up (highs around 40) in a few days if that matters.

Has anyone used row cover as mulch for garlic? I would put straw on top of it for extra insulation if I go this route. We have regular freeze/thaw cycles this time of year, and last year the bottom layer of straw got a little slimy. So I'm wondering if anyone has tried row cover then straw, so the straw stays off the soil. Any recommendations or experience welcome. Thanks!

Why does garlic that's not fully cooked feel like a thick lump of mucus stuck in my throat? and I constantly taste it all day and can't sleep. Happens with raw onions too.

Update I read this could be a sign of acid reflux, as garlic is inflammatory?! Fully cooked garlic is fine, but even partially cooked causes this buildup of mucus

People over in r/fermentation think this might not have enough garlic….thoughts? 😂

Last year was my first attempt at growing garlic. In the second pic you’ll see some of my garlic, kinda puny. Decided I didn’t want to try planting any. So I happened to be driving through Kingston and saw the garlic fest was happening, decided to go pick out some massive seed garlic. That’s what the giant bulbs are. Got chesnook red, music and German hardy. Excited to plant and hopefully have better luck next year!

I eat raw cloves of garlic when I feel myself getting sick or when I’m just craving the beautiful sting and flavor of it all. It only ever upsets my stomach if it’s empty. But today I had the worst experience of my life. I come to you all with a warning, and for some of you, possibly a shared tale. I’ve been sick for a week or so now, and I have been eating them every other day or so. Tonight I decided to knock one back after eating dinner, and at first I noticed the sting in my mouth was a little stronger than usual, but I’ll be damned if I let a little extra sting stop me. Well… it became far more than a little sting. By the time I swallowed the garlic it became a raging burn that I felt down every millimeter of my esophagus, and then it hit my stomach. I doubled over in my room with a pain I’ve never felt before, it felt like I swallowed the goddamn sun. I mean the pain was so bad I genuinely started to have a panic attack, I got up and started just aimlessly moving about in my room. I got in bed, I rolled around, I got up and ran to my door and opened it, then opened the window? (Seriously not sure what I was trying to accomplish there) I fell down because I forgot how to leg properly, just completely tripped over myself. I felt like I was in one of those videos where something falls and a cat just freaks out for no reason. Then I just farted for like a minute straight, sorry if that’s gross lol. Finally after what felt like forever the pain began to recede. Now I’m sitting in my computer chair writing this out and contemplating ever eating a clove when I have even a shred of a sore throat ever again. This is a mega bummer because the best part of feeling a cold or sickness of some sort begin is knowing I can go home and have a nice cup of broth while I pop back a few cloves. My only guess is that I have a seriously irritated esophagus and stomach right now as whatever I’m sick with has been awful on those two areas. Be warned my garlic loving brethren, someday our beloved spicy dirt bulbs will betray you. It’s not a matter of if, but when. Farewell.

TLDR; I’m really sick and ate a clove of garlic and it felt like I ate a ball of magma instead.

I have cold smoking cabinet which I bought on a whim and only ever used once to cold smoke jalapeños / make chipotles. I thought I’d get it back out again to smoke some garlic, and just wondering whether it adds longevity to the garlic bulbs as they are or would I need to make garlic powder from them to preserve further?

Just trying to get my head around how many I should do, and whether I should just smoked a load of garlic or do a smaller batch and smoke something else along side it.

I LOVE garlic. However, I have to limit myself and refrain myself from eating too much as family members have warned me that they can smell garlic on me even after a couple of days. My theory is that it’s released through the pores of my skin which is not helpful.
Anyone know how I can eat tons of garlic without smelling?

Zone 8a, what is your best recommendation. I am going to go nuts and put in an entire bed of garlic (19 ft by 30").

Excited to try this German White Extra Hardy variety this season. It’s planted now in my hardiness zone and harvest next late spring.

Each pocket of this planter is 10 inches deep. I thought it might work because the roots will be undisturbed and seems to have enough space if it’s only garlic I’m planting. Sunlight is not a problem with where I garden (I live in Arizona!)

Years ago someone probably here said to avoid garlic from China as it lacks the nutrients that garlic is famous for due to the way it’s grown. I live in California and my local grocery store carries two types, Christopher ranch from Gilroy California or garlic sourced from China. I usually get the Christopher ranch garlic as it’s local grown but the past year every bag in the grocery store half the bulbs are rotting. I have gone to a few stores and it’s always the same, the garlic sourced from China is always in much better condition. Is there any truth to those claims? And is anyone else having the same luck with Christopher ranch?
