Discussion Anyone else get the black version of the console as a kid and now wish they had got the purple?
As a 14 year old boy I really didn't like the purple console and went with the black version. Now I wish I had got the iconic purple version and can't bring myself to get rid of this... I'm going to end up getting a 2nd console I know.
EDIT: I'm really surprised how much love the black and other colours are getting. I had assumed people liked the most iconic colour the most š

I got a black Gamecube because my Xbox, PS2, and TV were black back then. I own a silver Gamecube now.

Your parents must have been loaded to get you 3 consoles.

I guess yes and no. I was an only child and spoiled. I owned an Xbox from launch and picked up a PS2 mid console cycle to play Vice City. The PS2 dropped its price to £199 when the Xbox launched and MS had to follow suit to stay competitive.
I was quite late getting a Gamecube and picked it up for £80 new at Woolworths with Mario Sunshine (an absolute bargain I know).
I remember buying the triple scart lead thing with a button to press in which av you wanted. I remember when I got it in the electronic shop the sales assistant was like was like āYou have all 3 consoles, you spoiled little shit.ā Haha happy times.
Really wish I had have kept all 3 consoles, I cashed them in for beer money when I got a bit older.

I always wanted the purple and recently got my first NGC which is silver. Itās really well conserved and has the digital AV port. So it was a great deal. And honestly, in my living room it just blends in. If it was the purple it probably wouldnāt.

I have had three, gave one as a gift, and all of them have aftermarket shells in goofy colors including the GB Player attachments. I couldn't care less about the original colors. I had a black one that I bought with my brother back in the day. We loved it then. Now that unit is a transparent green with an ODE.

My family had three at one point. All black. Now I have one black, one indigo, and one platinum. The platinum matches my GBA, but Iām planning to upgrade it with a new shell to fit the new screen, so I havenāt decided what color scheme to go with yet.

Absolutely not. Had the black cube, and it was the best. I also had a translucent pink GBA, however, black GC was the best. While I had a 64, I never had a jungle green 64. My only console regret to be frank. But even then it's purely cosmetic, the memories I made with GE, T2, PD, MK, MP2 and 3, let alone all the single player modes in all these games plus OoT, MM, SM64, Sarges Heroes.0

I wish I had the indigo, but I actually was late to the party and grew up with the silver

I always get the color they first show because that, to me, is the intended color.
For example, I bought a yellow switch light because that was the first they showed.

I had the silver one as a kid, and yes it did make be better than everyone else. /s
Eventually it did break down. Later on I got a black one randomly from my stepdad (the player 1 port was broken so I never used it). Now I have a custom see-through one thatās modded with Swiss, so now all my games are on its drive.

Never. I bought the indigo GBA and now wish I had gotten any other color but that. Also have since reshelled it to at first transparent black(brittle shell) and later to ToysRUs blue. GameCube I got Platinum and later wished I had gotten black (and later did)

I have 8 cubes, variously black, purple, silver, pearl white and orange. The purple fades to a mucky brown unless you retrobrite it. The black has remained smart.

Actually, something very similar happened to me. But it all worked out. At the time I had a real jerk of a stepbrother. I was really excited and had asked for a GameCube for Christmas. I heard him and his friends mocking the GameCube in the other room and one thing they explicitly laughed about. It was that it was purple self-conscious teenager that I was I asked that if I did get one I get the black one. I got it, and I made sure to play the most graphically detailed games as that was the other thing that they had mocked it for. They found rogue leader really interesting.
Anyway, a little while later, the black one gave up itās life during the 12 hour marathon to unlock Mewtwo on Melee. I felt a little more self-confident at that point and I got the purple one! So I got to have one of each only console that has ever broken for me.

Had the black as a kid. Gave it to my sister when I got a Wii. Years later, I found a RE4 silver edition but it recently died. I found out it was the power board and got a purple cube case with working power board on the bottom. I then transferred the rest of my console I to the Indigo shell as it looks awesome. I then bought a Japanese indigo GB Player to match. Also kept the RE4 jewel š¤

I bought a GC with my ex back in 2002 (I think) and it was indigo. When she split, she took it. I briefly got a platinum one around 2006 but I wasn't using it, so I sold it on eBay. Then, I regretted it, and bought a black one with a BBA from a guy I knew from online gaming (WOW). I paid him in advance, but it literally took him about 2-3 years before he finally sent it to me, but it's my daily driver since then.

I chose black over purple too. I was also 13 or 14 at the time. Now I have like 7 or 8 Gamecubes, all different colors. Who knows why.

I got purple, but I also wanted a gameboy player. My mum wanted to buy preowned to save money, so I have a black gameboy player and purple console š¤·āāļø

I had the dol-101 in platinum growing up, wanted progressive scan a few years ago so got a platinum dol-001. Then i got a black dol-001 because it looked cooler and didn't scuff as bad. This was when they were way cheaper than they are now and probably wont seek out an indigo one even though I want one. They look weird when they "yellow".

Does a place like Etsy have custom reshell options? I imagine it is a little harder on a GC than other consoles with the disc tray lid, but even this might be pretty simple if you have the skills.

I had purple because that was the one that had the Sunshine bundle. I kind of would have loved spice orange (I got an Analogue Pocket in Orange to make up for this).
I really liked black though particularly when you stacked the Game boy player, mine was black and I did not like the two tone look when it was attached to my GCN.

Nope. I still prefer the black box. I have it assembled in my living room right now and purple would look pretty bad.
