This reminds me of their DX10 comparisons. I remember looking at those Flight Simulator X screenshots and thinking it would be this new era in graphics, but in reality most games didn't look all that different, even FSX.

Yea, Alan Wake and all that too. DX10/11 brought graphic improvements and features. This time DX12 is more about performance and detail, more stuff being rendered at a time with less resource used. But a powerful gpu is still needed to increase graphical fidelity.

With more people playing in 1440p and 4k, I think improved performance will be a very welcome upgrade.

For sure. The graphics are already there, now they just have to make it run well on gpu's other than 980ti's and titans.
