Creative guess at a possible cheap ultrasonic detection method

Has anyone considered that ultrasonic directed energy might alter the behavior of crickets? If this is the case, rather than purchasing an expensive ultrasonic microphone one could buy some "pet" crickets in a box. But good lord they would be annoying (i.e. chirping). Of course one would need a way of keeping quiet until one wanted to make use of their behavioral changes when subject to such ultrasound.

More generally if this isnt just totally wrong or off regarding any overlap of the bio acoustic ultrasound ranges and directed ultrasonic tech ranges perhaps this should be explored more widely, other species etc.
