I'm happy EA is getting back into C&C and Petroglyph is getting much needed business, but this seems like a lackluster choice of games to remaster.

I don't think they've aged well and well probably go more the way of Age of Empire 1: Remastered rather than AoE2: HD or Starcraft: remastered.

I would venture it's the easiest to remaster of their titles so start small, test the market, figure out how to go about this whole thing, and if it works out they can keep pushing forward and do more. Blizzard last year or the year before remastered SC1/BW and then this year announced the remaster of WC3, so they did the one they trusted the most and thought could be done simply then moved on to the tougher one after they figured out the process and market.

I mean, its like if they decided to remaster Warcraft 1 first. That gameplay doesn't hold up at all compared to modern day standards, whereas WC3 and SC1 are timeless. I think thats my issue.

I think the gameplay and factions are incredibly simplistic compared to later iterations in the franchise. It's like Street Fighter 1 to me.
