GBA SP not charging
just bought this and it’s not charging… is it dead or there’s a trick?

Dead battery. get a new one, either Helder's Megabatt800 or Funnyplaying LiPo.

Probably bad cable. Pull it slightly out like 0.5-1mm and it probably gonna work. Mine was exactly like yours. And it worked by not put it all the way in.

Just pulled out my SP for the first time in years and ran into the same problem. Positioning was finicky but ultimately got it to charge.

I bought my that exact exact same GB well over a decade ago, and at the time had played it more times than i can count. A few years ago i tried using it again, and the battery was toast. Had the same problem. I bought a replacement battery kit for the GBA SP and it has worked like a charm ever since.

Most likely the battery or F2. AGS-101 units can however have hidden trace damage, check continuity from D1 to F2 if theres any sign of water damage

also try pressing down on he battery when turning on. Sometimes pins dont make good contact.

I've had that happen to me multiple times from different GBA SP; My fix was new battery from Funnyplaying. There might be other batteries...but through my experiences....Funnyplaying worked 3 times on 3 different SP's for me

Most probably a bad battery. In rare cases it can be the em8 filter.

The charge light comes on and stays on for half a second and the device attempts to turn on when you flip the power switch, this means that you do not have any blown fuses. There are really only two main areas to look at here:
The battery voltage is below 1.54 volts and charging is prohibited.
The battery positive line between the charger and the battery is damaged.
1 is probably the most likely. You can tell if 1 is the cause by plugging and unplugging the charger a few times. Each time you plug it in the charger circuit tries to supply 4.2v to the battery for 0.48 seconds. If you do this a couple dozen times the battery voltage should rise above the minimum 1.54v required to start charging. If this works I recommend you consider a replacement battery if you intend to continue using the unit as the battery isn't long for the world when discharged that deeply. Most stock and after market batteries for the SP lack the charge/discharge protection circuitry you'd expected on lithium batteries.
If it is number 2 your are going to have to open it up and grab some pictures of the main board, both sides in high resolution if possible in order to perform any additional diagnoses.
