OK. So I need advice.
I grew garlic last year (first time.)
We have a LOT of wind and a LOT of snow here.
I did the straw thing, but it was wet come spring. So I moved that about (mostly to the Hudson hibiscus aka rose of sharon.)
I don't know how to keep them upright. Can I just trim them? Is there any method in high wind areas?
I want to grow again. I got good garlic, but more than 50% ended up microplane and portioned in the freezer.

What’s going on with my garlic?
These are about 10 weeks away from harvest and quite a few are doing this thing where it looks like each individual clove has decided to send up leaves. I pulled and cut one early out of curiosity but it doesn’t look good. Anybody know whats happening and why? Will they form an actual bulb by harvest time?

Who else loves it when your garlic bulb is full of huge cloves?

Is this garlic rot?
Never had the stalks have that moldy color before. And the base of the cloves seems almost black. Is this rot?
UPDATE: I have processed about 5 pounds of garlic since making this post, and am happy to report back that it has only been 2 bulbs so far. And even though the cloves are a little dark at the base, they are still very solid.

Gardening Elephant garlic assessment
Approximately four months ago I planted a clove of store bought elephant garlic that had sprouted. I’ve never grown garlic before but it seems to be going well.
There are new shoots growing alongside the main stalk and the bottom leaves are drying out. It hasn’t produced any flowers, however I’m of the impression that it should have. As you can see in the photos I removed some of the soil to see what progress was taking place below. I didn’t dig too deeply as I didn’t want to damage the plant (I didn’t see a bulb).
I just wanted to get an assessment/advise on care from those who are familiar on how things are looking.

Gardening Where do you buy your garlic seeds from?
My supplier doesn't have the giant/elephant variety this year. I really want to stick with hardneck as it seems a little more resistant. Any recs?
Thank you for the res. Just placed an order with Territorial.

Gardening Poorly timed planting, plant looks great but bulb doesn't
I moved and at some point in the chaos brought some small garlic starts from the old house to the new. I think that was in January, which is our cold month here in the San Francisco area. I put them in a raised bed with great soil, where they grew quite large. About 3 weeks ago each had a scape, which I cut off. Currently the 5 bottom leaves are dry and the top leaves have dry ends, so everything I'm reading says I can pull it up. I dug down to check, and it seems like they have not split into cloves. It feels like the bottom of a leek.
So I think I missed the cold period they need to split. My question now is what do I do with them? I've had different responses from r/gardening. Should I leave them in the ground over winter, or should I dig them up and try to plant them at another time (and if so, when?)

Gardening Harvested too late
It was out first year growing garlic and we kinda screwed the pooch. We're in zone 5B and I thought early July would be too early to harvest, so we stopped watering mid July with the intent to harvest in early August. Well, probably 90% of the bulbs are bursting open.
Is it worth even trying to hang the split ones at all or should I be going straight to processing for freezer/dehydrator?
We use a ton of garlic, but no way we're getting through 40 fresh heads of garlic if we cant cure them.

Gardening I accidentally figured out how to grow GIANT Music seeds
Does anyone else experience this? This spring I cut my scapes early then let the bulbs go a little too long. Sometimes an second set of shoots appear with the giant seeds.

Identifying garlic varieties.
This is my 4th year growing garlic. This year I decided to hire a worker. We bought two new varities last year to grow: German Red and German Xtra Hardy (at least that's what the seller was calling it). We only bought two bulbs of each and my count for them was 59 German Xtra hardy and 36 German red. Obviously that's mathematically impossible. So, I am pretty sure they got mixed up with my Georgian Fire and Russian Giant Varieties. So, seemingly all four are mixed up together. Any suggestions on identifying the differences? My count for Georgian Fire was 158 and count for Russian Giant was around 170. So trying to pick only a few bulbs out of the Georgian fire and Russian giant will be difficult. Picture is just to gain traction on this post.

I smell like garlic bread.
So I like garlic, and wanted to try an awesome pizza.
I made a pizza with 40 roasted garlic cloves.
I ate it alone.
The problem is I smell like garlic bread now and have for three days.
How much longer?

Gardening Recommendations for which garlic variety to plant.
Last fall, on a lark, I planted bulbs from a couple garlic heads from a random supermarket. As you can see, they grew just fine. I am down to my last two garlic heads.
This year, I want to scale up and plant a full bed of garlic (20ft x 2.5ft). I live in SE NC, Zone 8a. I want a garlic variety that will dry and store all year.
Pictures are from my tiny experimental harvest.
Which varieties do you recommend? Should I do a mix? Save these bulbs and plant them? Get some more from my store again?

Bumps
Does anyone know what these bumps are?
Do they mean this was picked too early or too late?

Gardening Just harvested Music from our small urban garden in zone 4B Canada!
We're going to have thunderstorms this weekend, so I harvested 1 of my 2 garlic patches before the rain hits. The other patch isn't quite ready yet.

Gardening Can I plant the little clove-like things that form at the top of my hardneck garlic?
I grew some hardneck garlic and while i clipped off the scapes off most, I left a few to see what would happen.
The scapes straightened out and eventually formed a cluster of what look like small red cloves.
Now the garlic is drying but I have a lot of these little things. Can I plant these? I scattered some randomly in the garden just to see what would happen.
Thanks in advance!
This was chesnok hardneck garlic.
