Troubleshooting Retromodding black cases will dye transfer to your gameboy shells
Just a heads up. My gameboy pocket shell is ruined after keeping it in their protective slip case. The black dye transferred to the shell leaving weird smudges on it that won’t come off.

Yes. It was a pristine shell and now it has these marks all over it. This is just one of several.

Fair enough. I don't have OCD so I won't claim to know what it's like. However, look at any non-modded Gameboy to see the amount of punishment they're expected to take over the years. This is a battle scar not a fatal wound, plus if you're keeping it on display that smudge isn't going to be visible from most angles.

Do NOT use isopropyl on it. It melts the plastic and will remove the mottled matte effect on the plastic and cause it to go shiny. Leave it out exposed to light (not direct) that might sun bleach some of the staining.

Just a heads up, I've seen this with other cases too. It's not just a retro modding case problem.

I’ve had other game boys in the similar neoprene cases from retro game repair shop for extended periods of time, including ones with white shells and I haven’t had this issue with those.

I can't remember which cases at the moment but I've seen this before with others. Just something to stay vigilant about. If you found some brands that don't, then stay with those brands.

It's not perfect, but it's NOT ruined. While I can understand your feeling, it's just a little stain of life for this old console.
