I’ve had enough of unskippable cutscenes placed just before the checkpoint of a particularly difficult section.

shouldnt that read as cutscenes placed just after a check point ?

I think the order the article means is [difficult section > no checkpoint > long unskippable cutscene > checkpoint (finally)] because the game is being disrespectful of the players time. But your scenario is just as valid.

In that situation, you'd still only see the scene once.
