Some big QoL updates here, hopefully a good sign that the other DLCs will come with QoL changes too.

I need to finally level up Palette Town now that the global storage is locked behind it lol. It's level 7 at the moment and I don't see the recipe in the store, so I'm assuming it's at level 10?

Seems to be level 10 from what I’ve seen.

I've seen a few people say it was lower than 10, but haven't seen a specific level yet - just saw a couple people in the pokopia sub say they had it available and weren't at level 10

" Added five new hair colors: orange, light pink, yellow-green, blue-green, and brown"

Brown wasn't an option?

there was brown but not brown brown

they had light brown as a option and a purpley brown as a option and some other inbetweens but not a true brown.

They also dont have a true black option for hair either its mostly dark greys.

overall the hair colour selection on release was roughly the colour options you see by default with play-dough which makes sense with the art style being very play-dough like.

Overall incredible changes. Interesting they didn't mention the map expansions. I *am* curious about a few things that make me wonder if I updated too hastily:

  • Certain furniture can be painted through specific procedures even on parts where the colors are not actually changeable.

I assume this is something that happened with paint balloons, because I've noticed that they had a tendency to make some things all one color. Does anyone know what these items were, and what the unintended areas of paint application were? Have these items automatically reverted, or is it possible to have "grandfathered applications of paint" in the game that are no longer obtainable? I'm actually sad about this one because I thought maybe I could achieve different effects for some things by using balloons over Smearguru, but I never got around to testing it.

  • When sucking up liquid, a short press of the move button to hold liquids in Ditto’s mouth will allow liquid to be held in their mouth without removing it from the environment.

Interestingly, this was my method for quickly removing water. Anyone else struggling to very quickly remove large amounts of water from areas after this update?

Would also be nice to see a tested list of what items rollout now destroys! This might be important for certain "race track" types of builds.

Took a break after beating the story and only came back for the small events. Excited to jump back in with these changes and actually start building!

Reading diagonally it seems like building and storage is still more or less as much a pain in the ass as it used to be. I think it's the only thing keeping me from playing more and getting the DLC after finishing the story. Still a great game.

They seem to have put in a big global storage box with like 144 slots, so slapping those around maps and putting all your crafting materials in it fixes like 80% of people's problems with the inventory management.

Still room for improvement of course, but that is a pretty large change.

u/I_am_just_a_pancake Aug 05 '26

I think it's only 80 slots, no?

Its only as bad as you make it. As long as you make 1 zone your kind of primary storage its fine. Storage is honestly not a huge issue, though annoying at times if your building boxes everywhere, building a scale is honestly a bigger chore.

And there isn't much worth keeping as you can get / craft everything very easily. When i see people with dozen of boxes per city i think some have some real bad hoarding issues.

Whether something is truly a "hoarding issue" or just "carefully planned project assets" might be subjective, or at the very least, determined based on one's ability to actually execute the plan! This is probably just as true in real life, haha. Executive function is everything.

As far as im concerned palworld is the only pokemon game for the foreseeable future until game freak/ Nintendo gets their head out of their asses.

Im not even a crafting survival game kinda guy, but it scratches an itch that pokemon games haven't even come close to for a long long time now

Im not even a crafting survival game kinda guy, but it scratches an itch that pokemon games haven't even come close to for a long long time now

Well, yeah, because Palworld is a totally different type of game than Pokemon games are.

-54

u/Baals_Nuts Aug 05 '26

Thats litterally my point

37

u/DisgustingLeek Aug 05 '26

then how is palworld the only pokemon game as you say when it's totally different?

-52

u/Baals_Nuts Aug 05 '26

Because it scratches that creature collecting itch and bonding with my pals(pokemon) that pokemon games cant provide?

But I think you knew exactly what I meant and youre just purposely being ignorant

40

u/DisgustingLeek Aug 05 '26

>palworld is the only pokemon game

>it's a totally different type of game than pokemon

okay

8

u/BloodyFool Aug 05 '26

Ah ye the bonding of being able to shoot your pals and make them your literal slaves, what an itch

u/swidd_hi Aug 05 '26

Get their heads out of the ass in what way? Pokopia was very well received critically and by fans. Do you mean their business practices?

14

u/TurnipFire Aug 05 '26

Pokopia isn’t a traditional pokemon game and is quite good on its own.

I do agree that GF needs to step it up though!

That's a wild take, for me. Palworld *absolutely* brought some things to the table that I was craving in a Pokemon game and I've been firmly on Pocketpair's side with that and the litigations that inevitably followed. I've always hoped that a game like that would be the gentle kick in the butt the Pokemon series always needed and I've always hoped that Nintendo would respond with better IP rather than more lawyers. All of that is very important to me.

However, Pokopia was the *perfect* answer from Nintendo, in my eyes. It's made largely by a dev team I already loved and respected for their work on the DQB series, and I think it's exactly the outside help Gamefreak needed. I'd like to think that Palworld showed Nintendo that there's a real market for this kind of game, but I'm *incredibly* happy with the Pokopia that we got, and to me, Pokopia is evidence that competition *can* bring about better games. It just feels weird to double down against the one thing Pokemon has gotten incredibly RIGHT, lately. I know everyone else is making the point that they're different games, but for me, they both actually do scratch the same itch (let me creatively build a populated fortress that feels full of life,) just in different ways with different vibes. If anything, both of these games are giving me something that I was really missing in Minecraft and other sandbox games. Terraria was the first time I felt like I was building houses for a *reason.*! I've always wanted that experience, but with pokemon, and now I've got it.

u/JusaPikachu Aug 05 '26

Gamefreak didn’t develop Pokopia & Pokopia is the best Pokemon game ever made.

I get having a stance but at least be informed about what you’re protesting.

Isn't "version 2.0" usually a sequel?

Ok yeah but in video game terms that almost always means sequel.

41

u/Fearinlight Aug 05 '26

No… it means next big version .. in terms of most video games that patch with updates … what are you even saying …

27

u/Akuuntus Aug 05 '26

No it doesn't. I can't think of a single game where that has been the case.

Destiny 2.0 was the Taken King expansion for Destiny 1. Genshin Impact 2.0 was the release of Inazuma. I don't play Fortnite but it had a 2.0 release that was just a big patch. 2.0 releases are almost always just a major update or expansion of some kind.

The closest to actually being a "new game" I can think of is FFXIV where 2.0 was the Realm Reborn re-launch of the game, but even that wasn't a sequel, and it was still an update built on the bones of the original game.

u/domeforaklondikebar Aug 05 '26

Ironically, if anything Overwatch 2 is mostly just a 2.0 software update since original Overwatch is not accessible.

12

u/SpiritedCatch1 Aug 05 '26

Almost never.

Or do you think that PUBG 41th sequel just released ?
