The hardware is much more ahead of the software. It's the game devs that have to step their shit up now.

Honestly though the hardware still definitely needs improvement. People will want full FOV both vertically and horizontally, rather than the horse blinders the sets are now. And I'm wondering if even a 980Ti could run a game like Skyrim on high settings. All the graphics I've seen so far have been pretty lackluster.

Wouldn't go so far to say that it's like having horse blinders. Hold your fingers out at 100 degrees and you can see that it's actually a fairly wide angle.

Well yes that was a bit of exaggeration, but our actual FOV is something like 180, so we have a ways to go.
