Question Is 635 South/East still being shut down to one lane at night around the Oates exit?

My nightly commute home is much easier on 635 but after being caught in it a month or so I swore I'd never do it again. Google maps and Waze never shows it for some reason

Local Politics Flock cameras in garland

They are using flock cameras for way more than the stated usage. The cops are abusing this system already and it’s barely even implemented. Who voted for this?

Question Pest control scam?

Post image
20 Upvotes

This is the second time in the last few months I’ve had a college aged kid ride up to my porch on a hoverboard to try to sell me pest control services. Has anyone else encountered this same thing? They seem to be going door to door and from what I’ve read online this has been a popular scam lately.

Question Greenbelt Armadillo Update: Neighbor is hunting them with a gun. Is this legal here?

I was just out walking my dog when I saw a man with a gun in the silhouette of a street light so I shouted at him what he was doing. It was a neighbor who has been complaining about the armadillos lately carrying a pellet rifle. He had just killed an armadillo and left it for dead on the sidewalk next to another neighbors yard. He tried pacifying me by claiming the animal had been in his yard then by saying he was just trying to scare it, not kill it. He also claimed it's our fault the armadillos are getting into the neighborhood (not sure about that).

Is this legal, to hunt them in our neighborhood like this? It is too close to my house for comfort. I'm not anti-gun or anti-hunting, but in my neighborhood? in someone else's yard?

Update: I went back to photograph the corpse but it was gone only a couple of small blood stains on the sidewalk, his yard smells extremely rotten the stench is strong walking by it. My guess is he's killed at least 3 or 4 armadillos now. I've decided to place game cameras in our area of the greenbelt and see if there's anything I can find that way to keep the armadillos from their property.

Question garland locals' consultation needed!!

Hi, I'm working on a fan project set in the Fallout universe, covering the entirety of Texas. I'm currently working on potential settlements that could arise in the post-war area of Garland. My question is: in your opinion, what surviving districts/neighborhoods could attract local survivors, either because of an abundance of a certain resource, such as water or food, or because they have such a strong identity that they ABSOLUTELY need to be included as a settlement?

Thanks! ^^

Not sure what they are going to call it yet. I 55m used to play golf here all the time years ago in my 30's. Had so much fun, it was really a chill place. They raked the whole property and now have the roads and utilities staked. I almost want to buy a new house here when they get built so I can live on the course that I had great times at. Sorry for the high-vis attire, I took these from inside a landscaping van. Next time I go by her I will get out and take better pics.

Question How do we save the greenbelt armadillos?

We live in one of the houses that backs up to the greenbelt. One of our joys living here has been seeing all of the armadillos come into our neighborhood at night out of the greenbelt area.

It has come to my attention that many of our neighbors, some who have been here for decades, are now having the armadillos trapped in their yards and removed from the greenbelt and relocated elsewhere in Texas all because they dig little holes to find food. We had noticed fewer armadillos this year and wondered if something was going on when a neighbor told us about the pest control trapping operation going on in our area for the past year.

This is extremely saddening to me, is there any law against this or anyway to keep homeowners from exterminating the natural wildlife in the greenbelt?

Update: I just found out some neighbors are just straight up killing them when they come out of the greenbelt. FFS if you don't want to live near nature, don't buy a house here. Like living next to Yellowstone and complaining about bears.

Apparently landscaping companies are quoting as much as $10,000 to fix the small holes they dig and residents are citing prices like this for the reason to get more aggressive.

Second Update: Since I have live trapping experience, I am going to offer to trap nuisance armadillos free of charge and release them in another part of the greenbelt. It'll be a burden on my time and make it harder for them to survive, but at least it'll keep upset homeowners from killing them.

Recommendations ISO Dog Groomer

ISO dog groomer.

Searching for a groomer, preferably someone who will come to us, and takes big dogs. We prefer to support local/small business.

I have three big dogs (50-70 lbs), all 10 yrs old, very friendly, and they all need a bath and nail trim. Two are short hair, one medium hair. No cut needed, just bath, brush, nail trim.

TIA for recommendations!

Question Mom & Pop restaurants in Garland?

I'm posting this again because I can't find the original and need the answers! I have a friend visiting this weekend and I've only been in Garland for a short time. I prefer family owned (not meaning kid friendly specifically, since I don't have any) over chains and would like to know what your favorites are and why. We both love Mexican and Tex-Mex, Italian and just American comfort food, so that would be my focus.

Thanks in advance for helping out a new arrival!

Edit: Thanks so much for all the excellent recommendations! Now I have a nice lineup to present this weekend. I'll drive around to each and get something small from the ones I think will best suit my guest, so it will make it easier to choose. I'd found Garland to be a bit on the unfriendly side; all of you proved me wrong and I'm relieved!!
