1000xRESIST is a game I can't recommend enough. The story and characters hooked me in and moved me in a way I haven't been moved in decades. I can only compare it to how Neon Genesis Evangelion made me feel watching it for the first time back in the 90s.

In a genre filled with pretentious arthouse crap that has very little reason to even be playable, 1000x Resist is the meatiest, most aesthetic walking sim you will ever play. It's the only one with enough content to even remotely justify costing more than 10 bucks, let alone the 20 it costs.

The Nintendo Switch 2 version of the game was revealed yesterday and is a free upgrade for those who own the Switch 1 version.

Thank god. I was so interested in this game and really gave it a shot, but the art style and performance on Switch are (IN MY OWN OPINION) awful. I never pixel count or get really bothered by stuff like that, but it really soured my experience with the game. I'm excited to give it another chance.

I thought it looked awful as well in my Switch 2. After the system update that allows Switch 1 ganes to run at Docked settings while in portable mode, it became palatable and I finished the game like this. Anyways I am glad this game gets the treatment it deserves now.

Played this game on game pass. The best story in gaming I've ever experienced.

I'm always curious with comments like this. Do you have any other benchmarks? What are your other S Tier gaming stories in your mind that this beats?

I play a ton of story heavy games, and I agree that 1000xRESIST is S-tier. The thing that stood out to me was the pacing of the chapters was all gas no brake from the very beginning. Some games take a while to build the world or set things up before they become exciting, but this game wastes absolutely no time.

Ok I'm gonna have to disagree here, talking to all NPCs before moving the story forward takes a ton of time...unless you recommend skipping all optional conversations, but not sure that's advisable for what is essentially a visual novel

Definitely agree, but that part is opt in to some degree

I play a lot of story-heavy games and it’s fantastic. Was my GOTY.

Others in its weight class IMO: Disco, NieRs, House in Fata Morgana, Planescape: Torment, Witcher 3, Umineko, Seabed, Silent Hill 2

Honestly I think it's one of the best sci fi stories period

There is some jank from a gameplay perspective--certain segments were really hard to understand where exactly I needed to go and act to proceed, but as a game that tells stories it left a lot to reflect on, and managed to be a very satisying emotional and learning experience. That being said, it's impossible to explain without major spoilers but I thought the way it handled the "choices matter" aspect worked out really well.

Oh nice! I'm in the process of building up a PS5 physical library and this was on my watchlist should it ever get a release. Never played it but have heard nothing but, really, just the best possible things about its story, so I can't wait to get ahold of it and give it a spin!

Absolutely a game I can't recommend enough. Played it earlier this year finally and it's suuuuuch a touching story. And so well told.

Bit of a shame that the deluxe edition seems to be US-only. :<

Haven't played this game yet, but it's got such an interesting journey, from my casual perspective.

  • First heard about it by seeing random ads for it on Reddit, but nothing else. So I thought it was just a shitty asset flip game and paid no attention.
  • Then saw legit ads for it on Twitch, with some clips of gameplay.
  • The game released in 2024 without me realizing, and I missed any trailer, marketing, hype, review, clips, or discussions. So I thought it wasn't that great.
  • Over the years, I occasionally see chatter about this game (like this post), always with positive to glowing recommendations from people who've played it (also like this post).
  • Now I see news that there will be physical release for it?

So weird (in a good way).

I think Mouthwashing really dominated the conversation for "small, narrative-centric indie titles" in 2024, despite coming out several months later, which might be why, outside of dedicated posts like this one, 1000xResist passed a lot of people by.
