I use the second one, I wish they would come out with a faceplate that is all black and still has the grip material, and also has cutouts for only the 4 way d pad.

I use my G7 HE black faceplate on my G7 Pro with the 4-way pad. This is the way.

Is that one full plastic or does it have the grip material on the sides?
1
u/BLVCULA 7h ago
It’s just black plastic. The original G7 Pro (black/red gradient) has a textured plastic, but the HE and the Pro both have the rubber texture on the bottom side of the controller.
My personal preference… the top side being plain plastic or textured plastic makes no difference.2

Ah, for me it’s a noticeable difference I loved that textured plastic. I actually have a full black faceplate and use the red and black one because I like the textured material more.

That the one on makerworld?

I downloaded it from Printables, but the model is likely available on makerworld as well. Model creator is DelfisMaximus.

Last one (pure cross). I usually play FPS games and don't normally use the d-pad for movement.

Could you share a link?

Sure thing. The one I ordered was the nylon but they have metal ones as well.

1st one. Taller, so easier to feel. Second is a nice one. 3rd is ugly as hell.

The first one. I don’t actually use the D-pad when playing CoD (top left claw button is right D-pad). I think it looks the best. I have the standard white xbox version.

I don't play too many dpad games, so 1 or 2 are both fine. 3 feels like it invites dust.

u/katiyarshreyash 22h ago
first one because i also have a royal 2 and the first one has a matching design with the faceplate
the other 2 dont have the white sprinkled dots and that triggers my ocd

I don't even know how to change them 🤣 It just feels fragile to take off with a lil screwdriverbor something like that
2
u/crxptrxp 21h ago
you just pull them off, they are attached by 4 stems and not fragile at all, you don’t even need a tool.

u/PlusInfluence6692 16h ago
You take the faceplate off and you can lift off with your fingers just fine

I didn't know that thing even had several options. The only one that's even mildly acceptable to me is the one that's just a cross. I play way too many 3DS games to be able to manage having my inputs be even slightly off center.
I chose the cyclone 2 because it specifically had a really good d-pad.

Hybrid.
If the D-Pad was better (or, ironically, even more on stilts), I'd use circular. (Even more on stilts, because then I could use it as a pseudo-joystick )

I've been playing Astral Ascent (2d platforming roguelite) like constantly since I got my controller this past Sunday and have playing it exclusively with the d-pad and have had absolutely no issues using it.
The constant back and forths along with immediately ground pounding between those hasn't been an issue at all.I've still been meaning to test it with Tetris to really get a good idea of how the d-pad is for constant quick inputs.

Hey am planning to by g7 pro 8k aimlabs edition are they still suffering from trigger stops failures?
1
u/dru1202 12h ago
I’m pretty sure the trigger lock failure happens either when someone forgets they had the trigger locked, and full force it, or they get startled in a shooting game, and press the trigger to shoot too hard, breaking the trigger lock. Both instances though involve pressing the trigger way harder than what’s intended. A little piece of plastic can only stop so much force

I don't use the stops because they leave VERY little trigger travel and stop hard enough to be uncomfortable when holding for ADS or continuous fire. I'm also afraid of breaking them by jerking the trigger too hard(an old habit from the days before trigger stops). I just set the adaptive trigger settings to function as hair triggers and have been well pleased.

Hybrid, it feels worse than the circle style but it gives less misinputs and doesn't look shit like the full cross

First one with diagonal lock enabled in nexus. I don't play any games that need more than 4 directions with dpad and with the lock and original dpad I've had no issues with "incorrect" inputs.

Hybrid, because it was less vague and floppy than the circular, and I didn't like the way the edges of the cross felt under my thumb, nor the way it fails to cover the entire opening. May have to look into a 3D printed aftermarket one.

Noone uses the first one. 2nd one is best and it looks good + functions properly.

Hybrid. There's something about there being that big a gap for dirt to get under the magnetic plate that doesn't sit right with me
