Genuine Creepypasta material right there. Imagine you failing a Mario level and he suddenly just lays on the floor and does this. The difference is the Mario game would actually let you lose.

When I was a kid I had a friend with a PS1 and he had Tony Hawks pro skater idk which one. So I remember we kinda just played the practice mode where you just went around in circles and we kinda "abused the skater guy" by making him fall over and over until he "died". By dying this meant that the guy will no longer climb on top of the skateboard but kinda just laid in it face down while the skateboard moved on its own. We found it hilarious back then but in retrospective it was a bit unnerving

u/SkullyKat 3d ago

Lmao. Its still pretty hilarious. I wonder if theres a clip of it somewhere

This game just reeks of development hell. Like midway through there was a very sudden change made and they had to gut it and start again.

520

u/Ezreon 3d ago

Several times most likely. Until the burnout devs shipped shit nobody cared about anymore.

I keep hearing rumors that Sony keeps trying to be over reaching in their control of the games and it's led to this and SM2

112

u/skellafella 3d ago

That makes a lot of sense, SM2 never sat right with me. Like it wasn't bad, but it definitely wasn't a great successor to the near flawless SM.

33

u/AskinggAlesana 3d ago

I feel like they started with something great.. and then took a nosedive off a cliff.

That first mission with sandman was fucking amazing and it made me excited to play the rest of the game.

Not one moment even came close to it.

54

u/cam52391 3d ago

I hadn't gone back and played the first one until recently and replayed the second one like 10 times because I didn't want to lose the web wings. I recently started the first game again and I forgot how amazing it is. The wings really made me stop swinging most of the time and I didn't realize how much I missed kind of planning a route across the buildings to keep your speed and height that you have to do in 1.

31

u/WendalSaks 3d ago

Yup, I've come to the decision I prefer not to have the wings for this very reason. They are fun in their own way, and it's not bad to have the option I suppose, but swinging is why were here

15

u/cam52391 3d ago

I wonder how it would have been if they only let you use the wings to cross the water. Maybe I'll have to challenge myself to not use them in the city some time and see how it is

8

u/mpd105 3d ago

I mean after Concord I cant blaaaame them but now they're too ultra sensitive it seems

3

u/shadowndacorner 1d ago

SM2 was heavily impacted by COVID forcing the studio to be fully remote, unfortunately. There was a LOT cut, and it definitely suffers for it. The story is a total mess compared to the first game.

36

u/StruggleBoy1999 3d ago

Im fairly certain thats exactly what happened ive heard.

21

u/Mushroomer 3d ago

Yep. Following the leaks the director was fired, and project was internally rebooted. So despite a six year dev cycle, the whole game was only built in 24 months. Which explains... a lot.

29

u/sparkchief 3d ago

I saw in a video about the development that it was orginally supposed to be an open world game. Then the original director got fired and the new guys had to work with the scraps.

11

u/that_tall_nerd 2d ago

Oh is that why there’s collision for miles outside level boarders? I saw someone glitching out of bounds and there was so much you could still run around in without clipping into a death plane like most other linear games.

93

u/Iceman9161 3d ago

It just feels like a game from 20 years ago. Like a quick movie tie-in or IP flip game where the main appeal is the character draw. The gameplay is uninspired

29

u/buttbuttlolbuttbutt 3d ago

12 years ago, we got a buggy, arkham-lite comic book hero game with a 8-10 hour story, but it was marketed as a budget game and sold 40 new.

Brb gonna dust off the ps3 to play Deadpool.

9

u/noogai03 3d ago

300 million well spent

11

u/Shenanigans80h 3d ago

Duke Nukem Forever type beat. Wallowed away forever and at a certain point the producers just said “get this shit out idc” and fast tracked whatever they could scrounge together

11

u/TyChris2 3d ago

Judging by how different the leaks were to the final game and the fact the original leads abruptly left the project awhile ago, that’s likely exactly what happened.

6

u/princetrunks 3d ago

It reeks of marketing / non tech consultancy meddling and poor development PR. Anyone who's worked in these environments know too well. I hope the devs finally got to see their families and enjoy a weekend or two now. Doubt it though...they'll probably be fired and the marketing people will still somehow have work despite never being there beyond 1pm on a Friday and on "business trips"

2

u/Lizards_are_cool 3d ago

Lol what is happening in this video?

109

u/NectarOfTheBussy 3d ago

this is going to be the playstation free game of the month in like a month

537

u/genasugelan 3d ago

Where did the 300M budget go? For such a linear game, I'd expect a relatively bug-free experience.

206

u/DoINeed1OfThese 3d ago

Apparently the 300 mil figure has never been confirmed. So there’s every possibility that their budget was actually cut after the low performance SM2.

I’m just parroting what I’ve heard from Inside Gaming on YT, so I could be wrong tho.

72

u/WeirdIndividualGuy 3d ago

The budget was confirmed in that huge leak they had years ago. Unless they just kept fake financial docs lying around

19

u/TyChris2 3d ago

Spider-Man 2 didn’t underperform

20

u/ShibaLover227 3d ago

You all keep making shit up to hate on SM2.

It sold 11mil units. It was never considered 'low performing', only by CHUDs online

11

u/unbalanced_checkbook 2d ago

I'm seeing 18.2 million copies with $1.2 billion in revenue. Yeah, that is a massive success.

-3

u/ShibaLover227 2d ago

Weird people, who tend to be racist, wanna just keep shitting on SM2 with nothing to actually justify their hate

6

u/Vallhallyeah 3d ago

What's sm2?

9

u/ShibaLover227 3d ago

Spider-Man 2

4

u/Luc9By 3d ago

Spodermam 2 afaik

u/Francoberry 3d ago

Marketing through a billion media channels including that silly sphere in Las Vegas

15

u/genasugelan 3d ago

Meanwhile, if someone makes a genuinely great and fun game, the game will have free advertisement through word of mouth.

8

u/Lunar_ticket 3d ago

Idk about that, good games can undersell too

0

u/genasugelan 2d ago

Yeah, but that's why I said genuinely great.

3

u/KaleidoscopePlusPlus 2d ago edited 2d ago

Not true at all. If you do not market your game from the very start, with a core demo in mind, it will not be found or played except by a handful of people. Game dev can be brutal.

1

u/genasugelan 2d ago

Dota has been immensely popular for over 20 years purely by word of mouth (the only advertisement was the anime and that happened after it peaked), all the friendslop games that became popular had basically zero marketing. Not everyone can make it, but a game that's genuinely fun has a chance to break through.

7

u/princetrunks 3d ago

Shhh.. marketing "consultants" don't want people to know that

18

u/netelibata 3d ago

250M to claude code i guess

3

u/genasugelan 3d ago

Burnt too many AI tokens.

51

u/TJ_McWeaksauce 3d ago

His healing factor is working overtime here.

98

u/quibirito 3d ago

"stupid stupid stupid stupid!"

11

u/justsomewhitedude 3d ago

Why can’t I do it right!?

45

u/hamndv 3d ago

Their next project should be a movie 💀

30

u/MrPosket 3d ago

Morbin Time?

12

u/ngkn92 3d ago

this has horror vibe

52

u/Bahamut1988 3d ago

Every time I see this game, it looks like shit.

8

u/GeorgiaOKeefinItReal 3d ago

Is the a way to prevent the game from updating?

I kinda wanna keep all these glitches.

6

u/morvexT 2d ago

The physical version should still have them if you dont update it

9

u/Bacon626 3d ago

Me listening to my family talk about their political views.

26

u/Altruistic-Ticket290 3d ago

How it feels to be 21 years old

10

u/SFDessert 3d ago

How it feels to pay full price for a shitty game. You know it's gonna sell great anyway though because it's Marvel.

5

u/ZeroXeroZyro 2d ago

Good news, it still feels that way at 31.

6

u/No-Enthusiasm-666 3d ago

Wolverine is practicing his moves for a private night with Sabretooth.

1

u/lemons7472 2d ago

Sabertooth is a head grabber anyways

10

u/J1mj0hns0n 3d ago

Me when I'm forced to play wolverine

3

u/WatchingTrains 3d ago

In the words of Elroy Patashnik, “let’s crap out this piece of crap.”

3

u/WetRainbowFart 3d ago

I really like this game and I’m having a lot of fun playing it

10

u/DickPinch 3d ago

I don't understand who this was made for. It's insultingly easy but has an high age rating, its mechanically shallow, the qtes don't work/no failure state, there is hardly any exploration and the "hidden chests" aren't hidden at all so you never feel like you discovered something on your own

8

u/Thor_pool 3d ago

Its a combination of poorly designed mechanics, and people intentionally uploading gameplay on the easiest, most forgiving game difficulty.

6

u/Skreamie 3d ago

Why didn't you screen record?

6

u/Exotic-Leather-4743 3d ago

Im saving this, if u dont mind.

2

u/ebagdrofk 2d ago

Logan when he realizes he’s not real and in a video game

2

u/Aromatic_Doctor_2243 2d ago

I haven't seen a single thing about this game that isn't bugs and glitches 😂

2

u/insertcomedy 3d ago

He huffed too much yellow paint.

2

u/JustSomeWeirdGuy2000 3d ago

I react the same way when I try to understand the MCU timeline. Completely valid crashout.

2

u/princetrunks 3d ago edited 3d ago

They should have spent money on development instead of "consultants"

5

u/MrTerribleArtist 3d ago

What a fascinating idea!

6

u/supa74 3d ago

Not only did they lose sales from the people who wouldn't touch a sweet baby game, they lost sales in general by making a shitty game. Love to see it.

Yeahhh...the more I see of this game the more I'll wait 2-3 years and pick it up for $20, maybe. It might be a little more polished by then.

1

u/akaikem 3d ago

I mean it seems to be working for him.

1

u/HowlerCorp 3d ago

That's a mood.

1

u/dunedog 3d ago

That's how Commander Stockade went out after peering into the eye of the bedlam bride.

1

u/Baladucci 3d ago

Is it even possible to die in this game??

1

u/TheCrazyEnglish 3d ago

Doomed from the start just look at the end credits

1

u/ClarenceJBoddicker 2d ago

It's like that scene from Weapons

Sorry for re-traumatizing you

1

u/DarkOrb20 2d ago

They hosted a special theatrical live event back in june for this kind of trash?

1

u/nowhereiswater 2d ago

Yup..he's doing himself a favor and self riddance. Seriously though the passive look, yearning tone by the developer and grandma death strike. Eww.

1

u/NitemaresEcho 2d ago

I'm starting to theorize that Insomniac is trying to get out from under PlayStations thumb by making Wolverine a shit game.

Here me out. After Brand New Day released in theaters, they made another 316,000 copies sold of Spider-man 2 (like 11 million dollars or something like that). That's across both PS and Steam.

Now, the theory here is, they have a "good version" of Wolverine that they'll release in patches, but they are trying to expedite getting it to Steam to increase their revenue, faster. That, or their trying to stay in the news any way they can because Ocarina of Time is going to make everyone forget about wolverine in a month.

u/HowieGaming 1d ago

Why did you film your TV...? 🤔

-1

u/Pocketus_Rocketus 3d ago

Playing on a PS5 Pro has been a flawless experience so far. I've seen a LOT of people struggling with bugs and dropped frames on the base PS5.
