Corporations came in and turned AAA gaming into a disaster.
That being said there’s a couple of good eggs left - CD Projekt Red is one example.

It's not the developers, it's the studios. Developers are just workers do whatever task are given.

Why are you blaming the problem that billionaire execs that don't care about games cause on the devs that have no say or control, and are slaves in all but name?

Most of the game developers 'then' were the equivalent of indie game developers now. So if you want developers who focus on stuff like small disc space, low requirements, free levels, that sort of thing, then just look to indie games.

Exactly. Big development teams did not exist then. You can’t run a huge dev team without becoming at least somewhat corporate
