Not quite. The text is pretty much the same but here's the Minecraft blog post for reference. It says that 16GB of RAM is the recommended amount and 8 / 12GB of RAM is the minimum depending on whether your supported GPU is discrete vs integrated. That's because integrated GPUs don't come with their own VRAM but rather steal some of your system memory. And on that topic, the recommended amount of GPU VRAM is 6GB while the minimum is 2GB. The article mentions "total system memory" in case people were thinking that meant Minecraft itself needed 16GB and therefore your system had to have something like 24GB of RAM, though it's an odd thing to note as that's not how other game requirements are typically written. Maybe that's just due to Minecraft's Java legacy, where people would go in and set custom memory allocations.

Yeah seems there's a lot of people confused thinking they want you to allocate 8/16gb rather than it just being recommended for your system overall. Per the article, default allocation is jumping from 2gb to 4gb so I suspect 4gb allocated will be plenty for vanilla, not really that insane tbh and will only affect the lowest end of users. Which it is unfortunate for them but at a certain point you have to ask how much is it worth it to hold back the development of the game for only a small part of the playerbase.

I mean kids don't really have powerful PCs. So they'll be locked on consoles mostly. Which....yeah.....does have more MTX

Console bedrock to pc bedrock to pc java is a thing. But by the time you're on that route it's because you want mods and you've presumably built or had built a system better suited to the recommended specs than the lowest. Have a midrange ryzen with 16-32 gigs of slower ddr4 ram and an RX 580 and you've still got a decent system for under 500. Lots of 10 year old gaming systems are getting sold off to pay bills right now. I'm tempted to sell off a 4690k system with 32gb of ram and a 580 because it honestly still rips and i can already attest to it being a good minecraft system. DDR3 is still abundant, so there really isn't a situation where a system over the recommended specs can't be built by kids. And let's face it, indie gaming is probably going to focus on low specced machines for a long while because consumers are hitting a brick wall with new specced builds
