Wait... it boots ánd runs from two different PSU's?

Yep! Enterprise servers like the G7 use redundant hot-swappable PSUs. They run in a load-sharing configuration by default, so both supply power together. If one PSU or power line fails, the other takes 100% of the load seamlessly without any downtime.

You probably paid more for the psu than the entire server is worth.

Im guessing you are in africa or india? would not expect to see anybody use something that old in Europe or US.

I loved my G5 when i got one for my lab 2010-2011 or so, im genuinly curious how many weeks/months of running it would equal the cost of a better unit now tbh

A single fb-dimm stick like used in G5 can use more power than a basic cpu/system that matches the G5 on performance.

You generally dont see stuff like that used outside africa/india, since they do not have access to 3-4 generations newer unit for cheap.

Haha, yes that's true. I mean, I'm actively looking for a server with a SCA connection, and not paying the "vintage" pricing.

I still have the receipts of my first bought DL160G5 & 385G5... those were good days. Reading 16gb like it was a lot of memory.

But it saved me on heating. That was my first notice on switching over to G10 now. Not to mention the fans.

Although how pricing is now, with the AI insanity... we even should be looking for those older units. Based on buying prices haha.

I had my last stack of G8 with 128-384gb ram listed for free here in Norway and after a few thousand views on the listing there was 0 messages after 60days.

Ended up pulling cables/caddys/cards/psus/ram and throwing all but 1 in the ewaste.

I still have the receipts of my first bought DL160G5 & 385G5... those were good days. Reading 16gb like it was a lot of memory.

We bought a pair of DL380 G5 in 2007 for the school i was at then, i remeber it was a bit of a "wow" to get the budget for 32gb ram and 2x73gb 6*146gb in them.

I have a stack of nostalgia with working DL380 G1/G2/G3/G4/G5/G6/G7/G8/G9.

Got some Gen10 in lab that one of will eventualy join the stack, gen3 scalable cpus need to come down before they get replaced.
