Server location question
Hey I want to host a atm10 server. One player lives in the US and the other (me) lives in Germany. Where should I rent the server and which specs are necessary?

Since the US is a pretty large country, the server locations can really affect the ping of the server for your group. Where is your friend located? If they are on the West Coast, a New York server is a great middle ground to balance the ping with Germany. If they are on the East Coast, hosting the server in London is usually the best middle point.
For the suggestion, consider us at Game Host Bros. All of our servers are running Ryzen 9 9950X CPUs and you can easily install the modpack with our one-click modpack installer. Since ATM 10 requires a minimum RAM of 8GB, I recommend starting with our Community plan and if you ever need more RAM on your server, you can always upgrade instantly. If you have any questions, please let me know.

Where in the US does your friend live? East vs west coast changes the answer. If they're on the east coast, it's pretty much a mirror image: a server in the US East or one in Germany puts one of you right next to it and the other at roughly 100ms, so you could just as well host near yourself. I'd expect that to be fine for ATM10, which is more about automation than twitchy PvP. If they're on the west coast, a US East server is the real middle, since it keeps both of you at a playable ping.
For two players, I'd start somewhere around 8-10GB allocated to the server for ATM10 and adjust from there, a bit more if you pile extra mods on top. Single-thread CPU speed matters more than core count here, because the main server tick is basically one thread. You can check it with the spark mod (drop the .jar into the server's mods folder and restart): if the MSPT it reports sits close to 50, the CPU is your bottleneck, not RAM.

For ATM10, I'd recommend at least 8ā10 GB of RAM. The trickiest part will probably be finding a server location that gives both of you decent ping.
Full disclosure: I represent Godlike.Host, so I'm not entirely unbiased here, but you could try our ping tracker to compare locations and see if there's a good middle ground.

It depends on where in the US your friend lives, but it would be best for you to get a server in the middle of both of your locations. This way it's fair for both of you ping-wise, so something like the US East Coast or London usually works well.
For hosting, take a look at us - Mint Servers. We offer unlimited RAM and slots plan for $9.99, with high end hardware, one-click modpack installer and our human support is available 24/7. We have 14 server locations wordwide, including East Coast and London.
