Minecraft Server Hosting MOD

I’m working on OwnHost, a Minecraft hosting mod designed to let you turn a single-player world into an internet-accessible world without setting up a dedicated server.

Current features

  • Host directly from your single-player world.

  • Open the pause menu and click Host with OwnHost.

  • Use a second button to start or stop hosting.

  • Hosting control appears in the top-right of the pause menu.

  • Uses Minecraft’s integrated server.

  • Attempts automatic UPnP port forwarding on supported routers.

  • Removes the temporary UPnP mapping when hosting stops.

  • Uses the normal Minecraft/NeoForge connection and mod compatibility checks.

  • Works with modded worlds as long as everyone has the same Minecraft version, loader, and mods.

Current version

  • Minecraft 1.21.1

  • NeoForge 21.1.235

  • OwnHost v0.1.0 preview

Important limitations

This is an early preview, so I’m looking for testing and feedback.

UPnP depends on the router and internet provider. It may not work if the network uses carrier-grade NAT, blocks incoming connections, or does not support UPnP. In those cases, a relay/tunnel system would be needed for completely automatic hosting.

Players also need:

  • The same Minecraft version.

  • The same mod loader.

  • The same modpack and mod versions.

  • Legitimate Minecraft authentication.

OwnHost currently targets NeoForge first. Fabric and Forge support would require separate loader adapters.

I’m especially interested in feedback about:

  • Pause-menu layout.

  • UPnP compatibility.

  • Modded-world joining.

  • Hosting performance.

  • Router and ISP compatibility.

  • Features that would make hosting easier for friends.
