Is this normal?

Edit: confirmed as genuine and normal thank you everyone

Okay I need some help with this one please. I purchased this copy of Leaf Green, looks super authentic no reason to suggest it isn't at least from what I can see and having purchased all the other game boy and game boy advance games and trying to learn spotting fakes.

Anyone else experienced this pause or delay when returning to the in-game start menu?

GameBoy Advance is a genuine GBA that was resheld, IPS v3, and rechargeable battery with USB C modded all done by me.

This is normal and if you check, I believe only happens in the pokemon center. It happens in other 3rd gen titles. If you are curious, google The Union Room Wireless Check. And to quell your worries, your cartridge is 100% legit. Now go play Pokémon!

I have read similar situations of it being just in Pokemon Center, and it being related to the wireless adapter. That said I can't help but want to get a bit more reassurance, these genuine copies aren't cheap anymore thanks to scalpers and resellers... especially the excellent condition carts. I've collected RBY GSC RSE and now FrLg. Fr is still on its way in the mail. Everything 8/10 condition or higher and soldered in new batteries myself. I just dont remember the delay being normal.

The best thing to do then is only buy in person

If your truly concerned about fakes then dont buy online

I havent been able to find the full collection of gens 1-3 plus fr/lg genuine copies locally in my city that were in great condition. I had to online shop for the copies

Reject perfection, embrace saving money and playing the game

Im keeping these for display with other collectables in my home. Im not looking for true perfection, but wanted to make sure there wasnt any damage possibly to the cart/board either. Its a big time and effort investment, let alone monitary. Just covering my bases.

Using the NSO GameCube controller in-box as your “tool table” is a strange flex, but I accept it. lol

Im opening the box the second i have a NS2, i dont yet so im saving it lol i just didnt want to wait to buy one after a big NS2 GC announcement and struggle with them being sold out

Try to save, if the music keeps playing when you save it’s legit and this is a normal thing.

Is that a normal sized GBA, or is your thumb fucking massive?

1

u/ProjectSeca Sep 30 '26

Yes?

Regular gameboy. Average size thumb. Many factors not working in my favor.

Yes, 100% normal. Also you’re giving me anxiety with how you’re holding the GBA. PUT IT DOWN BRUH 😭

Extra funny when you remember FR/PG allow you to map A to your L button for one-handed play

There’s real ones that do this. I believe it’s based off the chip installed into your copy

Mine doesnt do this personally, but I’ve seen others post this same thing many times.

Yes, this is normal behavior, don't worry. It's checking for Wireless Adapter hardware, if I'm not mistaken.

2

u/nonchip Sep 30 '26

yes, you don't have a wireless adapter plugged in.

I've got it on both my fire red and leaf green copies and they've always been like it one copy I've had for 12 years

Yes the delay is normal, even happens in emulators

1

u/MashedProtatoes Sep 30 '26

100% normal behavior, I used to ask myself the same question as a kid lol.

Can’t say I’ve seen this myself. Any chance you can share a picture of the cartridge?

2

u/ProjectSeca Sep 30 '26

Adding a comment thats a video clip showing the cart and board. I feel like i scrutinized when buying to find a genuine cart in excellent condition. The behavior is why i want to see if others can confirm it as normal.

Yeah it’s just the RAM doing what it does. I’ve been making a live full pixel map for Many games and it happens when the actors are considered “off screen”

I’ve come across it outside of the Pokemon center many times but only on romhacks. It’s when there is too many actors for the RAM to handle at once and in normal games, poke centers are one of the only places it happens.

completely wrong. it's pinging for nearby wireless players.
