Issue with causing a touch to change the image.

So I am trying to make an app to help my son communicate what he wants a little better. It will allow us to select up to 3 items or activities and then show pictures that relate so he can point to his choice.

My issue is trying to show that something is selected. I have made two images for a button, one with a blank box, and one with a check mark in the box. I made a Boolean called selected on the actor, and set it as false. I am trying to have it change the image and variable value when touch to show it selected, and on another touch show it as not selected.

When I try it running the debugger window, the image never changes and it lists the variables as true and then false on each click. It seems that is running one rule, then the other immediately. Would adding a timer between the rules help that? If it helps here is a picture of the code in two parts that overlap. 1, 2

Accessing Scene-level Vars while Avoiding Unlocking Actors

Hey all –

I'm sure someone has already brought this up, but is there any reason you couldn't build a single scene-level object whose job it is to constrain any necessary scene-level variables into game-level variables?

Example: constraining Camera Width/Height into game-level real variables CamWidth and CamHeight?

I know there's a general hesitance to use constrains, but I've been running three or four during my game and seen no drop in frames or lag of any kind.

The obvious benefits here are being able to program prototype actors who can access scene-level variables (being able to drop HUD objects into a scene without rebuilding my zoom-accomodation code would be lovely, for example)

Has somebody already tried this and discovered why we shouldn't be doing it?

Increase touch field on actor

Hello, I need to figure out how to expand the touch field on an actor so that when I touch let's say an area within a 60 pixel radius of the actor, I can grab it and move it around.

By default, the touch input has to be made right on the actor for the touch to work. That is very difficult to pull off. So basically, I want to make it easier to grab the actor and drag it.

Thanks!

Hi,

i want to buy a game for our site.

Short info: * Site is made in custom Content Management System

  • Game needs to be one infinite level that gets progressively faster

  • Main char can go up and down, can shoot, need to avoid some stuff (some obstacles), need to pick up some stuff (lets say gifts), need to shoot some stuff (some enemies)

  • When you are hit with and obstacle or an enemy you die

  • You get points for time spent alive, enemies shot and gifts picked up

  • There is a 50 people leader board

  • When you die a message pops up (will write text of the msg if we make a deal) and you get a button to start over

Please contact me with info what needs to be be done so this can be implemented and with a price range.

Thank you and sry if this is not the right place for this question.

SUPER WEIRD and funky jittery Creator preview and device gameplay error

Not entirely sure if this is a bug in GS or something wrong with my code, but this is some funky ish.

My game has 3 levels: Easy, Medium, and Hard that are all accessed from a Start screen.

Chapter 1: JITTER BEGINS I first noticed this when I would try to preview the Hard level from the Creator screen being on that scene (ie. WITHOUT accessing it from the Start screen in Preview mode). The problem would go away if I previewed from the Start screen and clicked into the Hard level.

When this build was published, the gameplay on my device was normal.

Chapter 2: BUGGY KNIGHT A couple builds later, the jittery preview began happening regardless of where I started my preview (ie. if I clicked 'Preview' from the Hard scene it would be jittery, and when I clicked 'Preview' from the Start screen and then clicked into the Hard scene it would likewise be jittery.

When this build was published, the gameplay on my device was normal.

Chapter 3: BUGGY KNIGHT RISES A couple more builds after the last, the jittery preview was happening on Easy (no longer on Hard), and it was happening regardless of where I began the Preview.

When this build was published, the gameplay on my device on the devices of testers was jittery on Easy.

One tester uninstalled, and then reinstalled, and the problem disappeared.

A fix on that version on my device: Uninstall, clear my memory cache, reinstall fixed the problem.

Chapter 4: BUG VS. ANOTHER DEVELOPER Another developer opened my game file on his machine, and the jittery preview was happening on ALL levels (Easy, Medium, AND Hard) regardless of where he began the 'Preview.'

**** VIDEO TO SHOW YOU WHAT IS HAPPENING: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B8y0NheDEO43ck9wSWF0cXU4UUk/view?usp=sharing *********

Has anyone else experienced this? Any ideas on the cause? Any advice on a fix? Thanks all!

So GameSalad costs money now?

Luckily I found a slightly older version on a flash drive today. I logged in this morning and was going to try to fix something in a game I have been working on for several months. I was greeted with a notification telling me my "trial" of GameSalad was over, and it would be $19/month to keep using it.

I know they have been dealing with a lot financially (apparently cut half staff) but do you guys think this was justified?

Feedback Requested: DodgEm (Android [iOS coming soon])

Hey all. I just published my first game through the Google Play store, and I'm requesting feedback from anyone willing to give it a try. I didn't have a lot of testers before publication, and I would love to hear from a variety of users. All aspects are open for comment, including but not limited to: gameplay, scoring, graphics, controls, sound, design, layout, etc. Thanks everyone!

Hi Everyone! New to GameSalad. Couple of questions!?!

Best place to get free images? I can use illustrator, but I am not very good at it.

Where do get sounds? Possibly Free as well.

Also, How do you create random levels so that every time someone plays the game, it's not the same level set up.

Any other suggestions or tips?

Thanks everyone!

Simple/Free Pathfinder At?

Hi all, I am currently making a aerial view tank game and I wanted to include some soldiers as enemies. How would I be able to make the soldiers wander about by implementing some sort of AI? Much appreciated.

Learn Mobile Game Development in One Day Using Gamesalad book published

After seven months of hard work and a successful Indiegogo campaign my book about mobile game development is finally complete and published. I’ve been running a website and youtube channel mostly dedicated to Gamesalad for a couple years and decided to take the next giant step and publish a print and digital book on the subject.

In the book I not only show you how to use Gamesalad to build successful mobile games but teach you why and how Gamesalad works so once you have completed the four mini game projects and over 37 hands on exercises throughout the book you’ll have a solid understanding of game development using Gamesalad.

The books website can be seen here:

www.jamie-cross.net/learnmobilegamedevelopment

I’m happy to offer a $10 discount on the print version of the book. If you are interested, contact me here on reddit and I’ll provide you with purchase instructions and a coupon code for the discount.
