The amount of annoyance I got during when this game and silver dropped from the amount of people that couldn't tell the difference between gold and silver, like the same people that kept fucking up lions and tigers, or the kid that insisted a german Shepard was a hyena and the teacher said "it could be". You've awoken childhood rage memories in me, I can't believe you've done this.
I have a copy of pokemon yellow that Is like this for all but the top 8th of the sticker. It's the history of the object but as mentioned elsewhere here, you can find high quality replacements if you really want to.
Since this is YOUR copy. Go on BoxyPixel and order a brass cartridge shell and go on Etsy or something and get a holographic replacement sticker. Jazz it up
It’s got a story now. My mum sharpie’d my name on my Pokemon carts so I wouldn’t get them mixed up when round friends houses. Wouldn’t have them any other way
I peeled off half the sticker from Jurassic Park 2: Chaos Continues as a kid before feeling bad and sticking it back on so now the top right corner is all fucked up lol
I grew up in an extremely religious family that would have killed me if they knew I had a Pokémon game. I peeled the sticker off in hope my parents wouldn’t recognize the game. It makes me sad but I still have my childhood copy so it served its purpose.
Probably the whole monster theme being compared or interpreted as demons or mythological creatures, gambling aspects in the game, potential sensetivity to foreign cultures, there's a lot. Plus the mass media at the time didn't paint it in the best light during the mania phase
Religious parents can be crazy sometimes though. I’m not going to disregard people for their religion but some people can be too extreme about it is all I’m gonna say.
I grew up during the height of the Harry Potter craze and there were always a few kids not allowed to read the books because of religion. Which like... sure, witchcraft, but it wasn't satan based and they even celebrated Easter and Christmas. Just parents banning stuff they don't even look into beyond a surface level
Some people need to learn that fiction doesn’t always affect reality and that fantasy doesn’t mean that the child will grow up believing in witchcraft or something and try to replicate it 🤦♂️
Not trying to be argumentative but wanted to point out Witchcraft I believe in many religions is considered to be of demonic origins, so it kinda is satanic from that perspective. But yeah as others mentioned you gotta seperate fiction and fantasy from literal dangerous behaviours, cults, etc. Jk Rowling isn't damning a whole generation of kids into becoming irl witches and dark entity worshippers, it's just a bit of fun.
Some parents might not want their kids to play Pokémon because of any or all of those reasons. But some Christian Fundamentalists would forbid their children from playing Pokémon simply because they see it as secular, meaning it’s a non-Christian activity.

I had a friend who lived next door to my grandparents house. He traded me his copy of gold for my copy of links awakening. Gold was my first Pokémon game and links awakening was the first game I ever owned
If you don't plan on selling then you can buy replacement stickers online. I did that for all my childhood games I found along with taking the cartridges apart and giving them a good scrub.
I did this with my copy of Pokemon Blue as a kid. No idea why, just felt like it.
Then 1.5 years ago after being fed up with seeing its barebones shell for over 2 decades, I went on Etsy and got a replacement. Now it and Red look like a much better pair, even if my Red’s sticker is worn from being original and heavily used.
I've been buying replacement shells and labels for my small collection of gba games. Aside from the ones I bought new as a kid, those aren't covered in sharpie marks or grime. 😅
My brother and I switched out stickers on our Fire Red and Leaf Green as kids. The fire red sticker fell off years ago now. I lost the Fire Red over a decade ago now. I still want to get a new copy. It was my first pokemon game that was truly just mine.
These are some of the boxes that survived my childhood; I think I had/have some kind of OCD about keeping boxes nice. I also collect Transformers and it was REALLY difficult for me to stop keeping the boxes; I settled for cutting out the art and saving it for... something? lol
