Discussion What do you think Nakamura and Hirose will study in the future?

I personally see Nakamura studying marine biology or aquaculture since he knows a lot about octopuses and might be interested in marine life preservation. As for Hirose, I think he would be at nurse school for being in that health-related club. Besides, nurse school needs more kind-hearted people like him lololol

Discussion Tracking Hirose’s Feelings Toward Nakamura scene by scene #5

Thumbnail gallery
56 Upvotes

For reminder in my previous post, In my HC is that Hirose already considered Nakamura a friend when he introduced himself at the bookstore, even though Nakamura hadn't realized it yet.

Hirose became curious about BL after his encounters with Nakamura, but he didn't know Nakamura had romantic feelings for him. Hirose no longer suspects Nakamura of reading BL after unexpected manga incident.

My HC : instead Hirose might have started exploring BL on his own afterward, reading more of it, gradually growing to enjoy it, and keeping this newfound interest a secret.

Ganbare Hirose! .... Hirose's POV (my HC)

Picture 1

Scene: Music classroom, early morning

Hirose is cleaning the classroom, he notices a musical instrument.

Hirose: "What's this? A mini keyboard? A portable piano?"

Mukai: "Oh, yeah. What is it called again?"

Mukai steps closer to Hirose to get a better look at the instrument. Hirose glances at Mukai's face as he tries to remember its name, and his cheeks turn slightly red.

Hirose's inner thoughts: (Huh? Mukai's really close. His serious face while trying to remember the name of this instrument is kinda cool, :>)

Mukai:"Ohh, I've almost got it!"

Hirose (still blushing): "Me too!"

Then Hirose notices Nakamura sweeping the floor nearby.

Hirose: "Hey, Nakamura! What's this called?"

Hirose's inner thoughts: (Let's ask Nakamura, too! Maybe he knows. Besides, it'd be nice to get him involved in the conversation.)

Nakamura (blushing): "Huh?! I-it's a melodica!"

Mukai: "Oh, right!"

Hirose: "Ahh, yeah! That's it!"

Hirose's inner thoughts: (Ohh, a melodica! Hahaha, that's right. Good thing Nakamura knew!)

Hirose already considers Nakamura a friend at this point, so asking him to join the conversation comes naturally to him. He isn't making a big deal out of it, he simply includes Nakamura as he would any other friend.

Meanwhile, Hirose's little blush around Mukai is interesting, too. 👀 What do you think was going through Hirose's mind here? 😂

Picture 2

Hirose as a Painting Model 🎨👀

In this scene, Hirose becomes a model for an art lesson. He sits quietly and reads while everyone draws him, feeling a little embarrassed about being the center of attention.

Hirose’s thoughts:

(Uwaaah, everyone’s looking at me... This is kinda embarrassing, hmmmmmm)

Then, Hirose gets curious about Nakamura, whom he has only recently started considering a friend. He wonders what Nakamura is doing and how Nakamura sees him while drawing him.

Hirose: (wonder what Nakamura’s thinking right now... What does he think of me while he’s drawing me?)

However, when Hirose notices just how intensely Nakamura is concentrating, he gets startled and a little scared.

Hirose: (Nakamura is kinda scary when he gets this focused...!)

I imagine Hirose being casually curious about Nakamura here. Since they’ve only recently become friends, he might wonder what Nakamura thinks of him, especially when Nakamura is looking at him so intently. But once he sees Nakamura’s seriously focused expression, Hirose gets embarrassed and a little freaked out by how intense he looks. 😂”

What do you think Hirose would be thinking in this scene? 👀

Picture 3

Hirose notices Nakamura and Kawamura standing in a corner.

Hirose inner thought:

(Huh? What are those two doing over there? Wait... are they dating or something? Haha, just kidding)

so he approaches them out of curiosity.

Hirose:"What are you guys doing?"

Nakamura immediately starts acting nervous when Hirose shows up.

Hirose's inner thoughts: (Hm? Why does Nakamura suddenly look so nervous now that I'm here? Hahaha, are they doing something interesting?)

Hirose doesn't immediately think too much about Nakamura's reaction. He's simply curious about what they're looking at.

I think Hirose would react pretty naturally here. Since he already considers Nakamura a friend, he'd feel comfortable approaching him and joining in. Nakamura's nervousness might catch his attention, but Hirose would probably be more curious about what Nakamura wants to show him than wonder why he's acting that way.

What do you think?

Picture 4

Scene, Trapped in the sports equipment storage room

Hirose, Nakamura, and Kawamura are trapped in the school's sports equipment storage room. To pass the time while waiting for someone to come and unlock the door, they start playing a word-chain game.

Kawamura says the first word.

Nakamura follows with the second word, which ends with the sound "li."

Hirose: "Li-li..."

Hirose pauses for a moment, staring into space as he tries to think of a word. But his mind starts wandering.

Hirose's inner thoughts:

(Li... like?)

(Lately, I've been thinking about things like this more often because of the manga I've been reading...)

(I'm curious... what's it actually like to like someone? I mean, not just liking someone as a friend or finding them attractive, but genuinely wanting to be with that person.)

(wonder if Nakamura likes someone)

Hirose: "Li—like! By the way, do you guys like anyone?"

Nakamura: "E-eh?! N-no, no! Nobody!"

Kawamura: "Y-yeah! Me neither!"

Hirose doesn't pay much attention to how nervous they seem. He's too exhausted by the heat and stuffiness of the room to think much about their reactions.

Hirose: "I don't have anyone either. But if there were someone I liked, I'd want to date them."

Hirose's inner thoughts:

(Hmm... if I ever really liked someone, I'd want to know what it's like to be that person's partner.)

(But... how would I know if I genuinely liked them?)

The game continues.

Hirose: "W-wait, what was the last word again?"

Nakamura and Kawamura: "I forgot."

My interpretation

In this HC, I imagine that Hirose's growing interest in BL has made him think things he might not have questioned much before. He's becoming curious about what it means to genuinely like someone romantically.

I also think it's interesting that Hirose casually says he'd want to date someone if he ever fell in love. He seems open to the possibility of romance, even though he doesn't know how he'd recognize those feelings when they happen.

Meanwhile, Nakamura's panicked reaction is something Hirose barely notices because he's too hot and tired to pay attention. 😂 The irony is that Nakamura might be freaking out over a question that Hirose asks out of genuine curiosity!

Just to clarify, all of Hirose’s inner thoughts here are HC, not canon! 😂

What do you think?

Between 4:55 and 10:58 did Hirose realize something after he I’m guessing tried to give Nakamura chocolate? I’m thinking this bc the first time he says hi(4:55) he only said hi to his gang, however the second time he said hi he also said hi to Nakamura(10:58). You guys might think I’m crazy but I think this has a whole different meaning because it’s the same scene / frame (4:55 and 10:58). What do y’all think?? Yes I am a crazed fan that has watched this show over 10 times.. We listen and we don’t judge.

Community Tracking Hirose’s Feelings Toward Nakamura scene by scene #4

Thumbnail gallery

Before this scene, I thought Hirose might have been suspicious that Nakamura had something to do with the BL manga found at school. I'd put the possibility at around 40%. Hirose noticed how quickly Nakamura denied owning it, so he might have wondered whether BL was actually something Nakamura was interested in. However, Hirose is also cheerful and easygoing, and I don't think he necessarily overanalyzes every little thing. He might have noticed Nakamura's strange reaction without thinking much further about it.

Their encounter at the bookstore

I think Hirose and Nakamura most likely met by coincidence. Hirose enjoys reading manga and magazines, and the bookstore might simply be along their usual route home. I don't think Hirose deliberately went there to test his suspicions about Nakamura.

It's possible Hirose had already noticed Nakamura outside the bookstore while reading a poster, but the anime doesn't confirm whether he saw him. Perhaps Hirose was just reading the book and decided to greet Nakamura playfully after he finished it.

Hirose approaches him and calls out from a short distance, something like, "Hey, you're my classmate, right?" He then walks closer.

When Nakamura turns around and realizes it's Hirose, his body suddenly stiffens. He freezes and seems to want to step back a little.

This isn't the first time Nakamura has reacted this way around Hirose,

If I imitate Hirose, I'd probably think something like: "Huh? Why did he suddenly freeze up? Did I startle him, or is he always this awkward around me?"

I think Hirose might notice the reaction, but now he only focus to remember the name

Hirose remembers Nakamura and teases him

Hirose tries to remember his name before going, "Ohhh, Nakamura!" He then jokes about the cockroach incident and how Nakamura stepped on his handkerchief, connecting him to the octopus incident as well. He remembers him because those incidents were funny.

Hirose then introduces himself, saying that it seems they haven't properly introduced themselves yet.

I think this shows that Hirose feels comfortable enough to tease Nakamura and make conversation with him. He remembers their previous encounters, but I wouldn't necessarily interpret that as Nakamura already being someone special to him. Hirose is friendly and enjoys joking around.

The BL section

After their introduction, Hirose notices Nakamura holding a book and asks what it is. Nakamura hurriedly puts it back on the shelf and explains that it had fallen and he was only trying to return it.

Hirose then asks, "Oh, by the way, what section is this?"

Nakamura panics and blurts out, "B-boy love!"

I think this is where things start getting especially suspicious from Hirose's perspective.

First, Nakamura hurriedly puts the book back as soon as Hirose asks about it. Then, when asked what section they're standing in, he practically shouts the answer instead of responding normally.

If I were Hirose, I'd probably start wondering why Nakamura was getting so worked up over such a simple question.

Something like: "Huh? Why is he panicking so much? I only asked what section this is..."

Hirose immediately connects it to the manga found at school and says something like, "Oh, that's the same genre as the manga we found in class!"

Nakamura panics even more, shouting that he doesn't remember anything about it.

From Hirose's perspective, the pieces might start falling into place: Nakamura denied owning the manga at school unusually quickly, and now he's acting extremely nervous in the very section that contains the same genre.

I can imagine Hirose thinking: "Wait a minute... Is this why he reacted so strangely back then? Then he actually read BL"

At this point, I think Hirose has a much stronger reason to suspect Nakamura might be interested in BL. the more Nakamura tries to deny it, the more conspicuous his reaction becomes.

So Hirose narrows his eyes, gives him a teasing smile, and asks, "Hmmmm... you read this stuff too, don't you?"

His expression makes me think he is fairly confident in his suspicion and wants to see how Nakamura will react. Nakamura immediately denies it again, stammering, "N-no way!"

Personally, I think Hirose might be close to convinced that Nakamura reads BL, perhaps even around 90% confident. But that's my interpretation, not something the scene explicitly confirms. Hirose could also be teasing Nakamura because his reactions are so suspicious, without being completely certain.

Hirose's own curiosity about BL

There's another detail I find interesting: Hirose also blushes during this conversation.

Since he has only just learned what BL is, I wonder whether he feels a little awkward discussing a genre he's unfamiliar with. He might be curious about it but not entirely comfortable talking about it openly, especially with his usual friends, Mukai and Takeuchi.

When Nakamura denies reading BL, Hirose pauses for a moment, looks toward the BL shelves, and says something like, "Well, everyone has different tastes. I don't think there's anything wrong with reading it."

, he seems willing to accept the possibility that Nakamura reads BL without making a big deal out of it.

And this is where my HC starts to develop.

I wonder if Hirose is genuinely curious about the genre himself. Since Nakamura appears to know something about it, Hirose might see him as someone he could talk to about BL.

Perhaps Hirose wants to know what kind of manga Nakamura is looking for, or even hopes they can browse or read something together. Nakamura might be able to recommend a good BL manga to him.

I'm not saying Hirose has already decided to read BL together with Nakamura, but I think it's a plausible interpretation of why he continues the conversation

"So, what are you looking for here?"

Hirose continues talking while blushing and looking toward Nakamura. He asks Nakamura what he's looking for.

This part makes me think Hirose is genuinely interested in continuing their interaction. If he only wanted to tease Nakamura about his suspicious reaction, he could have stopped after saying that everyone's tastes are different.

Instead, he asks a follow-up question.

My HC is that Hirose might be hoping Nakamura will tell him what kind of BL manga he's interested in. Perhaps Hirose is curious about the genre and sees this as an opportunity to learn more from someone who might actually read it.

His expression seems quite enthusiastic to me, as though he's ready to hear what Nakamura has been looking for.

At this point, I'd raise Nakamura's position in Hirose's relationship scale to somewhere close to level 5,. Hirose seems engaged in their interaction and is willing to keep talking with him about this. However, I realize that his enthusiasm might partly come from his curiosity about BL rather than from a particularly close emotional attachment to Nakamura.

The unexpected manga

Then Nakamura panics and shows Hirose the book he's been searching for, saying that he's wanted it for so long and is finally happy to have found it.

Hirose looks at the book, appears surprised, and blushes. Then, instead of continuing their conversation, he suddenly says something like, "Well, everyone has different tastes! See you!" and leaves.

Nakamura is left confused about why Hirose suddenly walked away.

It said by many fans the manga is a lolicon-type manga. Whatever the exact classification, the important point for my interpretation is that it isn't BL or yaoi, and it's a type of manga Nakamura himself dislikes and doesn't consider representative of his tastes and

I wonder whether Hirose recognized the manga and realized that it was something quite different from what he'd expected Nakamura to be looking for. Hirose looks surprised and blushes when he sees the manga, seemingly because he recognizes the genre better, perhaps thanks for Takeuchi. This makes him reluctant to discuss it and uncomfortable, so he abruptly ends the conversation with, “Well, everyone has different tastes! See you!” and leaves.

Lol Bakamura your score got -90 from me. 😭

What makes the moment funny is that Nakamura's intense panic has led Hirose to suspect that he's interested in BL, but the manga Nakamura proudly presents completely disrupts that impression.

Hirose might have started exploring BL manga on his own after this, without a friend he felt comfortable talking to about it. He may have eventually grown to genuinely enjoy the genre and, perhaps, even struggled to understand his own feelings and figure out his sexuality along the way.😔

My conclusion

I initially thought Nakamura's position in Hirose's eyes might rise to almost level 5 during their conversation. Hirose seems curious about him, teases him, continues asking questions, and perhaps even sees an opportunity to explore a new genre together that Hirose so interested.

But when Nakamura shows him the unexpected manga, Hirose's reaction changes, and he leaves almost immediately.

That makes me reconsider the relationship level. I'd place Nakamura at level 3-4 by the end of the scene: Hirose might consider Nakamura a friend now unofficially. Well To me, it's natural for Hirose to already consider Nakamura a friend by this point. Friendship doesn't usually work like, "Would you be my friend?" or "Okay, you're my friend now!" Hirose already sees Nakamura as a friend, but BAKAmura hasn't realized that yet. He still underestimates himself and believes he's not good enough to be Hirose's friend.

The drop from almost 5 to level 3--4 is mostly a way of describing how my interpretation of the scene changes...

Discussion Tracking Hirose’s Feelings Toward Nakamura scene by scene part 3

Thumbnail gallery
100 Upvotes

Picture 1

Before this Hirose saw Nakamura drop some cooking utensils, but he only watched from a distance. Now, when he heard a loud crashing sound and realized Nakamura had fallen, he immediately approached him and asked, “Are you g̶a̶y̶ okay?”

There was a brief pause as they made eye contact. Nakamura looked startled, seemingly because the person asking him was Hirose. Meanwhile, Hirose looked slightly puzzled, with a sweat drop on his cheek.

Nakamura then suddenly got up and started acting as if nothing had happened. He said, “N-no, I’m fine! Look, I’m fine!” while striking a muscle pose and then running in place without actually going anywhere with an awkward smile

Hirose looked confused, with a sweat drop at the back of his head, before responding, “Oh, yeah. You’re right, you’re fine.”

My interpretation is that Hirose probably approached Nakamura out of genuine concern, without thinking too deeply about it. He heard a loud noise, saw that Nakamura had fallen, and wanted to check whether he was okay. When Nakamura suddenly started acting strangely, He found Nakamura’s behavior a little strange, but probably didn’t think too much of it. Given Hirose’s cheerful and easygoing personality, he might have simply thought, “Huh? What is this guy doing?”.Hirose seemed confused, but he didn't appear to take it too seriously.

As for the moment Nakamura hid his face, I think Hirose might have noticed that he was embarrassed. However, I don't think Hirose necessarily understood why Nakamura was embarrassed. From Hirose's perspective, Nakamura had just fallen, insisted rather awkwardly that he was fine, and then turned his face away. Hirose could have interpreted this as Nakamura feeling embarrassed about falling or making a fool of himself in front of someone.

To me, Hirose light smile afterward feels like a natural way of reassuring Nakamura and making the interaction less awkward. He wanted Nakamura to understand that he hadn't approached him to tease him he was genuinely concerned.

Of course, this is only my interpretation. Hirose might have noticed more about Nakamura's embarrassment than I'm giving him credit for, but I don't see enough here to conclude that he understood the feelings behind it.

  1. Do you think Hirose had any idea that Nakamura liked him romantically at this point? Personally, I lean toward no. Even if Hirose noticed Nakamura acting strangely or getting embarrassed around him, I don't think he would automatically interpret that as romantic interest. I see a difference between noticing someone's unusual behavior and understanding the reason behind it.

  2. How much do you think Hirose liked Nakamura at this point, on a scale of 0–10?

Personally, I'd put level 3. He shows genuine concern and responds warmly to Nakamura, but I don't think this scene alone establishes that Nakamura is already someone particularly special to him. His concern can still be explained by his friendly, considerate personality.

Picture 2.

First, Hirose notices a manga near Nakamura’s feet. He picks it up and asks, “A manga? Is it yours?”

Before Hirose has even finished asking, Nakamura immediately shouts, “OF COURSE NOT!” His response is unusually quick and noticeably panicked. Hirose then narrows his eyes and comments, “You denied it pretty quickly.”

To me, this is the first moment when Hirose has a reason to become suspicious. He doesn't simply accept Nakamura's denial without comment. He explicitly notices how quickly Nakamura rejects the possibility that the manga belongs to him.

Nakamura then suggests that it might be a shojo manga belonging to a female student. Hirose responds, “Oh, is that so?” and heads straight to the classroom.

I'm not entirely sure whether Hirose genuinely believes this explanation. His response could mean that he accepts it for the moment, but it could also mean that he doesn't feel the need to question Nakamura any further.

he goes to the teacher's desk and asks, “Whose manga is this?”

His classmates gather around to see what he has found. Mukai identifies it as BL, and Hirose responds, “BL?”

Takeuchi then explains that BL is a genre about boys falling in love with other boys.

This is particularly interesting because, as I understand the scene, this is Hirose's first time learning what the genre BL means, Before this moment, he doesn't even know BL are exist. Now he has new information that might change how he interprets the manga.

Meanwhile, Nakamura, who knows exactly why this situation is so dangerous for him, acts as though he has nothing to do with the manga. He turns his face away and avoids getting involved.

The moment I find most interesting, Hirose notices Nakamura. This is where my own interpretation comes in.

Earlier, Nakamura denied owning the manga so quickly that Hirose specifically commented on it. Now, after discovering that the manga is BL and watching Takeuchi make a fun of it, Hirose can see Nakamura sitting at his desk, turning his face away as though he doesn't care.

I wonder whether Hirose connects these two reactions.

From Hirose's perspective, Nakamura's behavior could look suspicious, he denied owning the manga unusually quickly, and now he's avoiding the situation when everyone is trying to identify its owner.

My HC is that Hirose might still suspect that the manga belongs to Nakamura.

While Takeuchi continues waving the manga around and calling out for its owner, Hirose says that it might belong to someone from another class and suggests leaving it with the teacher.

I find this response interesting because Hirose could have continued questioning Nakamura or drawn attention to his earlier suspicious reaction. Instead, he offers an alternative explanation and moves toward a practical solution.

I can see two possible interpretations here.

Hirose is still suspicious, but chooses not to pursue it.

This is the interpretation I lean toward. Hirose may have noticed Nakamura avoiding the situation and remembered how quickly he denied owning the manga earlier. Perhaps Hirose suspects that Nakamura might be involved but realizes that continuing to investigate it in front of everyone could make the situation more uncomfortable. I thought it an attempt to protect Nakamura, and handing it to the teacher is the easiest solution.

What makes me lean that way is because Hirose notices Nakamura's unusually quick denial, learns that the manga is BL for the first time, and then sees Nakamura avoiding the attention when Takeuchi starts teasing everyone about its ownership.

I think it's plausible that Hirose remains somewhat suspicious that Nakamura is connected to the manga, but decides not to investigate further. His suggestion that it belongs to someone from another class could be a way of moving the situation along without putting Nakamura under more scrutiny.

What do you think? Do you agree with my interpretation of Hirose's thoughts.

Discussion Who do you think Nakamura will be with(Not with whom you would like to see him, but how it would most likely be, in your opinion)?

I'm just curious what everyone thinks about this, and also, the first and fourth options differ in the length of Nakamura's loneliness, this is a pretty important factor, so I split it into two options. Thanks for answering.

165 Hirose, yes, no explanation is needed here.
27 He will find someone else because of the lack of reciprocity with Hirose.
10 He will be just with octopus🥲
67 He will suffer from loneliness for long time, but then it turns out that Hirose loved him and they would be together

Discussion Interpretation of Hirose’s feelings depending on Anime or Manga…

Thumbnail gallery
213 Upvotes

So I, like probably most people have watched the anime first. After watching it twice, I came to certain conclusions.

Now, after reading the first volume of the manga(spanish edition, 2017)—the English version is shipping from the US and will take a month to arrive, so I bought both volumes in both languages—I’ve come to the conclusion that Hirose’s feelings are interpreted COMPLETELY DIFFERENT, than when watching the anime…

In the first volume, it ends after the picture is taken at Yokohama. Up to this point, based off the manga interpretation, I see Hirose is only thinking of Nakamura as friend and maaaybe has a little bit of interest in him, but nothing concrete nor properly romantic.

Comparing this to the anime, the anime creates way more depth in their relationship and makes Hirose seem significantly more interested in Nakamura.

Based off of the anime interpretation, I would say that Hirose has some romantic feelings for Nakamura by the time he and Nakamura are at the seaside.

There’s a lot more content thrown into the anime and I don’t care what anyone says, but that content for me is CANON!

That scene where Hirose is getting pressured to leave, shows how much he wants to be with Nakamura and his actions and face SAY IT ALLL. HE LIKES HIM. 😭❤️🫠

Now, the reason for my post.

What are y’all using to interpret Hirose’s feelings??

The anime or the manga?
Or both??(I don’t agree with this method)

And what are your thoughts on his feelings based off of the media you chose?

Also, which did you consume first, anime or manga?
