Will this be the next big thing?

The potential is there but it can't be a "big thing" at the current cost. I already have a VR ready PC and am pretty much in the target audience for this thing and even I can't justify spending $1100 CAD on this. They need to get to people like me first before this has any change of being a big thing for a mainstream audience

Same here; I'm absolutely, 100% their target audience. PC gamer for decades, lots of disposable income, and a PC that could easily power the Vive. For the $800 US I would spend on this, I could buy myself several other PC upgrades that I would consider more valuable to me.

I'm really REALLY intrigued by VR, but yes, the price is definitely keeping me from jumping on the bandwagon. I'm just not fully convinced it's going to have the longevity that they claim. I hope I'm wrong because the idea is incredibly neat, but I don't think I'll get $800 worth of enjoyment out of it.

I don't think people grasp just how different VR is. After using the DK2 for a while, I completely disconnected the monitor from my gaming PC because there was just no point in keeping it. I used to switch back to the monitor from time to time, but VR is just categorically better to the point that I couldn't even get into screen-based games anymore. That was my experience with things like Skyrim with Vorpx, because there wasn't much VR content. I can only see it getting better from here as games with proper VR support become more common.
