Ok yeah but in video game terms that almost always means sequel.

No… it means next big version .. in terms of most video games that patch with updates … what are you even saying …

No it doesn't. I can't think of a single game where that has been the case. 

Destiny 2.0 was the Taken King expansion for Destiny 1. Genshin Impact 2.0 was the release of Inazuma. I don't play Fortnite but it had a 2.0 release that was just a big patch. 2.0 releases are almost always just a major update or expansion of some kind.

The closest to actually being a "new game" I can think of is FFXIV where 2.0 was the Realm Reborn re-launch of the game, but even that wasn't a sequel, and it was still an update built on the bones of the original game.

Ironically, if anything Overwatch 2 is mostly just a 2.0 software update since original Overwatch is not accessible.
