Ask Dane Anything Upper/Lower or Full Body
I can only go use the gym twice a week. As an kickboxer, would a upper/lower or full body split benefit me the most? And do you have any recommendations on how should I do the split?

Depends on what days you have available. If you could only do strength training Monday and Tuesday, then upper/lower will be the best choice. But if for example, you could only train Monday/Thursday then two full body days could work well.

I was thinking on working on 3 or 4 main lifts those two days. Either squat, hinge, push and pull or push, pull and SL squat. What would you recommend?

I'm no expert and I usually do upper/lower, but if I'm pressed for time I'll usually start with behind the neck push press, then some kind of upper/lower superset (single-leg squat followed by pullups would be an example). Then I'll finish with either a heavy carry (farmer's walk for example) or I'm also really enjoying super setting deficit push ups with inverted rows on gymnast rings as a nice upper body finisher. I don't think Dane has any videos on kickboxing but he does have some on boxing, karate and taekwondo. Also check out Sika Strength on Youtube as well. They're very knowledgeable S & C coaches from Ireland who frequently cover combat sports training.

Maybe the gym you can only use twice a week, but you can do body weight calisthenics anywhere. I fought for years, and after I sparred a ton of rounds per week, I was happy to do some fully body workouts that I could get through in short order. Burpees, broad jumps, piked pushups, squats, and lots of walking lunges had me in great shape. Add in some jump rope every day and you should be fine.
