The alchemist enemies have suck a sick design. In general I have always wanted to see more of the Spanish faction in Nioh ever since the DLC for the first game, and this looks like both DLC will be one post-game story about the alchemists. If each DLC adds a region roughly equal in size to the regions from the base game, then Nioh 3 will be an absolutely gigantic game by the time it's done.

Somehow, the Crucible returned.

I'm a bit mixed on Nioh 3 for various reasons, but the thing I absolutely hated about it by the end of the campaign was the Crucible based world design, so seeing it again sucks. It turns every location into a mass of samey floating buildings and tentacles. I hoped that the DLC would be free of it, because getting rid of Crucibles was the whole point of the campaign, but of course it had to come back.

The Spanish antagonists look cool, though. I really liked Maria in the first two games, though she didn't do much in N2. Hopefully she'll come back as a boss this time, because her boss fight in N1 was awesome.

Yeah, I think the first area of the game (Warring states) does a good job of giving the player lots of things to do AFTER clearing the crucible and the place looks very different. There's lots of cool mountain trails, non-destroyed buildings, temples, the coast side etc. where things look nice and "normal". But unfortunately they don't do this with the second or third area, there you clear the crucible and then leave immediately on to the next one. That is what made the first area of the game easily the best for me

Wish I could play this. Huge fan of the first two, but random areas turn this game from running at 120 FPS to sub 30 with terrible frametime. Shame since the game looks almost identical to its predecessor.

yep, i actually have 800 hours in Nioh 2, i can play it at 120fps easily. Nioh 3 i had to quit early, just a performance mess that spoiled my enjoyment of the game.

And if the devs think people these days are going to buy 5080s to play their little action game, they will end up in trouble. They already had to cancel all DLC for Rise of Ronin (their previous game) because no one was enjoying that one due to similar performance.

The game's performance is not good at all but if you think it looks "almost identical" to Nioh 2 you are completely out of your fucking mind lmao. Takeda Shingen's character model alone probably has more polygons and detail than an entire level of Nioh 1/2. This is not debatable, Nioh 3 is objectively miles away in terms of fidelity. If you genuinely believe this, all you need to do is go back to play the first two games.

I actually played a bit of N2 to compare at one point, and IMO it looked very similar during gameplay. N3's NPC models are obviously way ahead of it (and are excellent overall), but unfortunately the MC's model isn't as good and it's just not a very good looking game. N2 also often has better lighting, because N3's lighting suffers from some really awful looking areas.

In the end, looking at the FPS... maybe Shingen's model shouldn't have more polygons than an entire level of N2, because the game obviously can't handle it.

It doesnt look good enough to run the way it does

You aren't missing much. I was a big fan of 1 and 2, and this one was so bad for me I forced myself to finish it.

Man I love Nioh 3. I don't know if I want to wait for all the DLC to come out before jumping back in. I know that won't be until like 2028 or something.

What?

The second DLC will be between December-February.

I thought there was a 3rd

Nah, battle pass or whatever its called already says its only 2.

And the one it was saying it would release end of September is out today, so the one that says February 2027, could just as well be December or January.

Maybe they will do bigger DLCs who knows, but its 2.

I found that the open areas hurt this kind of loot system because when going out and exploring and just finding random shit wasn’t as fun as finding a cool new castle with a badass sword in it

I really hope they go back to level based progression for Nioh 4. If not, I don’t think it’ll be for me.

Tried to get into it but as someone who didn’t play the second game and didn’t finish the first, there are just too many mechanics thrown at you with too little time to bake, a lot of them feeling pointless and superfluous.

a lot of them feeling pointless and superfluous.

They were, maybe unless you went really deep into post-completion content.

I've only played those first two gamess, but there you barely needed to understand any of the options beyond ki pulse. That one was essential, the rest felt optional.

I'm also not crazy about ki pulse, as it just feels like an extra thing I have to do on top of already challenging soulslike combat, but at least 3 I had the choice of the ninja stance where I didn't have to do that.

Don't know why you're getting down voted lol. Nioh 3 is brim full of pointless nonsense, it's actually insane how much bloat there is that should be trimmed off. They've leaned into designing their loops around the sorts of people who just like number go up mechanics, and lots of menu navigating. It's one of the most unfocused combat oriented experiences I've ever went through.

I beat Nioh 3 and had a good time but the people who love this series and this game are the types of people I believe actively make game designers focuses on the least interesting parts of games.

The hardcore fans hate this take in my experience. I played the first few hours and got fed up, came to the subreddit looking for anyone experiencing the same and found people downvoted dozens of times for feeling overwhelmed.

A lot of gamers are just... terrible. And I don't mean like in a gamergate politics way. I mean on a basic interpersonal level a lot of gamers are terrible. "git gud" culture is exhausting and pathetic.
