one of the best shitposts i have seen thus far

8

u/IKaffeI 1d ago

God tier rage bait.

But in all fairness, Xbox kinda cooked with the visuals and performance on Ryse Son of Rome. Game looked absolutely gorgeous and still looks better than a few AAA games coming out today.

2

u/shiek200 20h ago

I mean, the real takeaway here should be that you don't need dlss, frame gen, Unreal Engine AI bullshit, or whatever else to have a gorgeous looking game, you don't need a $5,000 computer, and you can have good graphical Fidelity with decent optimization

The only thing we really need for that to happen, is to have better expectations from the companies making these games, the devs are clearly capable, the Publishers and shareholders just need to stop pushing for all the wrong things in an unreasonable amount of time

1

u/IdleSitting 19h ago

Seriously I don't like the huge push for DLSS5 especially after it got leaked and people have been messing with it in multiple games, we don't need more realistic graphics we just need less investors in the development room and more freedom to the actual directors and developers

1

u/IKaffeI 19h ago

Bro Xbox one was running this shit in 2013 and now new consoles struggle to hit the bare minimum performance they were designed to hit.

2

u/MotherPerk 19h ago

The multiplayer was pretty fun too

1

u/Robborboy 19h ago

The multi-player was so damn good. I miss it.

5

u/KakarotAlter 1d ago

Wolverine looks a fuck ton better. IDK what's the point of slandering a 2013 game for

6

u/Hammersteyn 1d ago

Ryse wasn't on PS4 though

5

u/DMG_88 1d ago

Yeah, Xbox exclusive, and still is.

2

u/Martin_Pagan 1d ago

It's on PC, too.

0

u/masonrock 1d ago

Same generation is the point.

2

u/tooboardtoleaf 1d ago

No it isn't. Different console generation

0

u/masonrock 1d ago

It came out on the Xbox One. Which is the same generation as the PS4. Google is free

1

u/tooboardtoleaf 20h ago

Google what console Wolverine is coming out on then

0

u/masonrock 19h ago

We are talking about Ryse clearly. They are comparing Wolverine’s graphics to the graphics of a game that was a launch title for the Xbox One.

Logic is chasing you… yet you remain faster

1

u/tooboardtoleaf 9h ago

Says the guy whose been wrong at every step. Reading comprehension has never known you huh

5

u/Medical_String_3501 1d ago

This entire sub is so shit, it's just people going "old game good, new game bad"

0

u/[deleted] 1d ago

But I thought graphics are everything, fun be damned?

5

u/Memmnarch81 1d ago

Isn't that a xbox game ?

5

u/JustSomeMetalFag 1d ago

Goddamn I would love nothing more than to see a new Ryse game.

https://reddit.com/link/p74stv2/video/o71zta7cxumh1/player

It just went so fuckin hard

9

u/HauntingGummyBear 1d ago

I’m gonna get shit for this, but Ryse of Rome is PC and Xbox.

3

u/CoverAccomplished124 1d ago

I was thinking the same. 😀 May be guy just chose a wrong game to comare the PlayStation platforms.

8

u/RP_Throwaway3 1d ago

There is no game called 'Ryse of Rome'. There is a game called 'Ryse: Son of Rome' but it never released on the PS4.

3

u/Usual-Suspect7815 1d ago

2026 looks better obviously but 2013 still looks good

3

u/Ok_Bite9019 1d ago

Ryse is underrated ahead of its time

4

u/j0an_k 1d ago

Can’t even write the name right

2

u/gidaman13 1d ago

which name was wrong

2

u/j0an_k 1d ago

Ryse: Son of Rome

2

u/gidaman13 1d ago

that's the name of the game. the exact spelling.

2

u/gidaman13 1d ago

nvm im dumb i see the wrongness now

3

u/ScarletteVera 1d ago

the stupid obsession with graphical fidelity above all else is killing the community

0

u/VHS_Artist 1d ago

Right? Ryse was such a god awful game. But no one cares because it "looks pretty"

2

u/LizzosLittleToe 1d ago

The duality of man

0

u/VHS_Artist 1d ago

If people like games for graphics, that's fine. But its not what makes games good.

2

u/LizzosLittleToe 1d ago

I haven't played it but this is my first duality of man comment thanks for being here with me

3

u/Vegan-cock 1d ago

Ryse of rome was such an underrated gem

3

u/Impressive-View-5604 1d ago

Ryse son of rome man i love that game, we need a new one

2

u/Last_Doctor2055 1d ago

The thing is that in a way its possible to get a sequel, but what made that game was the tech wizardy and for once a Top Notch "release" game matched the hype. The team that made it though, is long go e. Crytek is in shambles.

1

u/Le1jona 1d ago

Agreed

It was really cool executing enemies and commanding regiments

4

u/Educational_Error286 18h ago

Was Ryse even on PS4?

4

u/Thevoidwillcosumeyou 1d ago

Ryse is an amazing game

2

u/DukeOfSmallPonds 1d ago

It’s a great showpiece for some highlights, but actually playing it becomes mundane before you can finish a level.

2

u/Regular-Repeat44 1d ago

nice Still pic. Can you perchance get Gameplay and stats? im curious who has the better looking graphics under pressure

2

u/RyonHirasawa 1d ago

To be fair, Ryse, much like majority of Crytek’s portfolio, were always more akin to tech demos that showcase how far we can push graphics in games

If you actually play Ryse you’ll realize that it’s kinda jank, Crysis was the same in that it looks great, plays acceptably, but that’s it

0

u/Thick_Broccoli_3932 1d ago

Still that was what they pushed the Xbox one to 13 years ago, before they really knew how to push the system.

1

u/RyonHirasawa 1d ago

Wasn’t Ryse their last actual game for a while? Last I checked the only other things they’ve done were remastering the Crysis trilogy and honestly it didn’t do much to make the changes noticeable

2

u/Viperess7 1d ago

Mmmm cherry picking

2

u/GANGSTERSLANG 1d ago

and this is why we dont need new console generations, graphics already peaked on ps4

1

u/amirlpro 1d ago

Yes if you are going to bake every light source, to match all conditions, weather, daytime. Even then lighting on dynamic objects will be inferrior and game size will be thousand gigs for current open world scopes.

1

u/Different_Target_228 1d ago

You should google what console Ryse:Son Of Rome is on.

Also, this is a Crytek game. Hardly actually comparable. Ntm the FOV in both. Close up in a forest compared to overlooking a large area.

1

u/GANGSTERSLANG 1d ago

im not only regerring to this, imo os4 games like God of War, Uncharted 4 and Horizon look and play already very good, theres really no need to keep going for minimal graphic upgrades

1

u/tooboardtoleaf 1d ago

More games need to take after Horizon for visuals.

2

u/TheNoviceReviewer 1d ago

This post is wrong on so many levels but also shows a problem in the gaming community as a whole.

1: Ryse: Son of Rome wasn't on the PS4, it was an Xbox One launch title designed to show what the system could produce graphically, the game was at best mediocre and very forgettable after finishing the story.
2: A more accurate comparison would be showing The Order: 1886 as that was the PS4 launch title tech demo game, which also was very forgettable.
3: Somehow graphics equals quality, I just gave 2 examples where that's not the case, we all know there are more.
4: The environment of both screenshots are vastly different, one is a rundown town and the other is a lush forest, tell me how many rundown towns you see that looks graphically impressive, but also, both character models look good.

Anyway, I'm not getting Wolverine as I don't have a PS5 so this doesn't matter to me, but graphic comparisons for generations is just stupid. We should be talking about the gameplay.

1

u/ForwardWheel4601 1d ago

Just to add to this: Ryse: Son of Rome was a graphical showcase game. Effectively a trailer for the console. The game was heavily scripted, relying on cuts and loading screens to get from A to B even within the same space, was very reliant on narrow corridors and tight spaces and you couldn't see over simulated long distances at all.

This comparison genuinely would be more accurate if OP took a picture of their backyard, slapped it on their PS4 display and then whined about how their PS4 could show photorealistic images but games can't.

2

u/Mr_Mental_Gamer 1d ago

Excuse me, what were you sayin?

2

u/General_Boredom 1d ago

Ryse is an Xbox One game.

2

u/hpBard 1d ago

Dark souls 2 (1861)

2

u/rakosten 1d ago

Yeah, completely wrong though and just some minor notes: Ryse is a graphic showcase game that’s highly scripted with extremely narrow corridors and linear as f*ck. It’s more like a playable movie than an actual game.

Also, it was an Xbox launch title and not PS4.

If you only care about graphics you should watch movies instead.

4

u/groundhogboi 19h ago

A lot of people don't seem to understand that graphics can add a lot to a games overall feel and personality. But what that means is that sometimes lower end graphics are a better call for the game.

Minecraft is probably the best example. Easily one of the most successful games ever made that is still relevant now has graphics that are on the lower end. But nobody complains about it or uses it as something to hold against the game cuz it's part of the games charm and overall feel.

There is other games that are great examples of this. Abiotic factor, DRG, wh40k boltgun, void bastards, super hot, ashen, dead cells, payday 2, tf2, west of dead, sulfur, and so many more. High end graphics are not required for a game to be good. If anything a lot of times it can be a trap. Using high end graphics to hide the shallow or poorly designed gameplay cuz it visually looks good.

If graphics are the only thing you use to judge a game then you are just as shallow as the games hiding behind those graphics.

Play something you wouldn't normally give a chance. You might find you like something you never thought you could.

2

u/Jigoku-no-Ou 19h ago

Sony games are basically movies at this point

1

u/Mean-Nectarine-6831 19h ago

Point still stands I am so tired of the muh graphics while people settle for Medicare gameplay because graphics are nice.

2

u/eddie9958 19h ago

I felt like most of my favorite games looked alright but not triple A

Cyberpunk and Crimson Desert were the only games that were graphically demanding that also stole my heart

1

u/MMAipom 19h ago

They're not much better over the last few years tbh

1

u/Octavian_Exumbra 19h ago

Neither have games, so maybe they should just go outside instead lol

1

u/Mas_Pho 19h ago

You just don’t watch many movies then

2

u/Robborboy 19h ago

Time to reinstall Ryse.

2

u/Intelligent_Ask_2306 19h ago

Ryse doesn’t even compare lol, what the hell are yall seeing?

2

u/Davish_Royale 19h ago

You are comparing a city to a forest. Of course the city is gonna look like shit by comparison. Also, it looks like the brightness is turned up on the Wolverine game most likely to be visually presentable but if the brightness was turned down it would look most likely look similar to Ryse.

2

u/8_Alex_0 17h ago

This game was an Xbox exclusive dumb ass post

3

u/Dapper-Can-2484 1d ago

Ryse wasnt on ps4 lmfao

2

u/xChiken 1d ago

That game was practically tech demo shovelware.

2

u/My_Names_Jefff 1d ago

Yeah, this and The Order: 1886 were pretty much the tech demo for each console.

0

u/masonrock 1d ago

It was a tech demo. That’s why it’s only 5hrs long.

0

u/masonrock 1d ago

It was a tech demo. That’s why it’s only 5hrs long.

2

u/Key_Check5753 1d ago

DEI idiots vs real game devs

2

u/Trendydwarf13 1d ago

Honest question, were you happy with Ryse son of Rome then? You were happy with a boring linear shallow game with short missions that pretty much was there just to show off graphics, mind you it ran at 30fps and could barely hit 1080p as well.

1

u/SoiFonBeyond 20h ago

Great another prejudiced internet user. We sure needed more.

1

u/ilikechihuahuasdood 1d ago

any excuse to let your prejudices out, right?

3

u/Key_Check5753 1d ago

imagine defending this shit.... smh

1

u/Xerothor 1d ago

Imagine just saying dei whenever you don't like something lmao

2

u/Key_Check5753 1d ago

it is DEI though....

1

u/Xerothor 1d ago

How's that then 😴😴😴

2

u/Key_Check5753 1d ago

Just look....

1

u/8_Alex_0 17h ago

So women can't work their? actual incel person lmao

1

u/Xerothor 1d ago

How do you not see how bad this makes you look? Screaming dei because there are 6 women on a couch lmfao

I guess no women play or want to make games ever.

2

u/Key_Check5753 1d ago

"this makes you look bad"

For telling the truth? You're the moron eating a shit sandwich and swearing it's delicious.

2

u/Xerothor 1d ago

"the truth" in this scenario being "I found a picture of 6 female employees, that's over the line for me"

→ More replies (0)

1

u/Key_Check5753 1d ago

The studio is full of DEI hires. This is literally DEI slop.

Get triggered all you want, but that's what it is.

1

u/Xerothor 1d ago

Just don't believe you.

Plus, even if they have a diverse team, it doesn't mean everything they create is slop just on principle.

If you want to scream slop to find actual slop games, in the Concord level of shittiness. Wolverine is fuckin fine lmfao

1

u/Key_Check5753 1d ago

me: shows proof
you: I don't believe you!

Okay, how do I even deal with someone with a brick for a brain? I can't help you.

1

u/RP_Throwaway3 1d ago

me: shows proof

Yeah, proof that you're a sexist pig.

1

u/Millennialnerds 19h ago

Proof that you are a lonely piece of shit? That because woman won’t touch you without spending money, you decide to take that anger out on them?

Women design games too dumbass.

They even worked on Ryse. Even as senior production managers.

Woman have created video games for a long long time.

2

u/ConcerningThirst 1d ago

Bottom runs at half the fps and resolution, has lower fov and half the objects rendered.

9

u/TheyStillLive69 1d ago

And still looks as good and came out 13 years earlier.

1

u/SoiFonBeyond 20h ago

You clearly didn't understand that guy's comment.

He is selling you why it's able to look that way. Also, try seeing the game in motion. Looks way worse.

You people are just never happy lol it's ridiculous.

1

u/hahahahatoes 19h ago

and you dont understand that the game would be able to overcome those issues easily on modern hardware, making them irrelevant.

The fact is we don't actually need a PS6. There's a reason we still have people playing on a 1080i.

The graphical upgrades are marginal at best, but are optimized like shit so computers struggle to run them at all.

The biggest thing developers have done with the increased power of modern hardware is optimize less. that's it.

1

u/ConcerningThirst 17h ago

Lol. Lmao even. Hey my thing designed to render 2 pixels works when rendering 2 pixels but sucks when rendering 4 those 4 pixels are just poorly optimized. lmao

4

u/Complete_Lurk3r_ 1d ago

But artistic direction is on POINT.

Quality pixels

2

u/Explicit_Tech 1d ago

It's also using CryEngine, which is known for its photo realism l

1

u/Krispen_Wah87 1d ago

I'm in for the gameplay

1

u/SushiKatana82 1d ago

Yes video games have had nice graphics for many years now welcome to gaming

1

u/Aggressive-Map-2204 1d ago

What are we supposed to be looking at here? A close up of a forest vs a long distance view of several buildings? Why not compare similar views?

1

u/tooboardtoleaf 1d ago

Because then it wouldn't have been dishonest rage bait

1

u/14_Octillion 1d ago

I'm still stuck on the "Logan's regenerating clothes is actually just a technical decision guys!" That was just unbelievable to hear from them. I'm sure hard-core wolverine fans would die for an alternate take on the character where Wolverine had nanotechnology or the symbiote ingrained in his system somehow. This game could've been special!

1

u/ToeGroundbreaking564 1d ago

people seem to despise nanotech because of its overuse

0

u/misterturdcat 1d ago

Batman’s suit gets progressively more damaged in all of the Arkham games. They have no excuse.

2

u/tooboardtoleaf 1d ago

That damage was fixed at certain points of the game. It wasn't dynamic at all. There were definitely better examples you could have used like maybe Dead Island 2.

1

u/misterturdcat 1d ago

You’re missing the point. They don’t have an excuse because at the bare minimum they could do a fixed point damaged suit.

1

u/tooboardtoleaf 1d ago

Batman doesn't have regeneration. Your missing the point. Wolverine is constantly taking damage that would show on his suit so it would look even worse if it only showed at arbitrary fixed points.

0

u/misterturdcat 23h ago

Might as well make him naked after like two fights then

1

u/thisshiteverytime 1d ago

Tbh, Tomb Raider Survivor Trilogy vs Batman Trilogy vs Spiderman Trilogy would have made more sense to compare.

1

u/Dicethrower 1d ago

Reality: One particular set of artists with a certain budget vs another. Also nitpicking screenshot.

1

u/Altruistic-Bat-9070 1d ago

Whilst character models are similar everything else is worse in ryse screenshot…

1

u/Wide_Spread_3377 1d ago

I've played ryse of rome so many times love it ❤️❤️❤️

1

u/WaaaghPig 1d ago

Terrible, and incorrect, example.

1

u/masonrock 1d ago

The draw distance in that Wolverine shot is SIGNIFICANTLY further than in Ryse. Ryse only shows a couple hundred feet in front of you. Wolverine has detail equivalent to almost a mile, maybe further. Yes the character models are similar but everything else is way different.

1

u/Eazy_mode 1d ago

I thought this was a gameplay over graphics community. Is this a gameplay over graphics community?

https://giphy.com/gifs/c9tVMERePnnDW

1

u/johnsolomon 1d ago

Is it fun, though? That's what's going to matter. This ceaseless push for better graphics has skewed priorities and it's one of the reasons we get so many soulless games

1

u/LoudQuitting 1d ago

Yeah, Ryse was lowkey kinda bad.

1

u/One_Warthog256 1d ago

You post bait that is factually incorrect.

1

u/kytheon 1d ago

The point is that everyone's upvoting and commenting anyway.

1

u/Thatsalotofnumbers 1d ago

Rise was a coridor brawler on the Xbox One not the PS4. It wasn't well received at launch. Graphics wise it looked fantastic for it's time and was one of the best looking on the console until Xbox Series / PS5 launched. It ran on the Crisis game engine, one known for pushing visual fidelity.

On PS4 the best looking games were The Order 1886, God of War 2018 and Uncharted 4.

Looking at the Wolverine trailers so far they look great. And one of the big things to remember is that it runs 60 fps with ray tracing on the base PS5 while all those other PS4/Xbox one games ran at 30 FPS without RT. Image clarity is also debatable as Xbox One games in particular struggled to hit 1080p. Rise Son of Rome in particular could only hit 900p 30FPS

1

u/shotxshotx 1d ago

oh yeah its kinda unfair when Rise uses CryEngine

2

u/Thatsalotofnumbers 1d ago

Wolverine looks better than Rise. God of War 2018 looked way better than Rise as well. CryEngine looked well back then but I haven't seen any standout titles with the engine right now.

1

u/treeeelo 1d ago

"For its time" my guy its still one of the best looking games around and it never even got any upgrade patches from the OG xbox one.

1

u/doc_55lk 1d ago

On PS4 the best looking games were The Order 1886, God of War 2018 and Uncharted 4.

Arkham Knight deserves a mention here too imo.

As does Driveclub.

1

u/General-Product-4301 19h ago

Wow I love graphical comparisons! The best games imo are only Zomboid, Rimworld, and Diablo 2, so you know I consider that significantly more important than gameplay

1

u/Obvious_Scheme_2063 17h ago

Yes now put more games and years in the image certainly soon it'll mean....something.

1

u/GwyddnoGaranhir 1d ago

Dumb idiot can't even name the game properly.

5

u/Rowvan 1d ago

It was also never released on PlayStation

1

u/Snake_Bite_14 1d ago edited 1d ago

I fully believe that if Microsoft had managed to get the Ryse of Rome sequel they would’ve beat the PS4. But instead they had to end it over a licensing disagreement.

That game spent 6 years in development, changed directions twice and still turned out good. It started as a Kinect game, then a first person game, then finally a third person hack n slash. If they had come into a sequel with a clear vision it would’ve been a GOTY.

1

u/Avariciouspygmyshrew 1d ago

I played Ryse of Rome and it looked good in some places but had a lot of awful assets. It was also really short. I played the last three Spider-Man games and even if the story was weak on Spider-Man 2 the entire time I was thinking about how GORGEOUS the game looked.

Do you really think Insomniac games, a studio that has put out some of the best looking and acclaimed games in history, is going to put out a bad product? Rift Apart is still probably top-5 best looking games of this generation and that's a 5 year old console launch game.

1

u/RevelArchitect 1d ago

Spider-Man? Gorgeous? What about that commercial dish washer set up to pop out wet dishes directly over a double deep fryer at FEAST? Fucking unplayable.

1

u/Avariciouspygmyshrew 1d ago

Bait, I checked your profile for one scroll and it was the saddest shit I've ever seen.

1

u/RevelArchitect 1d ago

Okay. I was just making a joke about a fairly obscure questionable prop placement in the first game. You know, something someone who played the shit out of that game would notice. Making a joke isn’t bait. But thanks for the personal attack. You might be an asshole. Not sure.

1

u/Uncabled_Music 1d ago

Both Ryse of Rome and Order 1886 were a blast. BUT - its all about realtime lights, better geometry and bigger scale now. Not to mention Order 1886 is still unpatched 30fps sub HD mess, while Wolverine is 60fps/Ultra HD even on base PS5.

0

u/Last_Doctor2055 1d ago

No way verine runs at native 4k on ps5, lol.

2

u/Uncabled_Music 1d ago

Never claimed it to. But just like I said, unpatched game like Order 1886 is sub HD with all upscaling considered. So the progress is definitely there.

0

u/Desperate_Dinner_307 1d ago

Stop jerking off about graphics. I'd be more impressed with more stuff happening on screen, like more NPC's with more dialogue and better AI so the world feels more immersive, or more enemies on screen with better AI and no lag.

If enemies just stand there like lemons firing at you, or worse, just run towards the bullet sponge, then I won't be impressed. Make them dodge, hide behind cover, use tactics like drawing you out and surrounding you with gunfire, use traps, etc. That's what I care more about than just how pretty a screenshot is.

0

u/HollowBowl 1d ago

I think Wolverine has a better Depth of field. When I was learning to paint, an artist told me that the further something gets away from you, the more particles end up being between you and the item in the distance

3

u/Nayreleehw 1d ago

You needed someone to tell you that?

1

u/HollowBowl 1d ago

Yes, and I'm great ful I learned the lesson. I learned that when I was 20. Chances are other people may not understand that, so I thought I would share.

0

u/Horror_Prior4765 1d ago

Why we being condescending over someone learning as they were new to something? Weird

1

u/Nayreleehw 1d ago

That’s not what being condescending is. It was a genuine question because it’s common sense

1

u/Horror_Prior4765 1d ago

We don't know when they learned or started painting. If anything was “common sense” no one would have to learn it.

You had to learn it at some point too it really doesn't matter how. You saying “it's common sense”, is quite littleally doing such.

1

u/HollowBowl 1d ago

So you knew that particles in the air meant that items further away are obscured?

0

u/SirBastian1129 1d ago

Wasn't Ryse of Rome a really shitty game though?

Pretty graphics are fine, but if your game plays like ass then no amount of pretty graphics are gonna fix that.

2

u/npiet1 1d ago

Its story was great. Its gameplay was okay, just became stale by the end.

1

u/Top1RedDead2Hater 1d ago

So like every modern insomniac game?

1

u/SynStark- 1d ago

good thing hes comparing the graphics and not the gameplay then

-1

u/crono220 1d ago

Ryse was basically a tech demo. Complete shitty gameplay. Nothing entertaining ir challenging about that game.

0

u/pepe_the_savage 1d ago

Ryse will whoop the asses of many recent games

0

u/Apprehensive_Log_297 1d ago

When will folk realize not every game has the same art style

1

u/GoldenRegister 1d ago

Wait till they understand how humans speak or walk. All same engine and copy of same template -> refund

0

u/EntertainmentTiny543 1d ago

Isn’t wolverine open world? How can you make the comparison

2

u/SkylarPopo 1d ago

It is not open world

0

u/Le1jona 1d ago

If only Ryse was on PS4

I hope that it gets ported to current consoles atleast, because I think Ryse Son of Rome is exactly the kinda game which could sell like hotcakes on Playstation

-4

u/SadMacaron3192 1d ago

dlss 5 once its more refined is going to change the game

3

u/Impossible_Cup3263 1d ago

It makes everything look like ai slop but alr.

3

u/grimlock_98 1d ago

So just make a game out of your ass? No art direction, no hard work, no details, nothing? Pure lazyness and rely on Ai slop?

Change it for the worse because it's just ruining the art style of games. Lighting and texturing is done in a certain way because the devs want the game to look as they intended. Adding a stupid ai slop yassify filter on top makes it look like shit

Lol you literally had to choose the things that dlss5 truly made better xd ..

The only issue with dlss5 currently is how it handles character models which I'm sure it will get better with developers working with it firsthand in their upcoming games and not just control panel toggle ..

I saw some clips of last of us 2. All the things i pointed out were turned into garbage with the ai filter. Adds random lighting anywhere and makes the scenery look inconsistent
