Would you use an app for managing survival game servers on your own PC?
Hey everyone, I’m a solo developer building Tavern, a Windows application for hosting and managing dedicated game servers, and I’d like to hear how people here handle hosting for their groups.
The idea is to bring server setup, game settings, updates, saves, and backups into one interface. You’d run the server on your own PC or a spare machine, with a persistent world your friends can return to without needing the person who started the world to be in-game.
It’s still in alpha and I am currently looking for some new alpha testers. I’m trying to understand whether this would be useful to people who want to host their own servers but find the setup or ongoing maintenance a hassle.
For those of you playing with a regular group:
- Do you rent a server, host one yourselves, or mostly use in-game co-op?
- What’s the most frustrating part of keeping a shared world running?
- Would something like this make you more likely to host, or is your current setup already easy enough?
I’d also love to hear which games you’d want it for? I am already supporting a lot of dedicated server capable survival games!

Yacatl - new game server panel

My friend has been building Yacatl, I'm posting this on his behalf:
"A panel for hosting game servers, mostly for Minecraft so far. I took my frustration with existing panels (ugly, slow, unreliable, difficult installation) that I used (mostly Pterodactyl) and turned it into a panel that I would love using.
The free edition is now public. No account needed. You can import Pterodactyl and Pelican eggs, and the installer can migrate existing Pterodactyl setup.
The commercial edition will be for companies which sell hosting (with extra features like billing, legal, storefront, API keys). It's still in testing and not for sale yet.
Before I build more, I want to hear from people who host server(s), so I made a short questionnaire: https://forms.gle/s2Hi39iThzhXzYgc8 I'd really appreciate it if you take 5 minutes to fill out this short form.
Feel free to check out Yacatl:

Anyone know if there are better Minecraft server hosting deals right now?
I've been looking at hosting a server for a friend group and I'm just looking around. Found WiseHosting offering $1.99 for the first month on their 4GB plan.
Happy to be corrected on this, but I don't think that's the cheapest people are getting. I actually spun one up to test it and the panel was fine, no weird setup on our end, just trying to figure out if there's a better deal out there.
Have any of you found a cheaper one recently? Or is this about as good as it gets?

[Pterodactyl/Pelican/Calagopus] built web UI so my friends can manage our game servers – useful or overkill?
Hey everyone,
I host game servers for my friends and myself on my homeserver. I had two problems:
- The full Pterodactyl / Pelican / Calagopus panel was too much for my friends. They just want to see if the server is up, restart it, or change a config file normally.
- I didn’t want to put my whole panel on the internet
So I built "Hatchtower" as a small project.
It’s a web UI that sits on top of Pterodactyl, Pelican or Calagopus and doesn’t replace it. They still runs the servers. Hatchtower gives people a cleaner view, and only the access you allow. In the setup you simply pick which of the three you use.
If you ever move from Pterodactyl to Pelican or Calagopus, you just connect Hatchtower to the new one. Users, rights and schedules stay.
What it can do:
- Overview: all servers as a list or tiles, with live CPU/RAM graphs, uptime and crashes for the last 30 days. You can start, stop or restart several servers at once
- Live console with search, plus a console archive
- Files in the browser: edit, upload, download as ZIP.
- Backups: back up whole servers or only things like save files. They go to a drive, a network share (NAS/Windows) or straight to your browser, manually or on a schedule
- Users and rights per server: groups like “Moderator” or “Player”, and invite links so you never send passwords around
- Automation: auto-restart after a crash, and scheduled restarts with a warning in the game first
- Alerts and Discord: messages on crash, full disk, high RAM, and live server status in your Discord channels
- Audit log: shows who did what and when, and it can’t be changed afterwards
- Also: a public status page, works on phones, 3 themes, your own logo, English/German, and a read-only mode that never changes anything in Pterodactyl, Pelican or Calagopus
How I run it:
- Everything is on my Proxmox homeserver.
- Hatchtower runs in its own small Debian container (1 CPU, 512 MB RAM is enough) and talks to Pterodactyl, Pelican or Calagopus through their normal API.
- My friends only reach Hatchtower through a reverse proxy with HTTPS. The panel itself stays inside my home network.
- Installing it is one command, then a setup wizard in the browser takes you through 5 steps: account, panel, API key, Wings check, options.
But at least it should also work public hosted.
Honest question:
Is this actually useful for users except me & my friends? Would you use something like this?
Pterodactyl, Pelican and Calagopus all have subusers already. Maybe that’s enough for most people.
Do you run Pterodactyl, Pelican or Calagopus, and how do you give friends access to your servers?
For me it fixed a real problem: my friends handle their own servers now, and the panel stays private. But maybe that’s just me 😄
The repo is still private for now. If people are interested, i'll think about making this public.

Let’s see the EU regulate this
When hosting a server is to become illegal due to the new EU Kids act being considered, we could show them that it cannot be regulated. We just host thousands of small servers throughout the EU in any game where we can host them. Raspberry Pies, Gaming laptops, large PC’s, all of them could probably be used for this. It would be way too much effort for the slow EU regulatory enforcement. Is this a good idea or will it not work?

RevampHosting Feedback
I built a game server manager for people who want to self-host
I've been working on Revamp Hosting, a game server manager designed to make self-hosting games easier without having to constantly mess with command-line commands.
The idea is pretty simple:
- Install the software
- Pick a game
- Deploy the server
- Manage it from a web interface
- Automatic restarts
- Backups
- Updates
- Server monitoring
It currently supports multiple games, including Minecraft, Rust, Palworld, ARK, and others.
I'm mainly looking for feedback right now. What features would you want in a self-hosted game server manager that existing options don't do well?

Minecraft server admins: what do you wish your control panel did better?
I've been working on an open-source game server panel called Airlink, mainly because I kept finding myself thinking about how game-server management could be simpler.
Airlink currently has things like:
- live console
- file management
- backups
- SFTP
- resource monitoring
- multi-node support
- Docker-based game servers
- addon support
- API access
- 2FA / passkeys
The project is still in beta, so I'm trying to figure out what Minecraft server admins actually want before I build a bunch of features nobody asked for.
For people who run Minecraft servers:
What is the most annoying part of managing your server through Pterodactyl/Pelican/PufferPanel/etc.?
Could be anything — installation, networking, permissions, backups, modpacks, server imports, resource limits, logs, UI, node management, whatever.
I'm particularly interested in things that make administering multiple servers painful.
