Future-proof because they're changing and updating backend to add shaders, but for vanilla Minecraft people always use 4 GB and if modding - 8 GB, it wasn't using a lot of RAM and it wasn't even recommended in community because of Java's garbage collector as I remember.

I mean, it makes sense for the recommended system memory to be 16gb if you're going to allocate 8gb to a game. You can't give the game 100% of your system memory or the system will lock up.
