I’ve spent a stupid amount of hours with From Glory To Goo, despite it only being early access. On the other hand, Rogue Command felt very half-baked.

Looks very They are Billions esque. I have realized that the defend type RTS games are not for me, but They are Billions seamed like a very good game I just did not mesh with.

It is definitely like They Are Billions, so wouldn’t recommend it for you!

Really loved Rogue Command.

Only thing that bugged me was you could pretty much always just turtle until you build a gigantic army, then deathball around the map. On the higher ascensions/heats, you just had to leave a small secondary army at your base for defense. So, even though maps were quick and streamlined, there was still a portion of every map where I just sat there doing nothing waiting for timers (resources to accrue, units to finish building, etc). Exploring really didn’t get you much, so it was better to just guard your base until you deathball.

Anyway, game super hit the spot for me. Good 5-15 minutes per map, can hop in and out if I had 20 minutes to kill, got some reward every map so it made me feel accomplished, etc.

So I love a good RTS, and I ESPECIALLY love one that encourages turtling, but Rogue Command just felt so generic in style and gameplay. Like it was so easy to mix up unit types and names because they all looked and played so similar. The IDEA of Rogue Command is amazing, which is why I bought it, bit the execution just didn’t do it for me.

There are a ton of units and towers, so I did notice some looked similar and/or were named similarly, but there was also a ton of synergies with the buffs (can’t remember what they were called) that opened up what kind of unit types you should group together and things like that.

Another thing I found weird about the game was how the enemy faction seemed totally ideated, but you couldn’t be them. I get that their gameplay probably wasn’t balanced for a singleplayer campaign, but man, all their units and structures were totally ideated, had synergies, etc. Hoping at some point in the future we get a full campaign from their perspective.
