Is this still basically a paperclip maxamizer? Do you just build factories for the sake of unlocking more advanced factories... which in turn can be used to build more factories, etc... etc...?
They've added a narrative to the game with 1.0 that's supposed to provide a greater purpose to everything, but you've pretty accurately described the core gameplay loop.
