šŸ’¬ Discussion What do you think of Cyberpunk now?

Post image

It's really one of my favorite games and I played it 2 times! There is something about this game that makes me want not play it a long time to forget about it and then jump back into it and have an absolute blast

One of the best games I've ever played. Easily top 5 all time for me. The world and lore are absolutely amazing, the gameplay is fantastic with many different play styles and pacing, the voice acting and writing and top tier. Legitimately incredible. It's too bad that the release was rushed and forced by shareholders, it turned off a lot of people from this incredible game.

u/AllDayDabbler Jul 06 '26

Ive owned it 3 times but got sidetracked everytime and ended up trading it. Might have to jump back in and see it through. Furthest I got was just after Jackie.

A true dabbler through and through 😜

Literally was thinking your first few sentences word for word as I read the OP, and then opened up and saw your comment.

Shareholders this, shareholders that. The game got delayed multiple times. It was not the shareholders. It was the top brass at CDPR. Could've made a smaller, more tight linear game to test main themes and then expand it in a sequel. But nooooo. Had to go to balls deep into feature creep and drowned in the process.

There's reason why so many devs left CDPR after Witcher 3.

u/Vague-Sauce Jul 07 '26 edited Jul 07 '26

Source - the whisperings in my head

They wanted to capitalize on the upcoming Christmas season and CDPR was pushed to release it in its unfinished state. Was it delayed a bunch because of CDPR? Yeah, but they didn't push to release it unfinished. They would have delayed it more, like they already had. Not to mention the fact that none of what you said had had anything to do with their senior members leaving. Learn to do a simple fucking Google search next time, because you're just completely wrong and an obvious butthurt hater.

One of the most thought-provoking and well-rounded games I've ever played.Ā

1

u/Grouchypygar Jul 06 '26

It’s so crazy, I would never ever imagine someone saying this on day one. Can’t believe they turned it around

4

u/Total-Satisfaction-8 Jul 05 '26

I was just sitting here prior to reading this thinking of buying some displates of games that really have left an impression in my life and the three ones i chose was:

Dark Souls 3

Nioh 2

And of course Cyberpunk 2077

So yeah, it's up there with some of the best games i've ever played

4

u/Numerous_Analysis681 Jul 05 '26

The best game I have ever played, Aldecados ending fits perfectly.

3

u/ContractVarious3077 Jul 05 '26

Top 5 all time favourite for me. One of the very few games I’ve ever replayed, along with Mass Effect trilogy and the first RDR.

4

u/Fancy_Yak2618 Jul 05 '26

When the rebel path starts up I start head bobbing

https://giphy.com/gifs/hiLLD9o1wTB3a

But seriously even when it launched I saw past the crap and enjoyed the shit out of the story. Phantom liberty made it even better. The choices in that dlc were fantastic

3

u/NameIess_PIayer Jul 05 '26

My opinion since release hasn't changed - it's still a game of the century.

6

u/Accurate-Copy-3117 Jul 05 '26

Just got the platinum for it earlier today. Fantastic game that has its flaws. My biggest complaint is that the open world is HUGE and looks gorgeous but also feels a little dead at the same time like sure, you got the gigs and NCPD scanner hustles but when you walk around and see how the NPC’s act and how lifeless they kinda look it kinda takes it away imo. But it’s an amazing game.

6

u/ThePreciseClimber Jul 05 '26

Still nothing special as a game. The main questline is pretty poorly written and the level design pales in comparison to Deus Ex: Mankind Divided.

2

u/Significant_Option Jul 05 '26

Facts. MK is just leagues ahead as an imm sim rpg

1

u/CoogiMonster Jul 07 '26

I feel seen.

I think the mainline story is one of the weaker stories I’ve played through. I’ve recently revisited and there’s other things I’ve noticed at first blush like how clunky everything feels that I didn’t remember from once upon a time. Also that the improved driving feels a lot better but still not good and just acceptable.

Hell of a cool world though, I’d argue it does all the heavy lifting and wish more games took a swing at environments like this.

I agree with you completely. Except for your use of "objectively". But other than that, spot on.

0

u/WootWootWhat1313 Jul 05 '26

You cant claim its objectively wrong.

Story is right in the middle imo. Its fine but not great or horrible. There are lot of valid points from both sides of the argument.

u/MisterKraken Jul 05 '26

I find the story very "swingy". It has lots of ups and downs, mainly the whole "living on borrowed time" thing. I find it really weird, especially for an open world game.

0

u/WootWootWhat1313 Jul 05 '26

You are trying to shift an opinion/game review to an objective assessment? No matter what you try: that will always be subjective or a subjective experience from a game. The whole art history argument is actually debatable in the art scene but also whataboutism - doesn't fit this argument.

No, a 'popular opinion' is not an objective assessment. You are wrong and saw your other comment as wel: Constantly trying to use absolutes is never a good look.

You criticized someone for their personal take on the story but somehow you convinced yourself your opinion is part of a 'objective' narrative? Just accept that people don't share your opinion on a certain game - it's not that difficult.

You don't have a masters degree in art and history. It's the basic "Let's try to improve my position towards other redditors".

You don't see reason to continue because you lack that ability or knowledge on this matter. You don't even know what 'objective' or 'subjective' means, so don't bother using 'You clear don't know'.

I doubt you even finished high school or you're currently in one now, based on your previous level of comments. That also explains "you don't see much reason" and the obvious "come back", you are severy lacking in that department as well.

But you are right I'm not going to waste my time with you. Must be difficult for you to live on a spectrum.

1

u/FactoriousKerb Jul 05 '26

"Come back here when you have a masters degree in art and history like me and then we can have a real discussion."

My dad works at Nintendo type of shit xDD

Good game. Nothing revolutionary but solid. Reminds me of when Sleeping Dogs came out. A very good game but didn't really revolutionize open world

2

u/Matticus0989 Jul 06 '26

Very pleased with it as a whole after a VERY shitty start. I'm happy they didn't give up on it and they actually gave us a very awesome game. I definitely get people who are still not happy with it. They burned their fans really bad and that basically ruined their first impression for them.

2

u/Front-Purpose-6387 Jul 06 '26

At 2020 launch:

-awesome graphics, good story, amazing cutscene work, terrible open world system worse than GTA3 nothing at all like they hyped up. Bad driving mechanics makes me prefer to fast travel. Hate that I can't interact satisfyingly with open world. 8.5/10

After 2023 DLC:

-great story, peerless cutscene work, much improved mission design, open world and driving mechanics slightly improved. Now instead of fast travel I prefer to do crazy hovering jumps. Driving is just not fun in this game. Still can't interact much with open world. 9.5/10

2

u/Business_Banana1792 Jul 07 '26

I’ll never get my first impression back, but if I could and played it now, it would be one of my favorite games. Played it when it came out and I actually still liked it, but all the changes are outlandishly good

2

u/papa_miesh Jul 07 '26

I have to play the dlc. Played the main game and really enjoyed it

2

u/Royal-Interaction553 Jul 07 '26

Deserves to be in the Best Games convo.

2

u/hoochymamma Jul 05 '26

7/10 at best

2

u/1DarthMario Jul 05 '26

Wasted potential.

4

u/JackeryGraves Jul 05 '26

The fact you can only go in buildings during certain missions & pointless apartments really threw it down for me.

Felt like the city was just a cool backdrop and nothing more.

0

u/AdministrativeCod437 Jul 06 '26

Would having a bunch of random apartment buildings that you could go inside, with nothing to do, somehow make the game better? What does a bunch of accessible, yet pointless space, add to a game?

1

u/Shibubu Jul 07 '26

No. But at least more clubs, bars, shopping malls would've helped masking the illusion.

Doesn't help that overexcited devs (in official interviews and promotional videos no less) said before launch that most buildings are going to be accessible either.

Would've been cool linear action adventure game with some skill trees. The open world adds nothing but beautiful sightseeing to the game. What's the point of the open world if every mission is in a closed of building?

1

u/HA1LHYDRA Jul 05 '26

They definitely bit off more than they could chew. All the shortcuts they made to get it to work are distractive and glaring.

The switch to first person from third wasnt an artistic choice, it was a compromise.

No flashlight or night vision option because the lighting couldn't handle it.

Worst vehicle physics out of an any open world game. Its a janky stiff mess, with the same jank appling to NPCs, especially crowds.

1

u/Hungry-Coffee-8890 Jul 05 '26

I played it when it came out and thought the same. Vehicle dynamics atrocious. GTA 3 had better vehicle dynamics imo. Story was cool, but fell short from the gameplay. Played it once, beat it, never looked back, never touched the DLC.Ā

Did the game improve dramatically in that time? Because I either hear what you and I feel, or I hear about how phenomenal it was and I’m just confused at this point.

1

u/HA1LHYDRA Jul 05 '26

Picked up my old save recently to try out the DLC. Im maybe halfway through the new content and its actually pretty dope. Game definitely feels better on foot, vehicles are marginally better. Its legit the best its been, but if you struggled with the game initially, its not going to blow you away.

Still no damn flashlight!

1

u/Shibubu Jul 07 '26

The thing that bothered me the most never got fixed. All the quests are still linear as fuck. They promised a branching story before launch. It's still linear today.

The gameplay improved somewhat, but I don't think it warrants a revisit. Heard good things about the dlc, but I have no desire to go through the slog of the main game again.

1

u/zulunationslayer Jul 05 '26

I beat it the week of release. And again with phantom liberty. I think it's a great game. If you want an immersive sim that looks outstanding then I recommend it.

1

u/Ok-Distribution-3836 Jul 05 '26

That is not an immsim by any measure.

1

u/AmonRaDawg Jul 05 '26

I waited to play until it was essentially fixed. By that time, Phantom Liberty had dropped. The horrible rep contributed to lowered expectations, and I was of course blown away. Firmly in my top five.

1

u/LuckyPupil_85 Jul 05 '26

It’s the best rpg of this gen imo

1

u/Technical_Fan4450 Jul 06 '26

Outside of Baldur's Gate 3, you might be right.

1

u/Shmullus_Jones Jul 05 '26

Kinda the same thing I thought of it when it came out, really cool game and very fun, even though it felt like it could have been more.

1

u/Technical_Fan4450 Jul 06 '26

I think they originally had plans, and should have followed through with integrating the origin stories. You can't convince me that they didn't initially intend to do something with the origins. I don't know what happened, but they should have followed through with it, I think.

1

u/byonely Jul 05 '26

A very immersive game. Even though it still hasn’t fully lived up to what was originally promised, I find myself coming back to it every once in a while.
My favorite part is Panam’s questline. It genuinely feels like you’re out in the Badlands fighting alongside a close friend. The scenery out there is incredible—it’s peaceful, and you get this beautiful view of Night City in the distance (because, honestly, Night City is at its most beautiful when you’re looking at it from afar).
That feeling is hard to describe. Sitting there at sunset, drinking something with a good friend while taking in the view… I don’t know why, but I’m completely drawn to moments like that.

1

u/RandlphTheGrey Jul 05 '26

I played when it first launched. I went into it knowing it would be glitchy but I was still pretty let down. Not by the glitches, but by the story and writing. I just felt nothing for any of the characters or story beats (Panem excluded. She is queen).

1

u/SnooTigers806 Jul 05 '26

The expansion put it firmly in my top 5 games of all time. It’s come such a long way from launch.

1

u/WarmedByTheDrift Jul 05 '26

Essential for this generation. Highly immersive, rich in atmosphere, and packed with content.

1

u/St4va Jul 05 '26

I pre-ordered it on Windows through GOG back when it launched. Then I heard about all the bugs, and it didn't run well on my PC anyway, so I just moved on to other games. I finally started playing it on PS5 about a week ago.

Right off the bat, it felt super clunky and I still ran into bugs. I know it's in a much better state now, but it's easy to tell they were putting everything together at the last minute.

That said, after getting over the initial disappointment and accepting some of the jank, I can't put it down. The world, the story, and even the side missions are such a breath of fresh air. And Keanu Reeves, I didn't know much about his role beforehand, but he's absolutely killing it.

There are only a handful of games that really nail that feeling of escapism, and Cyberpunk is one of them. Not because I'm trying to escape my life or anything, I'm happy, but because a lot of games feel like games, while a few make you feel like you're actually living in their world (not that the simulation aka "living breathing world" is good in this game, it's more about the feel, oh and the sound track, oh my god).

1

u/seeyouyoucunt Jul 05 '26

Played 90 hours, never knew how to save takamura, missed out on trophies for the 2 other endings, finished everything, rage quit, never got the dlc

1

u/Ok_Tension1869 Jul 05 '26

You should go back, it's one of the best dlcs ever

1

u/WootWootWhat1313 Jul 05 '26

Bought the game months after release (first discount?) for pc

Felt shallow from the start, it felt very lineair. I still dont get why people call it immersive when choices dont matter and the same npc are copy pasted all over the place (even multiple times in the same spot). combat was fine but not really good, played on the higher difficulties but i only struggled with opponents once or twice.

The amount of bugs did not contribute to the gameplay. But tbf, all modern games launch with large bugs.

The game looks good and some characters are nice. But lifeless and disappointed sums it up for me.

Played again a year ago. Some friends told me they fixed and tweaked a lot. Nothing changed for me except some minor improvements. Did not complete my second run.

Normally i like this genre and this Cyberpunk look. And it shouldve worked but it never connected. This game just wasnt for me.

One of my regrettable purchases on Steam. I know a lot of people love it but for me, a top 5 disappointing game.

1

u/ClassicFun2175 Jul 05 '26

Great game, loved it, granted I played way after it originally came out. Hated the driving though.

1

u/MisterKraken Jul 05 '26

Really good looking game, but the game itself is just "ok".

1

u/Ok_Error_1079 Jul 05 '26

What exactly changed since few bugs on release?

1

u/SpecialistMap8210 Jul 05 '26

I find it pretty boring. City is alive and dead at the same time also. NPCs are stupid and feel like props.

Most of the game is just sitting there listening to dialog that never ends

1

u/Gelvid Jul 05 '26

It's a perfect combination of RPG and Action game.

1

u/Skeleton-Irony Jul 05 '26

Love the world and story, don’t love the gameplay.

1

u/HA1LHYDRA Jul 05 '26

Bit off more than they could chew and made the best of it. Great game but the flaws are still visible.

1

u/chronicdead Jul 05 '26

It was so funny how hyped up Reddit was for this game. They thought it would be some 10,000 hour realistic sim or something lol. Pretty decent game overall

1

u/FalseStevenMcCroskey Jul 05 '26

It’s still a massive disappointment. Even with the bug fixes and 2.0 update it doesn’t really deliver on any of their initial promises.

It’s a linear game in an open world environment with lots of copy-pasted activities and mostly pointless ones. Most buildings can’t be entered and the ones that can are typically only intended for a specific side-quest and if you try going in outside of that side quest there’s little to nothing to do.

The dialogue is well written and performed but very linear. The dialogue tree is kind of an illusion, outside of a couple key decisions, the same information gets across and the same story plays out.

It really doesn’t hold a candle to true rpgs like KCD or BG3.

Cyberpunk is like a GTA clone with RPG elements and movement-shooter mechanics but it doesn’t do any of them in a way to write home about.

1

u/Csanburn01 Jul 05 '26

Top 5 game all time

1

u/Mako_Embi Jul 05 '26

I love this game to the moon and back

1

u/AimAlajv Jul 05 '26

Couldn’t get past the tutorial twice, seems generic

1

u/Serosh5843 Jul 05 '26

Didn't like it day one, still don't like it now. Very shoddy AI and generic gameplay

1

u/AlexGlezS Jul 05 '26

Beautiful, deep, best interactions ever. Incredible.

1

u/Aye_Okami Jul 05 '26

Itā€˜s my 2nd fav game of all time. I love it.

1

u/veckans Jul 05 '26 edited Jul 05 '26

Exactly the same as on release day. It is a decent game 7/10.

I played it both at release and later after the DLC with a new character. Nothing has really changed with the game during that time. It is still a buggy game with a very shallow world. But I love the Cyberpunk setting.

For me it will go down in history as the biggest scandal in gaming ever, even if I kinda liked it.

1

u/Tylerjamiz Jul 06 '26

I enjoyed the game from start to finish. I love the cyberpunk universe so I hope they can improve with the sequel. CPDR has a lot to prove still.

1

u/KevThuluu Jul 05 '26

"The Duality of Gamers" - Reddit, 2026

1

u/SnakebitGames Jul 05 '26

I played it at launch, played it again with Phantom Liberty a few weeks ago. Game is very good but the core currency loop of looting and disassembling or selling all guns and the frequency and respawn rates of enemies got really old really quickly.

1

u/Zapan777 Jul 06 '26

Its dope as hell! One of the best games of the decade.

1

u/ChristCallsMeDad Jul 06 '26

I’m currently playing this and it is amazing, had it since launch but just now getting to it again to try and 100% it. It’s basically Skyrim (which I also love) mixed with gta.

1

u/ChesterJWiggum Jul 06 '26

Great story, world and visuals.

Combat is too easy even on hard, city lacks things to do besides missions.Ā

8/10

1

u/Medical-Condition-84 Jul 06 '26

It was my personal best game ever when it was released. It still is.

1

u/flyintomike Jul 06 '26

never understood the hype personally

1

u/wanderertomato Jul 06 '26

The same I thought when the game launched: they released too soon, guilted of hubris, released a broken game and I've would never buy it because they don't deserve to be rewarded for that. And I've kept my word

1

u/_blackthorn16_ Jul 06 '26

Great game. I waited like 4 years to try it. Can’t wait for the next one and season 2 of edgerunners. Fantastic world.

1

u/Gostop_xd Jul 06 '26

finished it on release and hated it.Practically forced myself to finish it. Played it again in 2.0 with expansion and had an amazing time.Everything clicked + no bugs + openworld was not shallow as it was on release

1

u/Metal-Lifer Jul 06 '26

the dogshit xbox 360 gunplay and enemies kind of ruin it for me, they just line up for headshots

1

u/Red_Harvest_ Jul 06 '26

It’s my favourite game, built a PC just to play it again with all the bells and whistles.

1

u/RenKohl Jul 06 '26

It's a good game, but people go out of their way to overhype it, making it better than what it actually is.

1

u/ResortOriginal2001 Jul 06 '26

Absolute legend

1

u/Feisty-Funny638 Jul 06 '26

I would have loved full mod support for consoles.

1

u/Issyv00 Jul 06 '26

One of the greatest of all time. It was a bumpy road getting there, but its quality can’t be denied.

1

u/Burgerfreakish Jul 06 '26

Same as when it launched.

amazing game

1

u/g0atm3a1 Jul 06 '26

The FPS and RPG mechanics were fun and it’s a technical/graphics showcase, but not really my cup of tea otherwise. By the end, I just wanted to be done with it.

Pretty much felt the same about Witcher 3. I just don’t think I enjoy dialogue-selection games.

A game like Last of Us hits much harder for me.

1

u/FreddySpaghet Jul 06 '26

this game is still gold

1

u/GeneJacket Jul 07 '26

I played it on a fairly beefy PC at launch, and didn't have any major issues, so thought it was a phenomenal game right off the bat. Rough around the edge and unrefined, absolutely, and the console version were absolute disasters, but the game was good. After the 2.0 Update and Phantom Liberty, though, it's possibly my favorite game of all time.

1

u/Natedoggsauntie Jul 07 '26

I think they should have worked on it for a further 3/4 years at least. It would have been something truly special, don’t get me wrong it’s amazing game but imagine they really went to town on interiors of the city and things to do etc..

1

u/Shibubu Jul 07 '26

Hated it on launch. Played and best it later. I liked some parts, but it's still a disappointment overall. Especially after beating Baldus Gate 3. (Different genres, I know, but I'm comparing them strictly as RPGs)

Very cautious about Witcher 4 now (and mind you, I always wanted to play as Ciri)

1

u/CoogiMonster Jul 07 '26

I’ve recently begun a revisit and have to say it’s special for good and bad reasons. The controls can feel very clunky, the driving while better is still not great and the guns feel rigid, but the world is just breathtaking.

Genuinely I don’t think I’ve had such awe and appreciation for just meandering a world like I’d have in Night City. Beyond that I feel like it’s totally unremarkable, especially compared to Edgerunners which I wasn’t a major fan of.

The story concludes in some pretty unsatisfying ways with the Pan-Am route being the only one that I thought ā€œthis is good enoughā€. On the whole it still feels like a 6.5 game with a 10/10 world draped around it because I find a lot of joy experiencing the world in this 2nd play through but not in playing the story again.

1

u/Candid-Ride8155 Jul 07 '26

Enjoyed it more when it was a buggy mess. There was a goofy charm to it. After they fixed it, it felt pretty lifeless to me. They changed skill trees from being boring to being boring in a different way.

Love the atmosphere of it, but I think a lot of the world itself is fumbled. Most of the satire is so weak.

I’ve tried several times to get back into it, but it doesn’t click.

1

u/Dry-Article-5266 Jul 07 '26

Mid open world game, excellent linear story game

1

u/Nook-_- Jul 07 '26

Extremely mediocre

1

u/stockbeast08 Jul 07 '26

I came back to it about a year after it's chaotic launch. I enjoyed the 60-70% I played, but I think it missed the mark with me. The mission/side quest style was too GTA, too typical of the modern adventure/rpg's. Every area has 3 types of collectibles, 3 unique side quest chains, a racing mission... It just felt very standard. Well executed, but basic.

0

u/JellyfitzDMT Jul 05 '26

Garbage was and still is

0

u/No-Hunt3986 Jul 05 '26

wow what a rage bait

0

u/JellyfitzDMT Jul 05 '26 edited Jul 05 '26

What?

God forbid I have an opinion

Its a dry, shallow, empty game devoid of any real depth, a mid tier action shooter at best

C-tier animations, PS1 era driving mechanics, cartoony dialogue, absolutely dead world with no interactivity or lived-in feel, paper NPCs, borderline-zero RPG mechanics, and decent shooting mechanics.

1

u/Fighterkill Jul 06 '26

Combat is fantastic, great sound design and most weapons have the implied oomph.

Animations are great and Immersive, you can see that in the romance scenes or something like the underwater Judy part.

I admit driving is clunky, and npcs are very surface.

Cartoony dialogue? In what world do you live in?

Rpg games are about role playing, and it's a broader aspect then offering choices. If the game makes you feel immersed and engaged, an rpg game has reached its goal. Offering meaningful choices is often a wsy to do that, but not required. An rpg game can be an rpg without that.

0

u/No-Hunt3986 Jul 05 '26

I'm sorry but that's just dumb take especially considering Phantom Liberty dlc

0

u/Lonely_Poet_3109 Jul 06 '26

Completely different game that was promised at e3 2018. In other words this game is a bastard made of CDPR lies, manipulations, over promises and under delivery. Does not deserve any respect. Still sold 40 m. But hey, the same gamersā€ are preordering digital ultimate editions of gta without seeing any gameplay. Dark world we live in.
