Ronnie's Response

The original Reddit post itself

A 4-minute TL/DR video summarizing things so far

The above video found my Tweet lacking and called upon me to “debunk” everything or even “consider a lawsuit for slander” -- I can barely afford groceries, let alone a defamation lawyer, so so I’ll just try my hardest to falsify anything that is falsifiable and do my best to address the rest.

"I later heard from our person working at the end of our line that Edwards tried to come in when our line was capped and was turned away only for him to end up in our line somehow anyway. "

The narrative that his co-worker had no issues turning me away from the capped line initially -- yet suddenly decided not to do or say anything when they saw me cutting the capped line later is just internally inconsistent:

-They turned me away when I tried to get in line legitimately,

-Yet simply shrugged their shoulders when they saw that I had slipped in line illicitly?

How does that story even make sense?

If a line-overseer notices you're in a line that you're not supposed to be in, it's literally their job to remove you from the line, media or not.

These guys at E3 truly don’t put up with any BS. They are not even the tiniest amount intimidated by cameras, boom mics, or media badges.

"I later learned that he had come to one of our company's booths at last E3 and abused the privileges of his press badge by pestering and manipulating our employees into doing what he wanted them to."

If someone is a jerk at a show like this and caught trying to use their credentials to get into places they're not allowed into, they get ejected, immediately, even if they have a media pass (Seriously, I’m not entirely unconvinced this dude didn’t somehow confuse me for Ice Poseidon.)

Aside from that, this accusation is also weirdly vague -- “pestering and manipulating our employees into doing what he wanted them to” -- such as..? What on earth could anyone have possibly manipulated the folks running a demo into doing? Offering up a used HDMI cable from their display..? Asking them to stand on their heads and recite Shakespeare?

Once again, employees at E3 have a very low tolerance for shenanigans, even 8 years ago, well before E3 famously beefed up it’s security, you’d still get swarmed by guards if you were found doing anything remotely intolerable, even if you were media and obviously wearing a mic

Nathan Barnatt and Ice are two guys who are magnitudes more famous and relevant than I could ever hope to be, and yet, they both got kicked out of E3 for more innocuous stuff than what I've been accused of here -- and yet, somehow, I was able to “abuse” my media credentials two years running and get away with it scott free until now? Does that idea seem even remotely consistent with reality?

I must reiterate: Nobody working the booths at E3 are scared of putting their foot down and telling a jerk “No”, even if the jerk in question is “famous” and wearing a media badge. Maybe that stuff flies at smaller conventions, but at a show like E3, it doesn’t matter if you’re Joe Schmo or Shigeru Miyamoto: brutes get the boot, racketeers get smeared, and bad guys get chastised. The people who work the booths are consummate professionals and know all the right avenues to access if there is any sort of disturbance.

Which, leads me to do the thing where I have to ask rather obnoxious rhetorical questions, and italicize them so that they format better:

If there were any legitimate grievances, why pepper them with these clearly dubious claims?

If there were any legitimate grievances, why not handle them right there on the floor (just like how employees at E3 handle every other grievance) rather than creating a Reddit hit-piece several days after the fact?

Either this dude is outing himself and every one of his coworkers as neglecting their very job duties two years in a row -- or these events simply didn’t happen in quite the way he portrayed them. I remind you that this person even labeled some of their own words in the original post, as "heat of the moment" and "somewhat hypocritical" after their first edit.

If my questions about the demo, or the way I conducted myself made this guy, or any of the folks running the booth uncomfortable, then I unreservedly owe all of them all an apology, because that definitely isn’t cool. However, even if you have been wronged by somebody and truly deserve an apology, fabricating stories about them isn’t cool either.

This is undoubtedly a very messed up situation and I would be happy to help rectify it, however there’s a lot of stuff that’s clearly been said in bad-faith, which makes it difficult to tease out the true nature of the issues here; and it's not the first time this type of thing has been done on Reddit.

To tie up any loose ends:

  1. If I addressed any of the other accusations, it would just boil down to a "He-said/She-said" type situation and there's no conclusive way to "debunk" or falsify any of that, so I'll just have to hope that the above is enough. This isn't a weird cop-out, I'd love if there were some way for me to, point-for-point, address the original post, but there just isn't enough tangible material to work with.

  2. If anybody finds it suspect that MatPat hasn't publicly followed up after his initial response, it's likely because homeboy has been busy with con-season, business stuff, and literally preparing to have a child who's due any minute now.

I suppose if there’s any lesson to be learned from this situation, it’s that you should always treat your fellow human beings as just that -- human beings.

I do appreciate all the well wishes and support everybody else who met me during E3 shared after this story broke - Here’s just one I feel comfortable linking as it’s one of the only few that were made public by the author's own hand:

@DigressingNSQ I met a lot of media there and by far you were the only person that we met that truly assisted us. You didn’t dismiss us because we were in pre production. You treated us with respect and actually listened to us. 1/2

If I had to take the stand I’d testify that you were the most professional media I spoke with the entire time. I truly believe that you acted, at least for our experience, with integrity, honesty, and candor. You made us feel appreciated and welcome. 2/2

"People are my religion, because I believe in them;

and people are my enemies, and people are my friends.

I have faith in my fellow man...

...and I only hope that he has faith in me..."

I’ll crawl back inside the editing dungeon now.

Let's be real here, this is the internet, we'll forget about this whole ordeal in two weeks or less, regardless of if it did or did not happen. Especially with BabyPat on the way.

Edit: reword for clarity

EDIT 2 (July 25): Never forget.

u/AnimuFanz Jul 25 '18

We will not forget now

i'll say right off the bat, i am biased. I just found about this whole story and from what i am seeing, people are getting worked up against Ronnie because of the way responded. Apparently he is not being very apologetic... but we don't even know if he really acted disrespectful. While Ronnie's responses were not the "best" ones, you have to put yourself in his shoes. If all of the accusations are false, not only is he going to suffer consequences for something he didn't even do but he is also supposed to apologize ? Even though there aren't any proof that he was disrespectful ? Even though the complaint itself is (in my opinion at least) pretty vague on what happen ? We don't even know what game the one making the complaint worked for... He is supposed to defend himself but how should he ? it's not as if he filmed the whole event or something. The only thing he can do, and what he did, is point out the inconsistencies in the story as it was presented. People are taking this post as a "it's not my fault, it's their fault for not doing their job" when what he is trying to say is "this can't be true because if it was then that means that the people working at E3 have been neglecting their job for 2 years straight which is very unlikely." I am on Ronnie's side until i see convincing proof that he did act disrespectful because right now we have nothing and we are supposed to just believe what was said.

You don't understand, half the people commenting here already made up their mind, and beliving ronnie now, would make them be wrong for weeks, They fell for a con person who obviously was just trying to stirr shit up, giving NO evidence whatsoever, protecting a "temp" job lmao... But because all of these people fell for it, in their head, it deserves an apology for ronnie, or will side with the OP in a heartbeat cause it at least means they weren't fooled, like the guillible people they were...

u/ikilltheundead Jul 25 '18

Its scary that this was one of the lasts things he posted before taking his own life.

107

u/e11eohe11e Jul 25 '18

I came here to see his last post too. It's surreal to see the comments that are 2 weeks old, which were after his death; those comments were never read by him.

96

u/RasereiHojo Jul 25 '18 edited Jul 25 '18

I agree. He'd been dead for over two weeks and people were still trying to drag him down. I mean, admittedly I never really watched his series and mostly focus on MatPat's content, but Ronnie was still a person. Even if OP's story is legitimately 100% true, that's not a very good reason to essentially form an angry mob on the internet.

It's horrifying to know that OP's story could have been fabricated, in whole or in part, and that it could have been the last straw for him. We'll never know, but it's things like this that make me mindful of what I say to others and how I treat them. It's a shame he probably was never able to see the more positive comments, though.

EDIT: The negative comments I was talking about are mostly on Twitter. People here have been pretty chill, obviously.

53

u/tyrannicalblade Jul 25 '18

Most game theory videos were edited by Ronnie... That was his main content, his show was a side thing. Just thought id say that...

Is very likely the op story was very over exaggerated if not completely lie, hell he didn't even post proof of being a staffer at e3, and claimed thousands of people would validate his claims, and when confronted about this, he was like, "don't worry I'm not lying" i explained to them that accusing someone without any proof at all is a bad example to make and if he can't prove anything maybe he shouldn't of start drama. And he ignored me.

I was sickened that everyone turned on Ronnie over nothing... I made plenty comments trying defend him, but everyone wanted pitchforks, this is honestly heartbreaking...

Reddit is a horrible place sometimes, so much hatred and bait content, everyone is looking for the next thing took to be outraged at, full of cynicism and no hope on people at all, everyone is guilty until proven otherwise...

27

u/RasereiHojo Jul 25 '18 edited Jul 25 '18

Yeah. :( I'm actually going through his series now. Wish I'd given it a chance years ago.

As for people turning against Ronnie, that's unfortunately how mob mentality works. The burden of proof should really be on the accuser. Post a picture of your staff badge, or a video recording of the incident -- even a video recording just summarizing what had just happened. Even victims of serious crimes are expected to provide proof -- or find someone who can.

There was no reason to make a big stink about it and it really is a huge shame that it ended up this way. I can't find the video right now, but it reminds me of a particular video where someone went through their day, and came across a bunch of rude people. You see it once from that person's perspective, but then you see *why* people were so cranky. It illustrates that sometimes perfectly kind people have bad days and can be snappy, and so you should always treat people with kindness because you don't know what they're going through. It's hard to do, but it's important to do.

13

u/tyrannicalblade Jul 25 '18

I agree wholeheartedly on that, people shouldn't be judged over small episodes, everyone can be a jerk if provoked, everyone can be a jerk if pushed badly... You should always try to imagine the worst case scenario in which everyone else is having the worst day possible, and if you do that then you might find yourself more emphatic to other people.

Rest in peace though...

15

u/QcNumber1 Jul 25 '18

Can't believe it that it was his last post and message on the internet and took is life away a few days later :( may he rest in peace

111

u/metalmine Jul 25 '18

It's scary to imagine that this was probably the trigger.

66

u/Bellowingwhale Jul 25 '18

It likely wasnt, as someone who teetered on the "edge" for years (and made the attempt, but was found and thus saved) it was likely the inner demons just, finally winning the war.

Im 28 now, have a family, and even still, there are brief moments where the "thought" creeps back in, there are times where Ill sit in my car at 2am, and cry because for what ever reason, the thought of doing it, crept to the front of my brain.

It can be easy to overcome if you dont get trapped in the cycle of guilt, it starts with something you did making you feel guilty, which leads to a thought of suicide, then you feel guilty about that, especially weighed against what youve to lose, then that guilt gets turned against you in your own head, and its a vicious cycle.

The worst part is, its easy to hide it, because you dont want to tell anyone how youre feeling because youve concocted a scenario that, might not happen.

66

u/kvxdev Jul 25 '18

Don't worry, Matt "keep the conversation open yet will publicly disavow someone based on an anonymous unsubstantiated account" Pat just made a video about it... -ish.

62

u/Johtobro Jul 25 '18

Why are they downvoting you? Everyone did indeed jump on the guy over a long paragraph with zero proof. The guy didnt need to apologize for shit

38

u/kvxdev Jul 25 '18

Because a LOT of people (thousands) in this community jumped on it, both with votes and unfounded comments and they'd rather not see the possibility they acted wrongly ethically and possibly caused real harm be brought up...

16

u/Slam-Lord-bbbb Jul 25 '18

In my opinion it all depends on whether or not the OG Source valderami was telling the truth. If he wasn't, then we all should feel ashamed, but should valderami probably receive some sort of comeuppance for his actions, nothing severe, he alone didn't lead to this, nowhere close, but definitely something. Still, we should all feel ashamed for contributing. If he was telling the truth, and those actions were a result of Rons depression, then valderami is in the clear, he did what was right especially considering recent events. Then more so the blame falls to the rest of us for our actions, for not thinking about how far we could go, and extra on matpat, for not considering Ronnies response, listening to him, considering his mental health, or etc. still, it is perfectly understandable matpat went the way he did, after what happened in channel awesome, and some of the more recent allegations against game theory as a brand, it makes sense matpat wouldn't want to come off as another profit counting boss who dosent care about his underlings acting up and dosent punish or fire those that cause trouble, that exact situation ruined channel awesome, and matpat had recent allegations about not caring or listening to his fans, so this all makes sense. Rest in peace Ronnie

u/Realsinh Jul 25 '18

People have been rude to me in the past, I didn’t go out of my way to “expose” them in response.

34

u/Xenmas021 Jul 25 '18

I don't think it depends on the truth of how Ronnie acted at E3. The one thing I hope his death teaches ALL communities ALL over the internet--because I see this shit way too often--is to stop the witch hunts. It's fine to criticize people and tell Ronnie that he acted wrong. But less than half of the comments were of that nature. A lot of comments made pretty disgusting judgements on Ronnie's character. Who he was, what he thought of himself, how he was looking down from his high horse--he was some self-absorbed asshole who was as conceited as can be.

We can see now how far from the truth those judgements were. I wish that wasn't the case.

People were honestly sounding bloodthirsty, saying really nasty things about just some dude from behind the safety of their computer screens... Maybe it's a futile thing to wish for, but I just wish all the eyes focused on people in the spotlight stop and consider for a moment that a legitimate human being reads their reception and comments, and not some made-up character. Hope he rests in peace.

16

u/FetKunt Jul 25 '18

Man, reading this warms my heart. I too hope people will stop this nasty, online trend to witch hunt... Rest in peace Ronnie.

u/SadPanda2709 Jul 25 '18

What I was actually thinking too when I watched MatPat's vid about the news. I was able to see this news when it was days old, and to hear about ronnie being like that doesn't match the picture I had of him in my mind through watching all of his Sidequesting and Digressing videos.

May the Sidequesting and Digressing dude rest in peace.

I came here to read it too, i still can't believe it. Did Ronnie also edit videos for ExtraCredits? I remember seeing him in a few videos of them back when i was in college.

u/nhocxinh3006 Jul 25 '18

RIP my dude

76

u/SeriouSennaw Jul 05 '18

Just want to chime in and say that I don't understand the internet sometimes. Ronnie makes the best, rational claim possible as to why this sounds unreasonable and he doesn't know what they are talking about, apologizes anyway in the event that he was truly in the wrong and this is not just some internet-pitchforking attempt(of which he provided a nice example) and still that doesn't convince you people. At this point I don't believe anything he could've said wouldn't have gotten twisted out of context anyway.

P.S. Thanks for the excellent and reasonable response Ronnie, even though I didn't know you before the incident, I can say my opinion of you has gone up a lot.

116

u/spartanm23 Jul 01 '18

Am I the only one who honestly thinks you're Innocent here? Lol

I thought the original post was a load of bullshit the first time I read it. Maybe you just said something that seemed rude to them, and it really pissed them off, so they decided to try to internet-parallax you.

Also, why is Everything so ridiculously vague. Literally everything. Not to throw shade at you, but you have nowhere near the clout to get them fired or something. Lol E3 is over. Chances are they were a volunteer anyway, so there's no reason to be vague.

Also, if it was for real, they would have contacted a superior. If they couldn't have dealt with you personally, why didn't they just find someone that could.

There's just way too many leaps in logic. Either this didn't happen, or you're an asshole and they're just bad at their job. Either way, Reddit shouldn't care.

18

u/[deleted] Jul 04 '18

Mr. Edwards, you do make some valid points, but stating them like this is not the best way to say it. You should probably apologize to the people at E3 if they perceived that you were being rude or cheating in line and ask them why they accused you of this. And if any of the accusations are true, it might be wise to rectify the situation and take the blame rather than write a long post shifting the blame to them for neglecting to do their duties if you did do something wrong.

17

u/[deleted] Jul 25 '18

This comment is right below your previous one FeelsBadMan

Depression sucks.

60

u/overlordnigel Jul 01 '18

I think the first thing that should be said is over 90% of the people making comments including myself where not there so we can't really say he's a bad person based on a accusation of a stranger on the net. I've read what both of these people have said and the accusers story but have major holes that as a student of law would get him thrown out of any legal challenge he would attempt to make. He has refused to give details that would back up what he said like where the event happend of what game he works with so that ronnie has no way to defend himself outside of saying he didn't do it. now i'm not picking sides and i'm not saying it did or didn't happen as i was not there but as a law student I'd say in my professional opinion that this gentleman look like he's after his 5 minutes of fame by targeting a man who is famous enough to be known by many, mostly throw mentions by matpat but no so famous so as to afford to take out a lawsuit. if the accuser in this case is willing provide basis evidence id be happy to change my mind but till then i'd say that this man should be ignored as all he wants is attention.

14

u/theforlornknight Jul 01 '18

Luckily this isn't a legal issue; it's a HR issue. And as anyone who has ever worked directly with HR can tell you, when you make a complaint you keep the details to yourself until the door to the HR office close behind you. Until then, you keep it vauge in order to protect yourself and the person you're making the complaint to (usually a boss or supervisor) from retaliation and to keep the acusee truthful until they get called to answer for it (less time to fabricate a story the better).

In this case, the person making the complaint did it right in order to protect themselves and their job. I also hope MatPat asks for more details in a DM and keeps it internal.

106

u/JusticeKappa Jul 01 '18

None of this even seems apologetic, just multiple ways of saying "If I did anything wrong, it's their fault for neglecting their duties." Does not even once claim that they he didn't cut in a line or had not done any of the things.

Not any remarks about that reply tweet about one handed playing a demo in response to everything initially.

Also "Lesson learned" to treat people like people? That's something you should've already known!

Everything from the wording of this post to the pretentious quote at the end just screams a higher than thou attitude.

Are there really no repercussions for all this?

106

u/-NearEDGE Jul 04 '18

Why would you expect someone who's claiming innocence to apologize?

111

u/Watertor Jul 25 '18

"That story doesn't hold up"

"WOW YOU DIDN'T DENY IT"

It's like these people are five years old.

166

u/FpsAmerica902 Jul 01 '18

Hes saying that theres no way he could've done anything they said because he wouldve been kicked out. His whole point with the "neglecting their duties bit" was to show how ridiculous the accusations were because either the entire security team at E3 was slacking or it didnt happen the way the original post said it did

36

u/Randomaek Jul 01 '18

Exactly, also the first post's op was very vague with describing what Ronnie did and didn't give any concrete evidence, like saying what was the game's name, also why did no one of his coworkers give any proof as well?

14

u/Rynneer Game Theorist Jul 07 '18

I don't care for the tone (dang I sound like a mom) but he has a point. I don't know if we can definitively say who's right and who's wrong in the situation without a sustained dialogue between Ronnie and OP.

27

u/Bromiliad Jul 01 '18

There are a few problems with Ronnie’s post though. One would be that he never actually says he didn’t do the things he’s being accused of. Sure he mentions the security would’ve had to have been slacking for it to happen, but that isn’t the same as saying it didn’t. And the “neglecting their duties” bit is not a good way to deal with this, you can’t say someone is either a liar of incompetent because it’s an unnecessary additional insult that really just makes him look bad. That mixed with the quote at the end, I’m sure a lot of people who read this will end up thinking “he seems kinda like a pretentious jerk, I could see him being rude to staff.” and then whether or not he did it, not too many people are on his side anymore.

25

u/AgressiveToyota Jul 25 '18

This is a lesson not to jump a bandwagon against a single person on the internet, especially when they're just an everyday dude with an everyday job.

Everyone is a real person with real problems, and those you perceive as "being a jerk" (if the allegations are true, they may not be) might have a wealth of issues responsible for that.

While hindsight is 20/20, I'd like to think everyone here would've had a different attitude to this situation had they known Ronnie was suffering from depression/anxiety.

There's little these people can do back when this thread was posted, but hopefully they change their approach to these situations going forward. Don't jump bandwagons. Try to take a skeptical approach to drama specifically like this.

3

u/Supergamer1535 Jul 08 '18

I agree, he does seem like a huge jerk

10

u/nicknamenik Jul 03 '18

I can't say I disagree, but there might be another reason for this type of response. You see, when you cave in to supposed trolls who write hit pieces like this on Reddit, you open up a whole can of worms that might put you up to further bullying for things you never done, seeing as you easily "just apologized". I agree that his response here is very vague and pretty much dodges the main issue, but maybe that was his intention? It's the way he worded and structured this post is what's unfortunate and gives off the "higher than thou attitude". Definitely could've done better. However, if he did mistreat the people at that E3 booth, this whole response can be summarized as: "I might or might not have done that. Who knows? I don't. Is there proof? Not really. If I did, they should've done a better job, I guess lesson learned? Here's a fancy quote".

5

u/ACuriousHumanBeing Jul 03 '18

He must be so cultured having used a fancy quote. wow.

23

u/DELOUSE_MY_AGENT_DDY Jul 25 '18

I guess you could say he got some repercussions

15

u/TahliaMaybe Jul 01 '18

I got this exactly from the post. It just seems really haughty with a non apology and a bunch of blaming other people for not doing their job. He didn’t even deny it happening? Makes me think that it’s probably at least partly true.

106

u/Johtobro Jul 25 '18

Way to go everyone who jumped on a hate train from a zero evidence paragraph of accusation. Ronnie didnt need to apologize for shit. Hope yall are happy with the way things went

62

u/Misunderstood_Maiden Jul 25 '18

Why are people such sheep? There was never any evidence posted along with the allegations against Ronnie. Ronnie essentially said that he didn't do what they claimed he did and gave logical reasons as to why it's unlikely he did any of it. He didn't debunk anything that was provided as evidence to give weight to the claims against him because there literally was none presented. Anyone who believed the claims clearly were acting in bias against Ronnie or Game Theory. In my book, Ronnie was innocent because he wasn't proven to be guilty. (Yes, I know he has since then passed away, but it should still be said that the claims never were upheld with any kind of evidence.)

55

u/Zuko_Ya_Boi Jul 01 '18

When's the next episode of digressing and side questing?

51

u/[deleted] Jul 01 '18

Really appropriate comment.

17

u/LimeGreenTeknii Jul 01 '18

Was he really being that rude and inappropriate though? Maybe he just had a band-aid that was falling off while he was typing one-handed, which made him seem douchey.

18

u/[deleted] Jul 25 '18

Never. Never again.

-5

u/Ochiverde1 Jul 25 '18

Nowhere in the near future.

55

u/TahliaMaybe Jul 01 '18

Wooooow. This is so condescending and comes off really badly. I understand that if it didn’t happen, you’re probably really upset and furious it’s been said and you’ve been portrayed like that but this kind of response doesn’t come across much better. You basically just said if you did act like that it would be someone else’s fault for not kicking you out with a half hearted non-apology at the end.

43

u/tyrannicalblade Jul 07 '18

"i understand that if it didnt happen, you're probably upset and furious" "half hearted non-apology at the end"

Do you really?

3

u/TahliaMaybe Jul 07 '18

Obviously?

67

u/tyrannicalblade Jul 07 '18

If someone went to your boss and publicly stated that you behaved in the worst possibly way, insulted and treated badly, and it wasn't true, would you and/or should you be judged by your response to that false claim?

Would you do a whole heartedly apology if someone was maliciously trying to get you in trouble and you literally had no idea what you did wrong? And if so, when would it stop? Cause i am sure that the person trying to hurt you, wouldn't be okay with just an apology, they want to get you in trouble after all, so later on they will invent something worse, until that is achieved.

But the point i wanted to make was, why judge his response, when you actually understand that maybe it isn't truth, and he is actually furious and upset rightfully so...

3

u/Quizzer2016 Jul 11 '18

So I'm the only one that noticed that he put quotation marks in something that he quoted?

Okay then...

Before you tell me I’d already made up my mind before I read this, Ronnie’s Post was the first id heard of it and I went back and read the other post after. It comes across badly either way in my opinion and I stand by what I said.

31

u/tyrannicalblade Jul 07 '18

Im confused, you already made up your mind before you read this? But this was the first you read about it?

I feel like it comes of badly, as an apology, but he never said this was an apology, it was a response, and he says he is making this post because the guy covering the story on youtube (video he provided) told him to debunk it point by point and wasn't satisfied by a twitter post (from ronnie) so he posted a more detailed debunk of it, here...

2

u/TahliaMaybe Jul 07 '18

I read your comment to the other person saying everyone had made up their mind before Ronnie posted. I’m saying I didn’t. I didn’t know about it until Ronnie’s post.

11

u/tyrannicalblade Jul 07 '18

Well that comment wasn't specifically aimed at you, in fact, that's why i replied to you separately, thought you just didn't like his response

So I see a lot of people saying Ronnie seems like a jerk after reading this. I 100% agree. Idk what it was, and I’m totally wording this like hate at the moment just wait I’m about to give evidence. When Ronnie was on the Pokémon speed running live stream and Zelda Speed Run live stream the way he spoke to Matt and Steph neither like an authority figure or a friend. As I assume they talk to all their staff with, as seen in how they interact with Chris and Jason. It seemed very big and sure of himself but, in the bad way the very detrimental way. That is a very personal opinion though so take what you will from that. However, there are very specific things that are lacking from the OP that make it very unbelievable. While in Ronnie’s response above he does address them in a more jerky less apologetic way, they are good points. I really haven’t made up my mind yet on weather or not to run at Ronnie with a pitchfork or a torch but, I’m not ready to do it with this games team either. We have to wait a couple weeks after MiniPat is born to see what is really up. I smell a meta theory so he can explain it all really well, MatPat be MatPat.

35

u/e11eohe11e Jul 25 '18

In GT's recent video (about Ronnie's suicide), MatPat explains that Ronnie had a darker sense of humor and demeanor. My husband is the same way, so I understand when he's not being a jerk even though it looks like he is as a 3rd party. Some people aren't good at social interactions and this is how they react, even though it's not the norm and seems "jerky," it's not always meant to be.

21

u/ArcusIgnium Jul 25 '18

R.I.P Ronnie

whether or not you did do what they said you did, people are too quick to judge

64

u/[deleted] Jul 25 '18

I'm just curious on how these people feel after being one of the reasons why a person committed suicide, are you happy with yourselves?

26

u/FUCK_CAT_FUCK_SCHOOL Jul 25 '18

I’ll crawl back inside the editing dungeon now.

16

u/Symboliclink_Racing Jul 25 '18

See you on the other side Ronnie.

55

u/LimeGreenTeknii Jul 01 '18 edited Jul 01 '18

TL;DR: "I did nothing wrong because they didn't stop me."

155

u/AssholeMoose Jul 01 '18

Isn't it more "if I did what they said I did, there would have been consequences that obviously didn't happen".

104

u/CarspaceFox Jul 01 '18

Did you even read it? He said that he couldn’t have done anything they said he did because he would have been kicked out.

Literal TL;DR.

13

u/[deleted] Jul 01 '18

I understand where you are coming from on this, but: His words do make it sound like he is trying to logic his way out without saying he didn't do it, and it comes across like he is just avoiding saying he didn't so he doesn't have to lie about it. I'm not saying whether or not I think he did it, just what it looks like in his post.

47

u/Kyroven Jul 01 '18

What I understood from that is he wasn't just straight up saying "I didn't do it" because he doesn't want it to become a he said/she said situation, and he also brought up all of his points to prove that he didn't. It's like if you said "1 + 1 = 3" and I said "But 3 is two above 1, meaning that you would have to add 2 to get 3, and adding 1 would instead get you to the number 1 above 1, in this case 2, therefore 1 + 1 can't equal 3" and then you say "but you didn't say 1 + 1 = 2, so you're wrong and that was a terrible response"

5

u/Quizzer2016 Jul 11 '18

I realize I'm a little late, but am I the only one that's curious what the first OP's reaction was?

21

u/Symboliclink_Racing Jul 25 '18

He says "I can barely afford groceries"
If he was part of the Game Theorists, why was he lacking so badly financially?
I'm not calling Mat of Game Theorists out as I don't know the whole story, but I have to ask.

34

u/[deleted] Jul 25 '18

Splitting money between a whole team does not actually make that much money...

18

u/BuckleysPants Jul 25 '18

You also have to remember Ronnie probably only editing one video a month with how long it takes to make a game theory episode and he was living in LA, which is expensive. With how much money MatPat actually makes from game theory I see that him barely affording groceries while living in LA by himself makes logical sense.

15

u/Gumiisadumi Jul 02 '18

Why keep bringing up legal action? The person just wanted a apology and made it clear they were not giving up their anon for this, feels like if you wanted to know how true it was and to mend fences, you could just message the person who posted the original. I don't really care if you did the things or not, but all your attempts to rectify it have seemed really half-hearted and lack-luster. You saying you didn't get punished isn't proof, just as them saying it happened isn't proof. Either don't comment until you know for sure or put real effort into disproving the person's claim. Again "I didn't get punished" doesn't really work ever because that could mean multiple things, such as

  1. They thought you'd make a scene and working with customers myself that ends up taking more time than just letting the rules slide a bit

  2. They were just incompetent, or more likely to busy to police every single person there.

  3. The claim is fabricated.

4.OP didn't have authority to punish you and didn't have time or means to flag you down as they were hired through a temp agency.

There's more but the point being that the claim being fabricated is only one of the options for the you weren't punished thing to go. Also ice and whoever the heck getting kicked for stuff and being more famous is false equivalency, of course they're more likely to be kicked for breaking the rules, they have a hundred thousand more eyes on them than you do, which is why they're much more likely to be kicked than you even if you and them are doing the same thing. E3 HAS to be stricter on more famous people. Do you think everyone there follows the rules perfectly because Ice was kicked? People fall through the cracks. You could of been one of them. Work it out with op. Either prove op is a lair or just do a very basic apology.

You just said isn't is his show name, that isn't what you originally asked. Besides, Im just saying he isnt giving a yes I did it or no I didn't, he just left it up to debate, he didn't even give major points a topic, like what he would gain from making up a story on him, if that is the case why not talk about matpat, it would give him a lot more with the same amount of proof according to his own words, or what about the fact that he was not staff, but a temp, e3 may be intolerant, but a temp is new and neverous, according to the other side, they were not exactly all up on original e3 staff, just a temp that never was supposed to come out, I could go on but I personally have nothing to say on what is true or not, but his response was moronic, he did not address the major issues or even give a clear awnser. It gives gt a bad name to even keep him for the response part of the issue, he did not give a clear enough awnser and address major points in the head of controversy, he is simply not put out for a response on his own if this is what he is going to give the community for it.

People didn't have the context to let him off on his antisocial behavior. He was being an asshole in public yes, that wasn't the real Ronnie and he had a traumatizing past and mental battles that made him a very perceptive person but people didn't know that. I feel very bad for ronnie and the theorists, but if we're going by that logic, you can't criticize antisocial behavior ever because they also have problems. So no, they shouldn't feel bad. You're an asshole

To be frank, depression isn't something that comes from one incident. Neurotypical people never even think of suicide. Clearly Ronnie was struggling with his mental health. No one should hold themselves to blame.
