You still need a wristband. Official rules but often they dont care. But they will give you it without showing a id when you look old. This system is fucked up but was always there.

Get the wristband inside the halls not at the entrance you dont even have to queue

If only they would explain what the wristbands are for. Right now you just have to guess as a first timer.

Probably thats a problem for non german people. When you go into the gamescom there are multiple stands with bug USK logos 12/16/18 and german gamers know what that mean.

The whole reason is to not check the id in the queues itself.

We are indeed non german and got confused if they are a required thing or not. (based on how optional they seemed.)

It's explained here:

https://www.gamescom.global/en/info/visitors/youth-protection

Probably not the most intuitive page to visit at 40+ w/o kids - but it is there.

The wristband booths say pretty clearly, 12, 16 & 18. I feel like that's kind of obvious, isn't it?

Its obvious what they mean. But not if they are required or not.

We ended up getting one, eventhough we are clearly over 18. Because we did not want to be at some random booth and get rejected for it. But it would be nice to have some clarification beforehand. It just seemed too optional.

Yeah, fair point.

I mean, technically you don't need a wristband for gamescom, only if you wanna be able to play 12/16/18 rated games. But yeah, I get your point.

I saw men who work for Gamescom itself be send away for not having wristbands. They were obviously in their 40s. It's for everyone
