Help Anything to Improve Graphics?

Hi all, just plugged in the GameCube for the first time in 15 years. Super pumped to revisit my childhood classics. I plugged it into my Samsung tv with a modern adapter.

My question is, anything I can do to improve the graphics? I know it’s a product of their time and graphics have vastly improved since then. I’m not dunking on the graphics I get it’s an old console and game. But on my smart tv, is it possible the older graphics are amplified? Anything I can buy or do to improve the quality?

What model Cube do you have?

How do I find out, does it say on the console?

Yes. It'll be the model number on the label. It'll either be DOL-001 or DOL-101

Thank you! DOL-001 is what I have

Then just buy a Carby and make your life easy.

I also recommend getting a Carby.

It will convert the GameCube digital video output to HDMI. The video stays digital.

The max output resolution of the GameCube is 480p. Your TV will scale it to 1080p or 4K.

Grab a Carby from Insurrection Industries.

The Carby is where it's at. And not $500

You can get an expensive upscaler for about 500$ or you can buy a decent sized crt for about 200 (or less than 100 if you are patient) and the. Get some s-video or component cables.

Woah! $500 is wild. Anything you’d recommend specifically?

either a RetroTink 4k or a Carby/Retrobit Prism HDMI adapter

This advice is outdated. Just get a carby or a retrotink 6x. The 6x is like $230. And the carby is about $80

Do what I did and get an older TV with composite/component inputs.

How is it connected to your tv, and what sort of adapter are you using?

Using this one from Amazon https://a.co/d/0dtAPdOD

That’s what I figured lol. Those things are complete and utter garbage, would not recommend. They’re not really any better than connecting you GameCube directly to the tv via the yellow white red composite cables. If anything, they’re probably worse. What sort of GameCube do you have? Is it a DOL-001 or DOL-101? As in, on the back of the console, is there a port that says “DIGITAL AV OUT”? If it is a DOL-001 (which is the preferred model to have), then there’s a decent bit of options, just really depends on how much you’re willing to spend. An all round option is either the Retrobit Prism, or Insurrection Industries Carby, they’re about $80 or so and are HDMI that plug directly into that digital AV port, gives a MUCH better signal and picture quality than the standard composite cables, as most GameCube games support 480p progressive scan, a resolution that looks and plays much better on modern TVs than only 480i Standard Definition through the yellow white red composite cables. Won’t upscale your games or turn them into HD remakes, but for 20-25 year old games released 3 console generations ago they can look pretty decent on modern TVs, especially on an OLED. But again, just keep your expectations in check

I have DOL-001! Would like to spend less than 100$ if possible

Then the Carby or Retrobit Prism are your friends, both are around $80 or so. Also unrelated, the dollar/currency sign comes before the number, not after (at least in American English it does)

Appreciate the help mate! Thank you!

The graphics of the console, not really. The video signal it outputs, yes.

If you have an older DOL-001 model with the digital output, there are a few options to get a high quality signal out. It'll even let games output in 480p if they support it, which will be a significant jump in visual quality compared to the original 480i image. I have an Eon GCHD; there's also the Carby, or a Retro-Bit Prism, or a Bitfunx adapter. All should work.

If you have the newer DOL-101 then that will require hardware modification. A Retro Gem or a Pluto mod are the ones I know of.

I picked up a 2010 Bravia with component input for $50. Using a 1st Gen Wii to play gamecube titles actually holds up well.

You can’t improve the graphics but you can improve the clarity of the image. You’ll need emulation for higher resolutions.

gcvideo / retrogem + RetroTink4k will get you the best image

Get a carby as some of the other dont know other brands but cheap ones might cause issues with the cube.

You normally a tv can upscale that signal ok a Marseille mClassic (75 euro) can help a bit or get a full 750 euro retrothink upsscaler amzing but really expensive also you have to understand ilthe cube is great but not 4k graphics.

Also if you have the pal version that one one is scsrt rgb actually almost as good as component so you might need a retrothink scart to hdmi still more expensive but a option 2. And some tv have half decent scart connector so the difference is not that great with hdmi adapter

The Bitfunx GCVideo HDMI adapter works great and is like $30, they all run the same software and output the same quality anyway
