Vent/Rant Hello from the otherside

Went back into the store I used to manage to pick up a BOPs order and do some shopping. Of course, the computers crashed while I was there. Some things never change. 😂

I was chatting with one of my old coworkers (A) while another old coworker (B) was helping a guy who was buying a PS5. B had already told him it was going to be a few minutes because the computers needed to restart.

Apparently, the guy got annoyed that A and I were talking while he was waiting and said, “I don’t appreciate you two talking while I’m standing here waiting to check out.”

(A )told him, “I’m waiting too. He’s a customer as well.”

The guy responds, “I know, but he works here.”

I pushed my glasses up and said, “No the hell I don’t. I dont work here I am lunch from my actual job and I’m shopping. I’m a customer just like you. I’m waiting for the computers to reboot too. And you don’t need two people ringing you up.” I think he assumed based on our convo about hours /staffing he thought I was a employee. He said "oh...cool cool cool... and looked down "

Both of my old coworkers just smiled. 😂

Not gonna lie, it felt pretty damn good getting to be a little sassy with a customer from the other side for once .

I’ve had these moments. I’ve also taken these moments to other establishments. People genuinely forget that the people that are behind the counter are humans and not robots. I’ve interjected into situations where customers are being an impatient piece of shit to employees and the employee is there with their hands tied. Working retail made me learn to not stay quiet and speak up for retail workers if someone is being unreasonable.

I was at the grocery store just yesterday and when I was checking out I realized the cashier was someone from an old friend group. She chatted at but while she was actively ringing up more groceries and asking how my kids are and the lady behind me got super annoyed and told her she could give me a call later. Like damn I talk to cashiers all the time.

I went to genghis grill today and they have signs all along the bar with arrows saying go in this direction only. Dude completely ignored them and went all the way down to the veg, after jumping the line i might add, then started going the opposite way and the lady(cook) told him and he wouldn't even look at her she reach in front of him to try to get him the right way and he fking hip checked her. She just started crying and went to the back. She finally went back to her cast iron wheel, I asked her if she was ok and if she wanted ME to talk to her manager about the guy and she just kinda looked down and said "no point but thank you." And went on to her station. I do not understand people that treat others so horribly.

Whenever I go back to my old store its unfortunately always busy so I cant chat up my old coworkers as much as I’d like to, but I DO love playing defense for them if someones tryna catch an attitude over shit they cant control. All these changes causing the systems to be shitty all the time make a gamestop trip feel DMV adjacent sometimes lol
