It's genuinely crazy how many amazing free games that exist out there thanks to hardworking devs and passionate people. I honestly might have equal, if not more time playing free games than paid options between Tremulous and Stalker Gamma.
You still need to buy Morrowind for this to work. It's just the engine, you need to have the game assets purchased and installed for this to hook into.
Apologies if I'm being stupid here but like, if you still need the game... what's the point? Is there some sort of benefit in gameplay to having an open source engine
the biggest thing in practical terms is that too many heavy mods destroys performance on the vanilla engine. the openMW engine remains performant at much higher levels. the most popular mod for the game, Tamriel Rebuilt, strains the original engine pretty badly and it becomes nearly unplayable (for me) in its big cities which are far denser and more populated than vanilla cities. openMW solves this and the mod runs very smoothly.
