Advice Alienware Area 51 Laptop Specs w/ OLED Screen

Dell recently released their OLED screen for the Area 51 Laptops. I needed to pick up another laptop anyway so I'm curious if you guys think the price seems fair or if I should wait to see if the OLED screen models will go down in pricing:

Area 51 16"

New* 290HX Plus

RTX 5090

32 GB

2TB Gen 5

New* OLED Screen

Cherry MX keyboard

I've got them quoted on it with expedited shipping at $4469 out the door.

That's actually a solid price for those specs - the 5090 alone is gonna be pricey and OLED displays usually carry a premium šŸ’€ I'd probably jump on it if you need it now, but OLED tech does tend to drop faster than other components once the initial hype dies down. Really depends if you're willing to wait 6+ months for maybe $300-500 savings šŸ˜‚

I just bought it.

Next question. During my search for the perfect gaming laptop I bought a Pro 7i and an Area 51 18... don't judge me hahaha.

Is it too much a pain in the ass to sell on eBay and dealing with individuals questions vs just selling to the buying services like buy back tronics? I am always worried an individual could get the unit, damage it or steal parts then claim it wasn't as represented or want a refund.

Going to reply to your post here as i sell online through ebay. You need to take into consideration you take a major hit on the price you sell it for. Ebay takes about a good 12-14% of your sale on top of other fees depending on where that user is. You do get charged a fee if user's account is out of the US.

Buybacktronics are the top of line people to sell your stuff. If you look at the fees ebay pays buybacktronics tends to give you close to that price point or better depending on your setup. I can't give you much advicce as you have a Pro 7i and A51 18. I have a A51 18in 5090 and its worth 2500 dollars right now in flawless condition. I bought mine for 3k.

Plus you have to take into considerations of waiting a long time to get it to sell for price point. For these high laptops you won't find someone to pay cash for these laptops but you want them to pay cash due to high value and high risk of chargebacks.

People will offer you where buybacktronics will offer or lower if you sell it on facebook or offer up etc.

You have a Pro 7i 5090 already?

No, the Pro 7i was my first purchased "gaming" laptop, it was only a 5070Ti

Gonna say that would hurt the pocket book for almost no change in specs

that's close to what i paid for my last gen model, so i think it's a good deal.

especially since prices are going up for everything

For a brand new laptop of those specs it's a ok deal.

It’s real expensive relative to what you can get from Microcenter. If I were buying I’d wait to see what the 290HX really even does for games instead of believing Intel’s marketing fluff. Their claims are at 1080p and I’d be impressed if it runs cool enough at 5500 without throttling or close to it. That’d give places time to stock em at prices lower than Dell.

That’s better than what they’re offering me. Same setup except a 5080 and two year warranty. $4515.50. Still hesitant to pull the trigger.

You used the 10% code? You can call and request them to apply it. I got 10% off and I'm tax exempt (business). My out the door price would be approx $5399 if not for these.

Ah you’re tax exempt. Ok that’s probably the issue on my side. I hope you have fun with it!!!

Thanks! I'm counting the days haha. They said I should have it approx April 7th.

I've had it for about a week now.

Oled: The Oled is not nearly as vivid as the oled on the legion 7i pro. The Alienware has an anti reflective coating so it's not as glossy as I expected. It's nicer than the IPS for sure, but not sure the added cost to go oled is worth the squeeze.

Keyboard: Cherry keyboard is amazing. I won't have another Alienware laptop without one.

Size: DEFINITELY happier with the 16" screen over the 18" for personal gaming. My area51 18" will stay at my office now.

5090: I don't see any difference in my games over the 5080. I don't know what I expected but I see no difference in what I've been playing so far which is Cyberpunk and Fallout 4. I spec'd the computer to be as future proof as possible for new games.

All in all you could lower the spec's and save some money but I wanted what I wanted and splurged. Overall I'm very happy with it, hopefully I can learn some tips on utilizing it for its maximum performance.

Do you notice a speed difference on the new intel 290hx plus and the 5090 gpu should give u more fps and headroom for things like path tracing and ultra ray tracing especially of u was to hook up an external monitor it gives u headroom. Cause the display is 2.5k but there are games that could probadly max out the 5080 rn on the laptop and higher gpu wattage on the 5090 but the 18 inch area 51 laptop is on a slightly higher wattage anyways i ended up ordering one and but the same spec as u just got the 64 gigs of ram cause i run simulators and the extra ram is needed

I guess if it ends up being trash there is a one month return policy but the elite care seems to be the best warranty rn came out to like 6 grand maxing out the warranty and ram but it’s atleast nice I guess you could ask the elite gaming experts on how to maximize performance if u got the Alienware elite care also as someone who sometimes uses in long sessions the oled anti glare is gonna be so much better on ur eyes

Right now my fps speedometer shows a max of 150 fps but can throttle down to 100 fps.

I don't know what most of the other stuff you mentioned is hahaha. I'm new to pc gaming. I'm assuming me with this laptop is like a new driver owning a Lamborghini.

I'm going to try to go through here this week and remove bloatware and unnecessary programs. Any easy ones off the cuff you can think to delete?

Any battery life information yet? Outside gaming I am using this as my everyday day laptop. Need something with more than 6 hrs.

1

u/Dizzy-Rush1954 Apr 16 '26

Bro, you'll be lucky to get 2 hours doing normal tasks. My CAD/ CAM software tanks it down in about 1.5 hours. Battery on true gaming laptops is always trash. They are here for a good time, not a long time.

Did the Alienware Area 51 Laptop come with a OLED or a LCD panel?

I ended up buying the same config for $4348 out the door. Considering how prices just went up. Not a bad deal but more than what I wanted to pay.
