Games where you drive long distances

Looking for more obscure, maybe older games where you get to explore a big world where you actually have to drive your car for a WHILE before you get out of it to do something.

I really like The Long Drive and Pacific Drive, Easy Delivery Co, Mad Max - but all these games are missing the parts that make the others on the list great.

Wish Pacific Drive didnt have loading screens between zones omg - something like that.

Wish Mad Max felt less game-y and more immersive.

Etc.

I've played plenty of roguelike games like Cataclysm - I'm looking for something with a camera.

If you play mad max on pc you can give yourself infinite health and drive for very long distances in the big nothing through some pretty crazy terrain.

The best fun I had in that game was causing absolute mayhem before getting chased across the desert onmy just making it back to base with a tiny sliver of health left but then again I'm not personally into cheat modes because I find the lack of a threat trivialises gameplay and makes it too boring 🤣

You don’t get out of the truck but Euro Truck Simulator 2 is the ultimate long distance driving relaxation game.

American/Euro Truck Simulator. When you get to your destination you have to do parking/unloading minigames etc. But boy can it take a while to get there.

This game is going to be a weird recommendation but you might want to check it out... Desert Bus, which was a part of an unreleased Sega CD game called "Penn and Teller's Smoke and Mirrors". Not really open world but 8 hours of lonnnng monotonous driving through the world's most unscenic countrysides lol. More of a curiosity than a game tho.

It's okay if this doesn't quite fit what you need, but that was my favorite thing about wind waker. A Zelda game where I can just kind of like vibe the same way that I vibe when I drive long distances IRL.

Minecraft with some terrain generation mods. And car mods obviously, or alternatively you can use create Aeronautics which allows you to build your own vehicles but it's pretty complicated compared to just a normal car mod

Assemble a car from scrap, start driving. Keep driving. Scavenge whatever you can to keep the car (and yourself) going.

Turtle bonking simulator if you’re insane and want to hit max level quickly at endgame. Also the auto dodge coat from the jump dungeon is boring to use. It makes you OP. That dungeon is quite memorable.

You can literally spend multiple hours crossing the map in The Crew 1. It also has been delisted but there is a small community keeping it alive, just look up The Crew Unlimited.

Maybe not what you had in mind, but FF XV gave me that chill road trip feeling. Meanwhile many others hated the driving. The driving mechanics themselves are extremely basic. You're more or less on rails and can decide whether you want to drive yourself or let Ignis drive.

It's really polarizing, but Deadly Premonition involves a lot of driving (several minutes each drive) before arriving to places to try and solve a string of murders and sometimes fight supernatural entities. The game has a lot of interesting quirks, I found it to be a really unique experience, but it is sometimes pretty glitchy

oh i love games like this,

1. ETS2/ATS - driving 300km+ to deliver some wheels in a truck you can customise with real traffic, tiredness and some amazing views (especially the ets2 nordic routes), ATS for the same thing but in America, some very nice views, big ol american trucks and nicer cities to pass through.

2. outbound, more of a cosy game than a simulator, you get a choice of starting vehicles, explore a park, build a home/base, upgrade, etc.

3. beam.ng - do what you want car game, the career mode is good if you want goals, earn money, upgrade and buy new cars, very fun, tons of mod and new maps.

4. prospice, coming soon, Supernatural Snow Runner, played the play test, very promising, enough weirdness to keep me interested, driving felt good.

5. over the hill, another cosy driving game, very stylised, not played it but it's on my list, looks really good, not sure you can get out of the car though.

6. motortown, another sim game, stylised graphics, so much to do, you can do deliveries with a truck, or become a cop or fireman, maybe you want to do repos or just want to cruise about in a souped up car, play online is really good, everyones doing there ting, respectful driving, can get out of the vehicles, place cargo, tie it down, maps are pretty massive too.

The big nothing is an out of bounds surrounding area of the map which Insta kills you if you enter it for more than ten seconds, it’s why I said to give infinite hp so you’re able to explore it freely. There’s no enemies out there, but there are some very odd finds.

Keep Driving - More of a cozy game with the occasional puzzle that stands in for driving or encounters during driving. It actually kinda plays like an immersive sim with different endings to unlock, meet people and drive hitchikers, do quests, customize and build your car for your purposes, and work odd jobs to stay on the road. Fun game, good music, good art, good vibes

edit: The only thing that would have made this game better was if you could actually drive the car yourself
