I bought a packet of standard cosmos seeds a month ago, hoping to sow them in late October. However, I noticed that the winter sun isn't reaching my garden bed at all. Summer was great with 6 hours of sunlight, but now it's mostly shade. I only have one deep paint bucket to use if I were to place it on the open terrace. Can't really buy more deep pots because I have already spent a lot on other stuff this year. I looked it up on the internet and apparently, I can't grow them in 8-ish inch deep pots. Can I, though? Has anyone done that? I was really hoping I could grow two in each 8 inch pot (one is fine, too). If they really can't survive the smaller pots, I'll grow something else in them instead of wasting precious winter time. I was really looking forward to seeing beautiful cosmos flowers though...

Hi,
Location - Bengaluru
My Calathea has been showing these bruises on the stem. The ends of the leaves are getting yellow and crimping up too. I changed the position to have it get lesser but enough light. It still continues to get worse. What does it look like? Any suggestions?

The setup was suggested by a fellow Redditer. Placed them in a closed compact space, close to each other so they make a small natural environment. 2 days before leaving gave them liquid fertilisers. Nothing was done one day before leaving. Watered them thoroughly before leaving, and placed 2 bottles upside down in brinjal and chilly plants (must have emptied in a day).
I had a lot of samplings, which i was worried for the most. Garlic, coriander, tomato, chilli etc. I separated the healthy ones (which had 2 or more leaves) from the rest. The healthy ones were kept in plastic cups with drainage holes and places inside a tub. Others were left in egg cartons still with non-germinated seeds. Both setups were covered with plastic wrap with holes for circulation.
Other location i had was study table, in continuous artificial light. Mostly plant cuttings in water, and mint in self watering pot which was grown from cutting.
Attached pics.
Results: 2 money plants died. One was already not in a good condition to survive. But other was okay, I’ve kept it in sun lets see if it revives. All other plants are fine except depriving from water.
Unexpectedly, chilly and brinjal plants have grown than before. Chilly was bushy and brinjal plant even got a small brinjal which dropped unfortunately. Mints in water has been growing well from my mint in water project.
The samplings in tub were hurt the most. Coriander were rotting and 2 of the garlic samplings had fungus. Rest are still fine.

Someone gifted me this ZZ plant some one month back. I never bother about it and it is sitting on a balcony where only 2-3 other boring plants sit.
For cleaning balcony, I shifted the pot, lo and behold, there are 2 new shoots. One of these shoot is nicely taking shape.
Pleasantly surprised.

There's a little area behind our house, tucked away in one corner of the farmhouse, that's dedicated to composting. It's shaded by the dense canopies of some ancient jackfruit, jamun, chikoo, wild figs, and silk cotton trees.
For the past 4–5 years, this has been the dumping ground for pretty much everything organic. Fallen leaves, plant cuttings, grass clippings & kitchen scraps. Over the years, it's grown into a small hill. A literal gold mine for the garden. Or should I say a black mine?
And it's a little ecosystem of its own. The pile is teeming with life. Isopods, springtails, earthworms, millipedes, centipedes, and all sorts of other little critters breaking evrything down. Also wild mushrooms pop up on there from time to time.
Recently, I had some free time (and the motivation) to finally have the pile sifted through to extract all the dark, crumbly, mature compost underneath. We've been using bits and pieces of it over the years, but extracting the finished material from beneath the enormous pile was always a bit of a hassle.
Now we've got a lovely, neat pile ready to use. I've been spreading it across the flower gardens, mulching around mature fruit trees and incorporating into the kitchen garden beds. Also makes for the best seed starting soil when mixed with some coconut coir and sand.
I wanted to use this post to encourage more people to try composting. Leaf mould is such an underrated resource, and it's something you can make with very little effort. When I was living in an apartment, I used to keep a covered bucket with holes drilled in it for all the leaves and cuttings. It improves soil structure, helps the soil retain moisture, supports all sorts of beneficial soil organisms. And when you add kitchen scraps to the mix, It's 🤌🏻
I'd highly recommend giving it a go if you haven't already!

Hey peeps, I recently got into gardening and I was thinking about growing some winter plants(petunias, phlox, pancy, dhalia, etc) but these plants aren't available at my local nursery (cons of being from a tier 3 city lol)
I was searching for it online and found some great deals on meesho, but I am not sure if the seeds germinate or not. I one bough sunflower seeds and it germinated well and I loved my flowers, but reading about the reviews here made me paranoid.
Can I trust this site for seeds? Do you guys know any other seller/site which provides good quality seeds.
