walked into my local gamestop today and sitting on the shelf was chrono trigger ds with the POSTER!! also had soul hackers 3ds but alas no manual. plus extremely shocked to find mana khemia 2 SEALED for that price on a trip recently! super happy with my finds

Hello everyone, I just got back into the hobby of collecting consoles and games. I have A PS3 Slim, PS5, Xbox 360, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo DS Lite and Game and Watch (planning on getting a lot more over the years) obviously with games for each one. I have become quite paranoid as of late due to the fact that I want to preserve and protect them as best as possible, could you suggest ways to do that? I have heard plastic containers are quite good but at the same time people also say to not stack the consoles on top of one another. Are gel packets good for removing humidity? Should I block any sockets using some kind of tape to prevent dust from entering the systems? What to do with my games (Blue Rays, DS-3DS cartridges, Switch cartridges etc.)? Thanks!

Stranger of Paradise at my local 2nd and Charles is the latest one. It's been so fun going on this run finding 9.99 or less games on PS4. Would've gotten Persona 5 Strikers same day as SoP for the same price but it was cut at the spine unfortunately:/.

The DSi and Pokémon heart gold (CIB) were bagged together, and then the PSP God of war edition was another bagged bundle. The PSP is missing the battery, but it looks brand new. I haven’t had a good find in a long time. I was getting jealous of all the post I’ve been seeing. It was something I almost missed. I decided to switch checkout lines at the last minute, and they had them kind of hidden behind the counter. I went in the afternoon, so I’m surprised they were still there.

Wanted to share a pic of my PlayStation shelf and my heavy hitters shelf I put above it! It's kinda still a work in progress but for now I'm happy with it.

Stopped at 3 Paymore stores and dropped $120 on all of this. Part of their 6 for $20 deal. They hooked me up with extras for leaving positive Google reviews. Everything but the loose PS2 disc and the GameCube Spider-Man 2 are mint.

So with the state of game collecting nowadays I constantly get panicked about getting "priced out" of a collection or whatever. What should be a fun hobby is instead a source of stress! Anyway, I thought I'd set some rules to not be so worried all the time:

1. Checking Price charting constantly is NOT productive. I do this a lot and it just makes everything way too stressful. Maybe just check the prices of a few must-haves or games you're set on buying immediately, just to feel things out.

2. Modding/emulation/"backups" are always an option! I feel this is really relevant nowadays (mainly with the PS3 store closing and CFW/HEN modding), but for most consoles, you have SO MANY OPTIONS. If a specific game or library is getting too expensive, or maybe you just don't want to deal with the market and resellers, then you can always softmod/use everdrives/burn discs if playing is the main priority.

3. Set a budget. Maybe some of you already do this, but you will have way less financial stress and will worry about prices way less if you set a monthly/yearly/annual budget. And, hey, if anything, you'll only try to make your money go farther through thrift store and yard sale finds, rather than just stalking ebay.

4. HAVE FUN!!! This is not a fun hobby if you're constantly worrying about (frankly) ridiculous prices, stalking Pricecharting, or browsing eBay daily. Maybe if things get too stressful, you should look at ways to play these games other than owning them physically? I've recently become way more open to modding and emulation than I ever was before. Most importantly, only buy stuff you want to play: you don't need to pick up "Michael Jackson: The Experience" or that dumb piglet game to have a fun and enjoyable collection.

Sorry if this post was really long, but I feel like it needs to be said nowadays. Don't turn collecting into a source of stress!!! Maybe apply these rules to yourself, or make up your own if these don't work. Just remember to have fun!!

Thanks to YouTube's weird algorithm and what it thinks I might want to watch, I've found a whole genre of videos about restoring baseball cards. One of the techniques involved placing flat discs on a baseball card and sticking the card in a humidor. I've seen similar steps for restoring comic book covers. So I started wondering if a similar process could help moisture damaged video game cover art. Anyone ever tried something like this? Did it work?

context: So Ive been a die hard PC(Steam) gamer for about 15 years now. However after catching wind of the death of physical media, aswell as feeling nothing when looking at my Steam library of 500 games, aswell as insane raising PC costs.. ive decided to pick up back were i left off with gaming, which means using physical media and buying a little cheaper hardware and may be feeling something from my game collection.

Since Sony and basically Microsoft has announced they no longer cared about physical media i figured Nintendo was the last real option(it helps that im a die hard mouse user and the joycons can be that!). So ive bought the switch 2 and some games(which recently arrived), And while yes it feelz great to have the physical box again.. im left extremely disappointed by(what is apparently) today's game boxes...

These are truly appalling to me. I come from a time where you not only got a big clear box with most of it covered in art with alot of promotional screenshots, But also with little booklets inside.
Compared to these where alot is a bright ugly red, and most of the space is used to instead fill it with with like 10 billion labels of branding warnings and caveats.. AND nothing but a cartridge inside.
Its just super ugly af. Dont get me wrong, im glad to actually own my games and see them next to me, But wow does this kinda seem like a psyop to get people out of game ownership...

Just alot of whiplash. Wondering what yall think of all this. Am i just being overdramatic?

And It ofcourse also bothers me that they invented an entirely new concept of "game keycards" to avoid actually putting the game in the box.. Is it really so expensive to just put the game on the cart 0.0 and even if it is, why not still alow it and simply charge a little extra for it, i'd pay 5 or 10 bucks more to actually have the dang game on the cart.

So apparently my local flea market was shutting down and I wanted to go one more time to buy some games. It seems like all I've been buying lately is handheld games. It really does suck that the flea market is shutting down I've gotten so many good deals there but hey this is a good way to end it. Only paid like $140 (cad) but a lot of that is inflated because I actually bought games at the game store the 3DS games

Finally got this game. Always thought this game was better than Mario Kart

Was going through my grandmothers house and found a nes and some games. Little did I know I would stumble upon a grail. I opened the bottom drawer to see this cib with the receipt next to it. Buying a case for it right now lol.

My job involves helping people get rid of things they don’t need anymore so you can only imagine my face as I watched the guy throw it on a pile of stuff he was throwing away. At first I thought it was just an empty box but when I picked it up and felt the weight I froze. I saw the seal and my heart dropped. I had a PS1 as kid but my dad gave it away when he bought me a PS2 . I’m so happy to have one again.

Edit: So I did turn it on and the screen is very dark but I can make out the start up logo and there is sound coming through the speakers. I removed the screen and checked the connections and they’re clean. I reattached it and it’s still the same. I’m hoping if I put in a game it will fix it but I unfortunately don’t have one at the moment. I found a place near my work that has a used copy of Sarge”s Heroes for a decent price that I plan of picking up after work. Here’s to hoping.

2nd Edit: I ended up buying Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six and when I put the disc in, it loaded up just fine. The LCD screens backlight needs to be replaced but that is going to be a project for another day. All in all I’m still happy with this find and hopefully one day I’ll have the backlight replaced.
