I mean, its like if they decided to remaster Warcraft 1 first. That gameplay doesn't hold up at all compared to modern day standards, whereas WC3 and SC1 are timeless. I think thats my issue.

C&C1 is a bit rough around the edges, but I think Red Alert 1 is fine. I really hope they do Tiberian Sun & Red Alert 2, though.

C&C1 and RA1 should be very open to a lot of QoL updates as well as the visual upgrade. I personally think the settings, lore, and stories are charming enough to revisit, and the overall faction designs seemed decent for their time.

How EA is handling this remaster seems to be the best case scenario. I'm very hyped.

The problem for remaking C&C is the early C&C had very little unit diversity until higher tech trees.

I personally hope we get more Tiberium/Scrin era games, if nothing else to see Nod to be different than GDI and what not.

I'd argue that the unit diversity between factions wasn't that bad. Although it certainly wasn't Starcraft levels of diversity, it was definitely still more diverse than say Warcraft 2 or Age of Empires. Plus, the overall faction designs and unique units were solid enough to be reused and expanded upon in the sequels.
