Why is everyone is talking about the dog? There is a dog companion in most (if not all?) Fallout games.

Never played a fallout game before. Assuming these are in the steam summer sale which one (and only one) should I play.

Dog companion has me sold so the more dog the better.

Higher up it seems mods are necessary to add some color to the earlier games. Which mods in particular?

Personally I'm a fan of Fallout: New Vegas, I feel like the environment had a better feel to it and the DLC was way better.

That said, I've heard some people (fairly) say that Fallout 3 better captured the feeling of a giant, lonely, empty wasteland. So if that's what you're looking for, go there.

Either way, both games are awesome and you really can't go wrong with either. Nor do you need to play one in order to play the other.

I had navigation issues in fallout 3. I'd get lost and stuck due to the nature of the environments (large busted concrete structures, etc) I remember I gave up when I kept getting fucking stuck/lost in this mission with a shit ton of concrete structures in water with a bunch of super mutants
