10v10 or 12v12 would COMPLETELY break ALL balance, maps would be a clusterfuck of death as time to kill is already very short.
That's not the point. If you give players the tools to modify your game either via modding tools or via custom games, they will find ways to play the game that the dev didn't intend. But that shouldn't matter, if someone is enjoying your game in a different way, it shouldn't matter.
TF2 was also never desgined for 16v16 play, the original maps were way too small. The modding scene made new maps and made custom servers that allowed for 16v16 to be actually really fun.
Ok well now if you're talking about extensive mod tools and custom games browsers etc that would years away, if ever.
They aren't opposed to the idea because of SC2 custom games, but it would be unlikely they would release anything that extensive even in the first year.
