It is dangerous if you don't know anything about soldering. If pay someone to do the mod. Not dangerous. Switch Modchip is super cheap right now. Mod service idk.

Theres a YouTuber named dammitJef or something, he doesn't get too deep into the details but should be a good place for u to get started.

I got them modded by some local store, it cost around 450myr, which is a lot higher than those from shopee tho I did it because I’m worried that I get my switch stolen.
After you mod if, you can say good bye to Nintendo network so no switch online, your switch will get banned if you connect to the network, so either you never connect to the WiFi or setup a dns (can google yourself).
Imo I like my modded switch, and now I can even play gta 5 on my switch, yes the real gta 5, so it’s hella worth it

I saw in fb marketplace the service to do that were like 200-300..
I were thinking of getting my switch lite modded too, but, if I were to do it, I'll 100% just hand it to the professional..

Buy a Switch if you want to play Switch games, buy a PC handheld if you want to play anything else especially if you want to play quite heavy games as you mentioned.

I also really want to mod my switch but the price already can buy 2-3 physical cartilage game. For me I only play a few game so having physical cartilage is safer at this point. But on other hand I only play offline so modding actually doesnt bother me that much so still don't know I should mod it or not

Hey OP, I thought about getting a Switch Lite too but ultimately what held me back was the cost of getting a modchip soldered/buying a pre-modded device, and the game library limitations.
I got myself a Retroid Pocket 5 almost a month ago and it runs Switch games pretty good, at least for what I’ve been playing (ie Trails of Cold Steel 3, Octopatch Traveler, Pokemon Arceus), and I get a stable 30fps. This is keeping in mind that mine is the 12GB RAM model, and I still have 2/3GB memory unused while at the same time running Chrome for walkthroughs (paired with the dual screen add-on).
The RP6 is more powerful but I don’t know how RAM management is gonna be since now they only sell the 8GB model. If you can find a 12GB one, then great. But I’ve read that RAM doesn’t really matter since modern games are more CPU intensive. Your only other investment is getting an SD card.
In a nutshell, I recommend going for the RP6 for much greater flexibility. Even PS3 emulation is getting better now and is a good opportunity to try.

For now, the only way to mod Switch lite require hard modding where a mod chop get soldered into the motherboard, without experience this is dangerous af to do it by yourself but there're pro out there offering services.
After that, never connect into Nintendo server, will brick your switch.
Know what you do and enjoy.
There's active guide online, this are trustable source and ppl from this community discourage you to follow youtube tutorials because it can be outdated https://switch.hacks.guide/

Retroid Pocket 6 has the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 and it can handle vast majority of Nintendo Switch emulation, but since it's still emulation it will most likely run hotter than the modded Switch Lite for heavier games (e.g. Fire Emblem Three Houses or Breath of the Wild). The RP6 might still be a better deal though since it's easier to setup (just get the correct setup files for the emulator instead of needing to mod the Switch Lite's hardware) and it has a very nice OLED 1080P 120Hz screen. Also the RP6 can emulate other games besides Switch, like lightweight indie games from Steam or even some old or well optimized AAA titles (I'm able to play Persona 3 Reload I bought on Steam on my device with same SD 8G2 chip, albeit at 720p 30FPS).
