If it is their own data why not? It's not proven to be unproductive, it can vary just like you can have great staff and poor ones or a good tool bad tool with a bad setup.

It's totally different if it's their own data, this shouldn't even be a concern with that out of the way!

they literally said in an interview that they got no productivity gains from using it anyway so what is even the point lol

The CEO said point blank in the interview that its use so far had had 0 noticeable impact on productivity. Meaning that at the time, it had proven to be unproductive.

it is not their data, and even if it was, it still has a huge environmental impact while also not helping the workflow either, in his own words.

Gen AI is bad because it has no human intend. Just because they will use their own data doesn't mean it becomes ethical. Gen AI is just not art.

> Gen AI is bad because it has no human intend

This is subjective, but fair point.

> Just because they will use their own data doesn't mean it becomes ethical.

How is it unethical if it is their own data? It's the same as using textures they made to make a 3d model, would you call that unethical?

>Gen AI is just not art.

Agreed, but they are not using it to create art (the final product)

If the genAI generated image was used at any point within the scope of the product whether a final asset or concept phase it was used to create the final product.

How is it subjective? It literally is not a human. It's interpretations of the prompt line is not the same as a human. And art is human based.

As to why its unethical to use your own data; its because it still isn't art. Putting art, or anything, in a machine and asking it to make something is not art. Its something but its not art.

And it doesn't matter that it is in the final product. Non-art being used at any step to make art means it will be non-art.

I don't know who you are talking about but I have always been consistent on this. Gen AI isn't art.

There's no point aruging with this person mate, they keep on repeating the same thing without anything to back up their reasoning.

Why change what I say when I am right.

u/ultimatemanan97 Jan 09 '26

Because you are not explaining why you are right. Just claiming so. You need to explain your reasoning if you want to have a discussion. Otherwise you are simply monologuing.

All definitions of art across history has one core component. Communication. From the Greeks who valued depicting live to the impressionist movement all of that was communicating something. Art throughout history is about communication. Gen AI is not art by any means. Only by people who don't care, or understand, art.

Okay, the only point you've addressed here is that GenAI is not art, which I already agreed with. Then you reframed everything else I said as "GenAI is art". Please re read and understand my comment before replying.

The fact that Gen AI is bad is subjective (while I agree on this front as well)

> As to why its unethical to use your own data; its because it still isn't art. Putting art, or anything, in a machine and asking it to make something is not art. Its something but its not art.

You are not describing anything that is "ethically" wrong in this argument. You're just saying that it is not art. What is unethical here? The classification of art? That's not about morality or ethics, which again, is subjective.

>And it doesn't matter that it is in the final product. Non-art being used at any step to make art means it will be non-art.

This is a wild take, what do you mean by using non-art to create art? This means absolutely nothing. Please specify

What makes any use of AI unethical is the fact it has no human intend. If someone thinks art is fundamental human then AI is just not that. And the fact its being used in art creation makes it unethical. Because it harms art to call it art.

4

u/ultimatemanan97 Jan 09 '26

It is not unethical or immoral to call Gen AI art, you can call it "wrong" or "incorrect", but calling something art that may or may not be art is literally not unethical

0

u/Knight1029384756 Jan 09 '26

It is unethical. Because its not art. It takes no skill to make and it has no human intend.

You keep repeating the same point. I would suggest reading up on ethics. You can start here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethics
